    Pilot from SWO

I'm not a SWO, but a buddy of mine did the SWO to SNA thing. I did the Lat/Transfer thing to become an SNA. Go to this web page: http://buperscd.technology.navy.mil/bup_updt/508/milpers/1542-010.htm That is the instruction you can use. You don't have to wait for a board or anything. Your...

    JUNE API CLASS

unfUSN, I was a 1520 AMDO (Aviation Maintenance Duty Officer), and I was with VF-143. As for the wait, things have changed all of the suddne and nor there is a much shorter wait. Unfortunately they say the wait will go back to about 16 weeks this summer. Good time off for you. Enjoy it. Let me...

    Astronaut Possibilities?

The Tacamo is a jet so I would say yes but it's just my opinion. I suspect that they are only talking about tactical jets since they ae faster and more agile. I would call Bupers and ask them. If you go as a mission specialist it would not matter. Also right now it appears that if you had eye...

Brown boot question for those other NAs out there

I love it, The CO and XO, "Do as I say not as I do.." Can't blame the MCO, just doing a good job of sucking up, plus the Skipper and XO say I want this, you do it. Yeah, I guess with about 160 total personnel needing boots that is a little step. The redwings are really expensive, but that are...

Selected For NFO, but want more info

It is possible to cross over but very rare. Only a few people per year if any and it is up to the needs of the navy. At least in Tomcats the RIO (NFO) does quite a lot of the work. From running the radar to targeting bombing targets with a lantirn pod, to radio calls to computer and systems...

    Tomcat Vs. Super Hornet

Gouge from an aviation maintenance duty office who just left an F-14B squadron to start flight school. The tomcat is going away for the following reasons: Time and money, it takes too many man-hours and cost to much to take care of. Second the phoenix program has gone away at least that was the...

Brown boot question for those other NAs out there

I know most of the east coast fighter and strike fighter guys have the Redwing boots that are illegal but look really nice. If your gonna go, go in style. If that is the belleville boot then you are gonna have a problem getting them. Our squadron looked briefly as well but everyone wanted the...

The Great Flight Jacket Thread (wearing/buying Leather, NOMEX, WEP jackets/patches)

Aviators and maintenance personnel wear the green nomex jacket the most, atleast on the navy side of the house. Why get your nice leather jacket all dirty around an aircraft leaking hydraulic fluid and fuel. Plus leather is not a fire retardent material.

The Great Flight Jacket Thread (wearing/buying Leather, NOMEX, WEP jackets/patches)

That is the Public Affairs Officer. He or she is usually in charge of all the geedunk (patches and stuff) the squadron sells. They are way down the list for Superhornets if they even get them. Eventually all hornet squadrons will be Superhornet or JSF suqadrons. All the Tomcat squadrons have to...

Earning an MBA while in flight program

JT- As for getting you MBA while in the training command forget about it. Flight training is the most important thing. You won't have time for much else. Once you get to your first tour squadron there is some time. Out on the boat there is much more time and they offer classes, but it is up to...

1520s Who they are and what they do

Probably should tell you a little as to what they do in a squadron. They usually handle the supply (Material Control Officer-MCO) and administrative matters (Assistant Maintenance Officer-AMO) pertaining to a squadron. The also can perform as a Det Maintenance Officer (DetMO), as the...

1520s Who they are and what they do

For those of you who are going to be 1520s (AMDOs -Aviation Maintenance Duty Officer) or just want to now a little more about the 1520 community, I was one for three year with a Navy Fighter Squadron. I would be happy to answer any and all question anyone might have. please feel free to email me...

The Great Flight Jacket Thread (wearing/buying Leather, NOMEX, WEP jackets/patches)

Bushmaster- You are looking for the Nighthawks patch. They are out of NAS Oceana in Virginia Beach VA. I would go directly to the Squadron. It helps them out and it is authentic. Plus it may be a little cheaper. Try calling this number and ask for their PAO (757)-433-9553.

All you want to know about being a "chop" (Ask your STuPId Supply questions here)

To clarify Things and piggyback ENS Panye's Lat/Transfer/Redesignation answer: Lateral transfer is the process of going from Staff Corp or Restricted Line (As I was) to Unrestricted Line. The reverse is also true. Redesignation is the change in designator. I was a 1525 and now I am a 1395...

    I am a 4yr College grad & I want to fly

Ericny1- Mind you this is from 4 yrs ago when I applied and got in, but I would suspect it is still the same. Go see an officer recruiter and tell him what you want to do. Take the tests and see what the service has to offer. You can put down your three choices and see what you get. If you get...

    Waiting period for API

Fate- The 15 +- weeks is after you check-in to flight managment and go through medical. You have to get an up chit from NOMI here in Pcola. After that you have to take an in PFA and swim test. Then you sit in the A-pool. While in the A-pool you get to take BOLTC (Basic Officer Leadership...

    JUNE API CLASS

Hey, congrats on the lat transfer. I also got a lat transfer to pilot on the last board. You are gonna be in Pcola for a while. We are somewhat backed up down here. The NFO pipeline is moving a little faster than the pilot pipeline. But you still have a wait. I have been here 5 weeks and it...

    Waiting period for API

Clarification: The is a 15 week wait just to start API. Not primary. Hopefully it will start to move a little faster as we get towards summer.

    Waiting period for API

It changes about every week. Right now Whiting field is about a 15 week wait. As for corpus, all I know is that they are not taking anyone right now, but that can change. The wait was about 10 to 12 weeks. Vance and moody are faster but then you are training with the AF. NFOs are getting into...
