    That's my battle cry...

what major did you take in college?

Major isn't that important. I was doing BDCP before deciding to go USMC, and my major wasn't a big concern. Obviously, they might prefer an aerospace engineer with a 3.5 over an English Lit major with similar grades, but if you focus on creating a strong overall package you'll be fine. I...

Awesome advice... I'll definitely revisit some of the nutrition threads posted previously. Thanks-

    airsickness?

Can anyone shed some light on airsickness? I've met 2 Marines this weekend that attrited from Primary due to airsickness, and my curiosity has gotten the best of me. I've got substantial hours as a civilian pilot... should I expect to feel a big difference one I get into a 34? Do most of the...

We're just working Sunday, and they told us to expect to be finished by 4. I guess it depends on what faith you put in the "word"...

    VT-3 Track Selects

Maybe its the fact that the question is strangely similar to "what percentage get jets" that provokes such responses. Even with my limited Airwarriors and military experience, I can understand the frustration...

The Tomcat Legacy; 35+ years from Fleet Air Defender to Recce to Precision Strike

Awesome article! The Tomcat really sparked my interest in military aviation, and will be missed. Thanks for the post.

    Hornet Ball

Anyone know where to find any of the 'Hornet Ball' videos? The Tomcat posting got me interested. Also, there was some pretty awesome Cobra footage up not to long ago... I searched, but was unable to locate it. Any advice as to its location, or that of similar clips, would be great. Thanks.

    Who has to do IFS?

You won't have to do IFS. As for decreasing your API wait time... Good luck.
  10. scotty008

    pre-API school opportunities?

Good to go. The jealousy comment was more in jest than anything... Just trying to express the isolation felt being one of 3 air contracts in the platoon ( I love it, by the way). The **** I get on a daily basis is awesome. Luckilly we got to see this sweet video of the grunts' reaction to a...

    pre-API school opportunities?

Does anyone know if Lts are given the opportunity to go to any additional schools upon TBS completion and prior to reporting to API? I've got too many hours for IFS, and apparently the wait for Pensacola is still pretty substantial. Any chance of going to jump school or something along those...

    Zero Week and report date

My only advice is not to check in early. You'll get stuck in a motivated Mike Company billet that will transition into an initial Bravo Co billet in your case. As for getting squared away in Stafford County... what exactly would that entail? Check-in is pretty much a joke, as people gradually...

    PLC program, Age limit?

Don't know the PLC limit, but there is always OCC. We had a 36 year old in our Company, as well as some other folks over 30. The oldest PLC candidate in my platoon was maybe 22 (PLC combined). Good luck!

    IMPORTANT tbs question

I'm in the junior company at TBS...only a few guys got the "crappy wooden ones" mentioned previously. Bring it in case, but know that you'll probably get a high-speed OCS campstool issued. As I've learned in 8 weeks here, it never hurts to have extra ****... You're better off bringing some...

    Aviation Slots Available?

There isn't an "air ocs"... all potential Marines go through the same thing with either an air or a ground contract. As for no more air slots, the word at TBS is that they are plentiful (as mentioned above). You sound pretty competitive- just apply and you'll be good to go. Worst thing that...

    OCS & Seabag?

The only gear issue variations that I can recall are that priors recieved fewer sets of cammies and maybe boots. Some managed to game cash sales and got it all. As for the possibility of being charged at a later date, no clue. Honestly, I wouldnt worry about it. Bring what you think you...

    service transfer question...

I recently met someone who decided to cross over to the Marine Corps from the Navy after completing flight school. He says that he completed flight training with "Navy" jet scores, but was told by the Marines that he qualified for nothing. Already having signed his contract (apparently for the...

    OCS & Seabag?

The issued gear at OCS is different for priors than for guys completely new to the military. This included sea bags, apparently. Some priors got 'em, others were SOL. As for uniforms, cammies are the same for EVERYONE, and thats all you'll know for the bulk of your time at OCS.

    broke my collar bone

Broken my left clavicle multiple times. Don't rush into anything with that type of injury... Keep it immobilized in a sling and wear that damn backpack-looking brace (Yes, it sucks). I've had friends rush back into things and end up requiring surgery/pins, which could possibly disqualify you...

