This time frame is about right. Same sort of thing for me.

Updated list of things to bring?

starching is allowed by some class teams. It doesn't matter what you bring your crap in. Either way it's going to end up in the lucky bag room with everyone elses stuff. A normal suitcase/bag will probably be better than a seabag because all those bags in the lucky bag room end up getting...

    USS Michael Murphy DDG-112 Christened

For the sake of the Navy and our heritage...let's hope not. Id hope they'd at least have the decency to google the ship they're going on.

Updated list of things to bring?

Yes. MEPS physical is all you need. You'll get another physical on day 2 or 3 of OCS.

    New PRT?

    A standing long jump? WTF?
  6. J

Updated list of things to bring?

Have everything in your lucky bag and bring it in on Day 1. What's not allowed on day 1 will be stowed in the lucky bag room for later. Do NOT leave stuff in your car that you will want to have access to later. POV are not guaranteed at all.

Updated list of things to bring?

Laundry is done whenever you can find time for it..which isn't very often. There are washers/dryers in Nimitz Hall, but at least half of them are broken or disfunctional in one way or another. There is no guarantee when you'll get a chance to wash clothes so take plenty of extra undies.
  8. J

Updated list of things to bring?

Yes, but Just bring a 3 or 4 pack of good white t-shirts. The issued ones suck. Just a tip: buy them a size smaller than you usually wear so they don't "bacon neck" on you.

Updated list of things to bring?

Your OCS success starter's kit: (from a previous thread I replied to) I'm starting Candi-O when I go back after Christmas and a few things that have been clutch for me were: 1) Spray Starch: Don't bring that sta-flo shit, just bring 2 or 3 bottles of spray starch and share with the company...

I use the ankle pockets because of this. Keys banging against my knee are no good.

Navy Working Uniform Now Authorized Off Base

Who cares what color shirt you wear as long as it's squadron colors? I can understand the nametag thing, but the shirt? Why does Big Navy have so many people sitting around that they actually have time to sit around and complain about flight suits being worn out in town because T-shirts don't...

    pre-OCS conditioning

Dont just practice for numbers. Practice the pushups slowly (UP...DOWN...UP....DOWN...etc..). That's how they're done during beatings and it will inevitably make your numbers go up in the long run.

Air France 447 crash.....possibly found after 2 years

"At a spot no farther than six miles north of the last known location of Air France Flight 447..." 6 Miles North of it's last known location and it took 2 years to find the wreckage? Seems like the original search would've covered that relatively small area pretty well.

Length of time to get into OCS

It's probably worth noting that you're BDCP and haven't graduated yet.
  21. J

Length of time to get into OCS

Anywhere from a few months to over a year. Having your stuff (LORs, Driving Record, etc...) together before you visit him will go a long way towards speeding that process up. Mine took about a year. I visited him in November 2009 and I was in class 05-11 on Oct 28th, 2010.

The Eyes have it - All things Vision-related

That doesnt sound like a horrible Rx. 20/20 just means that you can read the letters off the chart. The prescription may just be to make your eyes perfect at near/far distances or so on. Ask the optometrist what the numbers are (SPH, CYL) and what they mean. He/She will explain it better than we...

Ironically, I think they did it faster with slide rules back then than we do it with all the computers now.

    LT Finn, MOH Recipient

It's a shame to see our WW2 veterans dying. I hope I can meet a few more of them and hear some more stories before it's all said and done with those guys. It's an honor every time I've had the pleasure of sitting down and talk to them and hearing their stories.

    NAS Pensacola

I got here on Feb 4th...classing up on Monday. They're pushing us into API fast right now. Some guys barely had 2 weeks after getting here. Those of us that dont have to do IFS are getting classed up ASAP.

Just to echo another thread. LASIK is now an option as well as PRK for civilian applicants. There is a thread here about the recent change in policy.

I think it's around 600$ if it's the same thing I'm thinking about.

    OCS Chow Hall Procedures

Nope. I agree with the second part of what you said. The rule now is to use a "command voice" which is a bit subjective.

What to bring when you check in

Yeah that'll be enough. The boot socks they sell at the uniform shop are terrible. The Fox-Rivers will save your feet.
  35. J

What to bring when you check in

Hanes ComfortSoft are pretty nice too if you can find them on sale. The T-shirts they issue at OCS are pretty much made out of kleenex or something. Worst white T-shirts I've ever worn.
  36. J

What to bring when you check in

Just know that POV runs aren't a guaranteed thing so make sure you have everything you might need in that lucky bag.

If you're checking in on 20FEB11 then you won't do the ropes course. My class had damn near perfect weather and we didn't get to do it. The wind/weather requirements are so strenuous that most classes will never get to do it and it'll be so cold in FEB/MAR for you to be outside for very long...

    OCS Chow Hall Procedures

Sometimes it's a 1. Other times, it's a 10. You'll eat lots of potatoes (in various forms) and rice. Overall, the chow is pretty good and it gets a lot better once you can start getting peanut butter and yogurt.

Sometimes you just can't help it. My D.I. says some things are just F-ing funny and he knows it. Just do your best to choke back the giggles and don't be the one to get labeled "Mr. Chuckles" or something. This is very true. Just finished up week 8 and I have stories...

    OCS Chow Hall Procedures

My class didn't get to do it. I didn't really care but some of the OCs were bummed about it. I'm in 05-11 BTW. We start Candi-O when we go back after Christmas. This much is true. INDOC week will suck, be able to run something better than just a good-low (or whatever the minimum crap is) on...

1,001 questions about the ASTB (post your scores & ask your questions here!)

  45. J

Yeah pretty much. Your class will design/order shirts and everyone gets a nickname. Usually it's something pretty funny.

    Touchie? NO...a little ridiculous? Yes.
  47. J

    Lawful Orders

Dude..WTF...is this for real? NCOs or COs usually don't get to that level because they're idiots or retards. Yes, some of them will have their quirks like we all do. Worrying about shit like this is 'nuking it' at it's finest. Take a deep breath and relax a little. There will be BS along the way...

yeah, Math and Reading problems are very similar between the two.
  50. J

1,001 questions about the ASTB (post your scores & ask your questions here!)

You shouldn't need a calculator for the ASTB. It's not multi-variable calculus, it's multiplying and dividing a couple numbers. The ARCO book should be enough studying material. Use the AFOQT sections as well to study with. They have similar problems.
