Super Hornet PM addresses "whispering" campaign/rumors

"So who’s spreading these stories about the Super Hornet?" Its an ex RIO at my last unit. He's never liked the rhino. We always have to hear about the good ole days.

Why are my push ups hitting a brick wall?

Yeah, and I would lay off hitting the brick wall. That can only hurt your hands and make the pushups even harder.

The list seemed pretty harsh to me for VFA. Kinda surprising, since I know so many of peers opted out.

    Department Head Board

There are not many. My last squadron, of 50 instructors, we only had at any one time about 4 women instructors. Don't let that discourage you. As long as you pull your weight and have a sense of humor (ie. give guys some slack for the way we talk) any squadron will be happy to have you.

    Getting married during flight school

My wife and I started planning a June wedding (I was in advanced). My class advisor said not to do it, we can't guarantee leave and you should be real busy then. He advised me to wait until I was winged. June came and went and I only flew 3 times that whole month. :icon_rage We...

    Navy vs Air Force

My reasons for Navy over Air Force: 1) Pilot Slots- At the time I was looking at ROTCs, It was the height of the early 90's drawdown. The air force was making an infinitesimal amount of pilots, while with the navy you at least had a chance. 2) Majors- The Air Force was much more...

Public Perceptions of NA (Your Own Experiences)

I find it refreshing to talk to people about this profession. It reminds me how well it is regarded and how lucky I was to have done it. Once you get in a squadron, and you've been there a while, it becomes a job. You can easily get wrapped up in the day to day stuff and forget how hard you...

6 Navy Commanding Officers Sacked in 6 Weeks

Wow! What an ass. OTOH, some yellers are allright. I can think of sim instructors who took a special pleasure in yelling (think, Dr. Cox on Scrubs), but once you realized it wasn't personal, you learned a lot from them. You almost looked forward to seeing what the next tirade would be...

    Own a MIG-29 for $5M

I have often thought about buying a mig as an investment. Not flying it mind you, just parking it somewhere. In 1946 you could have bought a mustang for only $3000. Today they average near a million apiece. I may kick myself in 30 years that I didn't buy a mig for $50k. Or, maybe not.

    The Crisis in Naval Aviation

I just don't see the sky falling. At least not in tacair, and not for aging equipment. I do, however, have some other non-equipment concerns. If we really want to improve our fighting forces I know several very real and inexpensive concerns that should be addressed. 1) Airspace- We...

On our last move, at my wife's insistence, we sprang the $300 for full replacement insurance. We didn't have a single claim for the whole move. Maybe it was murphy's law, maybe we we would have been lucky anyway, or maybe the mover's were more careful because of the insurance. I don't know...

    Failed the USN Boot Camp?

I always hear people claim that and it is such BS. To do a 12:30 1 1/2 mi run you have to run at at 7.5mph pace. Not record breaking, but certainly faster than a jog. Unless of course you are 8' tall with an enormous stride.

    Lemoore Oceana or Miramar

Miramar would be hands down my top choice for an FRS tour. It's a great town and 101 is not as efficient, what takes 7 months at lemoore or oceana takes 11 months down there, so you'll have more time there. I've done tours in both oceana and lemoore. For a fleet tour, there are pluses and...

    C vs. E/F

Here is the deal: -In the eyes of Bupers, you are an FA-18 pilot. Although the C is a different platform from the E/F NATOPS wise, you can easily transition between tours. In other words, you can do like me, fly Charlies for your fleet tour, then teach at the E/F FRS, and be wide open for...

    State Taxes For Military

Exactly. You can go down to PSD and claim whatever state you want. The "Navy" doesn't care. However, that doesn't mean you are legally a resident of that state. For example, florida requires you to have a driver's licence or be registered for the vote in their state. In order to do that...
