    Department Head Board

I view it as an "aviation affirmative action" kind of deal. Once MB starts flying CODs (maybe), we'll put him charge of the busing plans.

    All things MV-22 Osprey

If no pax, you might get away w/ it in the COD (open the back...maybe). No such luck in the Hummer. Apparently it was tried once (flinging the bag out the CIC ditching hatch). It supposedly impacted one of the vert stabs with imaginable results. Since the AEC has a pressure bulkhead, it can...

Zeta liners and other helmet goodies

FYI, for the unwashed, the Zeta liners are made by the Oregon Aero guys; so they're of the same quality (hush kit gel earcups). You'll never go back to the eggshell.

Schedule Conflict- What are my Options?

Talk to your AFROTC freshman advisor now. There may be an alternative they can work out for you (sophomore classes this year, freshman classes next year, etc.). Ultimately it's going to be up to them, but the sooner you start working with them, the sooner they may be able to come up with a...

Limit of advance for qualification with PRK?

To answer your question, no. The Navy does not have a hierarchy when it comes to PRK (i.e. "Sorry, you blew your free spin to move up one rung on the ladder"). If you're medically qualified WRT vision, you're eligible to apply for that designator.

I'm thinking you'll be getting the same flight pay regardless of what you fly. Fly whatever they'll give you. Beats life as a shoe in any case. :D

    2nd choice for service selection?

Oceana, but I play an NFO at Chambers once or twice a week (I'm CAG staff these days). Little Creek's not a bad deal at all and a pretty nice base as far as Norfolk goes. Have a friend who had wanted TACRON but will end up as a boat staff O instead. Given an option TACRON would probably be my...

    Air Medal Society is formed

Yep, support points only for us; which is why you'll likely never see big numbers on our ribbons. Points aside, the operational flights (specifically in the E-2) typically require radio nets that most guys aren't cleared for, and these days they frequently involve interaction for the front...

    Pme

Signing up online w/ them as anything other than AF/AFR/ANG requires DEERS to show you as an O-4 already. Already tried as a select. Sister services apparently require you to already be wearing it acc. to their website. Only blue suits get the select privilege now.

    E-2s vs E-3s

Been there. Done it. More than once. A lot of it comes from the efficiency of all three controllers side by side, each capable of making a command-by-negation decision. There's no committee, no time-lag...one guy turns to the center seat and says "I need to do this with this guy in order...

    Radio Work

Think of it this way - they don't necessarily need the "time" as in "exactly what clock time is it right now" so much as a common reference time. It's more of a "we're all gonna cut the wire on 'three'." In this case it just turns out that the common time source used to put everyone on the...

Is it just me, or are the PRT standards a little imbalanced?

I was commissioned from my ROTC unit when I was 27 and could out-PRT most of my 18 y.o. mid classmates. Myth busted. Now, that said, a little closer to 40 now, I'll gladly take the extra time and breaks on the numbers; but if need required it, I could put the extra time into working out more...

    Orthokeratology?

Well, my guess would be not to bother with it. If you're within standards, you're within standards. If not, and you're dead set on pilot vice NFO, opt for the PRK. If you're good w/ NFO, then it's a non-issue. Whatever you choose, if you opt to pull a fast one then you're likely to get a...

    Duel or Dual Designator

Would stand to reason anyway. Operational flying (esp. combat) would nix their protected status as a medical type under Geneva Conventions restrictions. Test/eval, currency, flight hours for pay, etc. - ok. Suiting up to go downtown - not so ok. And have we really reached the point where we...

It's a bar. Over the years the clientèle has "adjusted" such that more kids are showing up there, but McGuire's has always remained the same. It's a bar...an adult establishment. Yeah, they serve food too, but the bottom line is that it's a bar. No Happy Meals, no free balloons, no insurance...

The heat and humidity at OCS

And it was a really nice Casio. As for the treadmill, if you're dead set on using it and if it has an inclination option, throw a couple of degrees on it to make it more difficult than normal. Standard for the Navy PRT if run on a treadmill is run on it with 1 deg incline to offset the...
