    MIA A4sForever?

Sad, but true. If anyone deserves a ride in the backseat of a hornet then it's the guys who have been turning wrenches on the things for the last 4+ years.

hahaha that's ok...I did too. I was like, "You need a waiver for that?"....

    Question for pilots

Dude, keep calling until they answer the phone and, if you have to, drive up there and talk to them in person. Go ahead and fill out as much paperwork as you can and try to be the guy that shows up on their door step willing to do whatever it takes. That will go A LONG way with recruiters/OSOs...

Do I Have what it takes for NROTC? I'm willing to give my all.

No problem man. I've seen numerous guys (even OCS complete Marine 2nd Lt selects) that were in amazing shape or ridiculously smart that thought about and/or decided to turn down their commission or get out of ROTC for various reasons. Talking to a friend right now who is in that boat because of...

Do I Have what it takes for NROTC? I'm willing to give my all.

Just a hint: Those "what are my chances" questions usually dont go over well here. No one knows. You don't need to give us your resume like that. Save that for you application and selection packages. Because here's the thing, I was a high school band nerd who had never lifted weights or ran...

Did you talk to the guy flying it? He was an exchange guy teaching with the Canadian RAG or something like that.

    Flight Hours Toward Pilot Slot

Yeah, it's like 3 points or something gay. And yes, trying to assign a points system to everything is gay.

    Flight Hours Toward Pilot Slot

Not saying its true. Just saying I heard it somewhere. Doing it the "Navy" way really isn't that big of a deal. Just read the books and do what they say. It really is that simple.

    Flight Hours Toward Pilot Slot

Somewhere along the line, they told us 100hrs was about ideal for entering flight school. No real bad habit patterns have developed yet, but enough stick time that you know what's up. Makes sense to me I guess. With that said, plenty of guys do it with 15hrs of IFS under their belt and do great...

Advantages and Disadvantages of Different Aircraft

Grades + needs of the Navy/AF. Personal preference plays a relatively small part and if the first two aren't in order then it isnt gonna happen. I was in your same boat when I was applying and the best advice I can give you is to ask the more important questions: "What's it like getting paid to...

    Pre-OCS PRT suspended?

Not doing 2 pushups is bad...real bad. Like retarded bad. As in: "Go home and try again" bad. 40 is an easy day at OCS. I think we usually did 4o pushups before we even left the house for PT in the mornings. Those 0500 Pre-PT beatings are special. They smoke you inside and then they take you...

    Look what followed me home

Saw them at Eglin AFB down here and they looked on par, if not better, with half the other stuff in the case. Might have ride over this weekend and pick up one for myself.

    Look what followed me home

I dig it. I've been checking out the Rock Island Armory 1911's for a fun shooter. They seem almost too good to be true for the price.

    T-6B NATOPS

Not really. T6Bs are pretty damn fun ;). Did my aerobatic solo earlier this week. 8 barrel rolls, 4 loops, Cuban 8 and 4-5 wingovers. Good times-a-plenty to be had.

Commissary - Love it or Leave it.

They will price match but it has to be another store with the item in stock. Kind of a pain in the ass to deal on smaller items. It's worth the tax advantage to price match on bigger items like computers, cell phones, tvs, etc... Again, I break out the barcode scanner and see what I can find.

Commissary - Love it or Leave it.

The NEX has some extremely good deals on a few things. I use the Bar Code Scanner app on my phone to check prices before I buy. Got some great deals that way, but not everything in there is cheaper...actually most isn't.

Navy Working Uniform Type II and III - finally something sailors can wear....

Logical? I think NOT. We could merge this thread with the flightsuits thread. After all, these are the same guys that are making our flight suit regs too.
  23. J

Navy Working Uniform Type II and III - finally something sailors can wear....

Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy (SS/SW) Rick West has said the restriction on desert cammies won’t be a problem because “the majority of our folks don’t need the [desert uniform], even in a desert environment, because most of our sailors don’t go outside the wire.” Ok, MCPON...what...

Getting my flight slot back after NPQ

Unfortunately this happens A LOT at OCS. Flight physicals up there are kind of a joke....well, they would be if it didn't fuck your life up. I was almost NPQ'd from pilot when my vision is just fine. 3 days of flourescent lights and 3 hours/night of sleep will fuck up anyone's vision. With that...

    Marine flight suit regulations?

This sounds too good to be true. Besides, that sounds like a brief and appropriate stop to me.

