    DCOIC instruction vs ODS/OCS

So all of the DCOs in my battalion and the other reserve Seabee units who mobilized to Iraq and Afghanistan and led missions outside the wire were not leading people into battle? Got it. They all stayed safe and sound in their camps while the real officers led people into battle. Roger that!

    DCOIC instruction vs ODS/OCS

I agree with you to a point. I am a non prior who drilled for about 4 months before attending DCOIC. Given the brevity of the program, I found that a lot of things that would have made no sense to me turned into valuable lessons because I had some background experience from my drills. I don't...

    DCOIC instruction vs ODS/OCS

Do you feel that DCOs ought to receive the same or similar training to those at ODS/OCS? A conversation has popped up on another forum about whether or not DCOs should be treated like Midshipman or Officer Candidates and instructed in a boot camp fashion or if they should be 'respected' for...

    The Officer Recruiter is in...

It depends on how busy it is. I went through MEPS in San Diego almost 2 years ago but I doubt that much has changed. I remember being there for lunch but leaving shortly after that. I would expect to leave anywhere from 1200-1400. Most of your day will be sitting and waiting.

Again, I went to DCOIC, but I will say that if you are showering at night there is plenty of time to shave your legs. Also, all women will be in the same position and no one is going to care if it has been a day or two since you touched up your shave job. :)

The closest Amtrak to Newport is Kingston, RI. It is still a good 20 miles away that you would need to take a cab. That said, I ALWAYS vote train when it is an option. :D

Uniforms! Holy Cow! These puppies are expensive! (Bonus: Tax writeoff gouge)

Well, if by on ships you mean with working uniforms then yes. Uniforms on ships are (were?) NWUs and coveralls. They reference the following reg for t-shirts. http://www.public.navy.mil/bupers-npc/support/uniforms/uniformregulations/uniformcomponents/Pages/3603_3.aspx I think they want crew...

Oh! I developed a strange love/addiction to shirt stays at DCOIC. I totally love the stirrup ones. The clip ones just confuse and make me nervous about them snapping up.

leave for OCS in 2 weeks and still no orders

I would still drive up the night before, spend the night in the lodge and then check in on Sunday morning. Get a good night of rest. They can't mess with you if you haven't checked in yet and by staying in the lodge, you won't have checked in.

Uniforms! Holy Cow! These puppies are expensive! (Bonus: Tax writeoff gouge)

When in doubt, refer to the regs! http://www.public.navy.mil/bupers-npc/support/uniforms/uniformregulations/uniformcomponents/Pages/3501_101.aspx You can wear either v- or crew neck. :) Be careful getting uniforms 'fitted'. During DCOIC one item that got mentioned (and was on the final exam!)...

Looking for a female perspective on OCS

I was not at OCS but in the building next door (Nimitz was off limits ;) ). The program was 2 weeks and on day 1 we were told to get any prescriptions together and go to medical with them. Our welcome letter/packing list also mentioned bringing at least enough for a week. Not being on anything...

I will echo Bullfrog. It isn't necessarily a full day but it could be depending on your definition of 'full day'. It also depends on how many people are there. I am not surprised. It would seriously help business if they could just pick a name and stick with it. (So says the woman who is working for a company on its 4th name in 8 years.) PenguinGuy and I lived in the apartments at Archstone Mission Valley. The apartments are newer (<10 years old) and in good shape. Maintenance does a great job of taking care of items. There is definitely a moveent to keep NAS Moffett alive in a historical sense. For those that don't know, there is a small museum there run by a bunch of retired aviators and crewmen. While I appreciate the grammar correction, I was writing on my cell phone and have issues with punctuation on that keyboard. It should have read "It is amazing. Having been written in the middle of WWII it does contain harsh language and is in no way, shape, or form PC." Good catch though. ;)