    Between OCS 191 and TBS

Being OCC, you will get to pick up with the next TBS class (as mentioned above). Everyone had the option of leave, and most elected to take it. You only rate a certain number of days at that point (6?), but can borrow enough to take off the bulk of the time until you pick up with TBS. Some...

    contracts

I got accepted to OCS 189 with a 240, but was especially strong in other areas (i.e. academics and leadership experience). They'll bust your ass at OCS in terms of PT...I graduated with a 285. Apparently, it is getting more competitive as time goes on. You most likely won't get far with under...

    10 week OCS

3 hours my ass...maybe during week one. Once you settle into the rythm, the sleep hours go up a lot. I probably averaged 6-7 after week 3. Just make sure to get all your **** marked and good to go early- Ass was mentioned, check out the shipping to juniors thread. It covers all and is...

    boot inserts

Like everyone says-go to a store that specializes in running. Places that come to mind are Roadrunner Sports and the medievil-themed 'Shoe Palace' in SoCal. I'm sure every city relatively close to established civilization has something similar. Insoles have made my limited boot-running...

no pilot experience...kill my chances of getting pilot MOS?

I'm noticing the emergence of a nicer, more caring Airwarriors. I think it stemmed from Schnuggapups "Bill and Ted" response (not his, specifically, but one of the posts in the thread). Times they are' a changin'.
  32. scotty008

    boot inserts

Super Feet...they changed my life. I know that Roadrunner Sports (in CA) sells them. They're also readily available via the internet, and can be cut down to fit properly. Order big.

    References

There is also a sweet little box area for comments...you can fit at least 5 sentences in there, though I think my ref's attatched letters... -my favorite was "ability to live in confined quarters'....
  34. scotty008

    References

Not mandatory, but OSOs seem to like it. You can do just as well with many other types of references. I got accepted OCC 189 air without a professor reccomendation. Good luck with the app!

    Shipping to OCS

Great information. Thanks for being so descriptive. Though I'm going OCC, I would imagine things are more or less the same. Keep it coming!

    Shin Splints

There is a book called The Runners Repair Manual that I found to be very helpful. It gives the main causes of shin splints and provides stretches and exercises to help prevent reocurrences. Also sheds some light on the "proper" way to run and the different injuries associated with different...

    ASTB waiver

Let the fun begin...You might want to bring some sunglasses with you for after the eye dialation, or risk getting stuck with a pair of those sweet old lady wrap-arounds. Good luck, and congrats on the waiver.

    Shin Splints

Check out the shins, legs, and more shins postings under UCMC OCS. There are many suggestions here that have been very helpful. You could also type shin splints into the search bar. Good luck.

    ASTB waiver

Are you past the point where you can retake it (ASTB)? You could bump that five up with some studying no problem.

    Legs, shins, and more legs...

Thank you for the constructive (?) reply. I think that the point of the initial question is geared more towards getting ready physically for OCS. Better to be in the best possible shape prior to getting there so you're able to perform at your max. Nobody ever stated that its supposed to be...

    PLC doctor approval

I was given the impression that a flight physical would be sufficient. Having gotten a MEPS physical prior to my AVMED physical (before chosing the Marine Corps), I think its safe to say that the latter is more intensive. My OSO only submitted the flight physical with my package, and as far as...

    Board for 190

According to my OSO, T-man has it right. The next OCS board will be in August for 190. California was tight this year, but 190 is looking much better, especially if you want to go air. They did pre-select, but only for a very small percentage of what they'll be taking for the October class...

Air Force Officer to Marine Aviator

A somewhat related question... My old roomate washed out of OCS 188 due to a knee injury sustained while running. What are the chances of him applying and being accepted for a Navy SNA position? Does this happen, or might they (the Navy) assume that since he couldnt handle Marine OCS that its...

    OSO question

    Just took 2nd ASTB

My roomate applied for the June OCS class (Navy), and was rejected with a 62 7/7/7. The other day, his recruiter called him and told him that there were 9 slots that just opened up. Could be a coincidence, but seems like a national thing. Good luck! -this was in the San Diego area

    OCS mileage

Can anyone give an approximate run mileage total for a typical week at OCS? Still battling shin splints despite shoes, stretching and an abundance of stolen 7-11 cups used to make ice blocks. I finally broke down and got a referral to a Sports Therapist- he wants me to get an estimate as to...