Anwar Al-Awlaki smoked! Yee Haw !!

This is good news. Him being an American makes it that much sweeter. Got a traitor and a terrorist in one hit.
  27. J

    Marine flight suit regulations?

Doesnt the reg say something like, "stops of convenience not to exceed 10-15 minutes?" I'd say that leaves a good bit of room for interpretation. As far as I'm concerned, if they can wear those atrocious NWUs out in town then flight suits should be fair game.

    sTUPID qUESTIONS aBOUT ocs

Dont bring brasso. You don't need it. Painters tape is for marking/stamping stuff. Goo Gone is for getting price tags and crap off of inspection itesm. My earlier post pretty much covers what you need.

    Visitors and Holidays at OCS

Tell me about it...those last 3-4 days of OCS were MONEY!! Eating at the Oclub, hanging with the fam, sleeping until 7am :D, and going off base for dinner. Pretty sweet.
  32. J

    T-6B NATOPS

That CRM probably consisted of "It's doing what?...oh shit...". Definitely not a fun position to be in when you realize the controls just broke. I'm sure it does. T-6 is a nice airplane and definitely fast when you want it to go. I wont lie, it's nice doing 240 on course rules on the way back...

    Visitors and Holidays at OCS

Cell phones. 'nuff said. Candio-phase was good stuff. Damn near enjoyable.
  34. J

    T-6B NATOPS

Good advice. The FTIs and NATOPs are written pretty well. Between studying and chair flying and hitting the sims, you can get this stuff down pretty well. The Sim instructors are there to help as well. Show up knowing your stuff and they'll help you out as much as they can.

    NFO To Pilot Transition Question

NFOs have a sweet deal down here in PCola. NASP is pretty damn sweet and living in Perdido Key in a condo aint half bad either. Beats the hell outta Milton, FL.

    T-6B NATOPS

T6A/Bs are downed right now for a control malfunction that happened when a T-6A entered a spin and one cockpit lost all elevator authority and the other lost all aileron authority. Sooo...they're downing all of them until they get them all inspected which is proly gonna require pulling out all...

Vision correctable to 20/20 but not good enough for naval aviation?

I did have an enhancement but the one eye was already within limits and the doctors didn't want to mess with it. I had eye surgery 3 times total due to the complications (corneal haze developed after the first surgery).

What was your work experience prior to applying to OCS?

I flipped steaks and burgers and sold guitars and musical equipment from the age of 15 to 26. Had 2-3 jobs at any given time and got a degree in Electrical Engineering.
  40. J

    Heads up

Or just have someone actually teach a class on the stuff. Our T-6B CAIs were utterly painful when it came to the ECS system and the Avionics/HUD stuff. We hadn't even seen the inside of the airplane and the CAIs were going through how to program an ILS into the FMS system. Kinda stupid at that...

    The basics of API

Go hang out at the bar in there and the tour guides will come in there to eat and those guys have some cool stories to tell. I heard some wild stories and history just by going there and having lunch. Kinda wish the actual O'club was more like that...probably should be more like that.
  42. J

    The basics of API

This certainly seems accurate. The NASP O'club is kind of a joke. Food is mediocre at best and choices are pretty limited. Our API parties there were lacking to say the least. Sadly, the museum restaurant runs circles around the NASP O'club in the food and culture department.
  43. J

    Heads up

Book issue should have the T6 cockpit posters. Dont know why they would be out. Those posters are kinda pointless (for me anyways). Get in the static trainers in the sim building and run through your checklists everyday and try to understand the flow. As far as the T6 goes... -Know your CRS...

Marine 2ndLt dies during API water survival

I think they check for this pretty commonly now. I had to go with 3 other guys to have a Echo Cardio-Gram (?) done at some specialist to make sure I didn't have it. Wasn't the first I had heard of people being double checked for that sort of thing before they'd clear their flight physicals.
  46. J

Vision correctable to 20/20 but not good enough for naval aviation?

Yeah, they were a little trouble at OCS. Eyes were all tweaked out from 0 sleep.
  47. J

Vision correctable to 20/20 but not good enough for naval aviation?

It turned out ok. I had some complications. My left eye is 20/15 on a good day and my right still has some astigmatism so it's like 20/35 ish. And yes, it's been about 3 years since the first surgery.
  48. J

Vision correctable to 20/20 but not good enough for naval aviation?

Pretty sure I had wavefront PRK. Cant really remember.
