CrossFit is too general for OCS prep. I would do a subset of it that is more focused on bodyweight movements and less on Olympic and power lifting. Running is always good, though.
Get a marketable degree in something you don't completely suck at or hate. Find a healthy medium between enjoyment and utility.
I got a degree in Computer Science and almost didn't commission due to a shoulder injury. Had I not commissioned, I would have still had a wealth of opportunity for...
PLC guys will have a PEBD of the first time they attended OCS, provided they do not accept $ through the Marine Corps Tuition Assistance Program (MCTAP).
I've got a lot of friends / former co-workers over at Amazon and a few of them were issued beepers. My comment was in jest though...seems like a great company to work for if you love what you're doing.
FYI, there's only a 3-month wait for a waiver if your myopia is -6.00 or better. This wasn't abundantly clear to my OSO and I when initially submitting the waiver.
There's weekend liberty in PLC from week 4 on. Several billets to be filled during libo, however: firewatch, parking lot watch, COG, SOG, etc. There was also a rotating 'duty platoon' that had even more billets to fill.
Here is some good commentary as well as a simulation of the mishap. Pilot was indeed a Huey pilot during Vietnam. Commentary starts around 5:20.

Is A-pool basically the same for Marines? I hear all kinds of shenanigans from the Navy studs on here and am curious if this is something for devildogs to look forward to as well.
Slight resurrection. I got my PPL when I was 17 years old and have used it maybe five times since then. Since I'll be exempt from IFS, would it be worthwhile for me to bust out the Jeppesen book and brush up on some of that knowledge before API?
All of those things and more. There's nothing to do there; the people are generally sour and unwelcoming; lots of drugs and lots of low income housing; I've never heard anybody use night life and Everett in the same sentence. My family and I call it Everot.
If you're not into the bar scene, I...
You can't really go wrong in the booming metropolis that is Everett, Washington (I grew up there).
/sarcasm
My only advice would be to steer clear of Everett altogether and check out Mukilteo or Mill Creek instead.
Take it with a grain of salt, but everyone I know who has gotten selected for OCC in the last year has had a 290 or better PFT. Strive for a 300. (20/100/18:00).
Mini OCS is a weekend of OCS-like conditions complete with Sergeant Instructors, a PFT, humps, and usually an LRC. It's meant to give candidates a taste of OCS.
Actually, I saw that grammar and just assumed you were a moron.
Yes, you can decline your commission. If you took money from the Marine Corps through MCTAP or MCFAP, you better believe they're gonna want it back, though.
I'll be at O1 >5 when I go in either December or March. Went to PLC Jr's in '08 and contracted in '07 (freshman year). Unfortunately, O-1 pay stays static past 3 years.
What do you all make of "Millennium Challenge 2002"?

I have seen a few interneters argue that this is how a naval engagement with Iran might actually go down.
To me it sounds like it was just a poorly designed war game and that its...
