    August 08 Boards

Just be warned that if you do the PRT right after MEPS that your scores will go down because you will be exhausted. All that matters though is that you pass.

Lola, Not necessarily. That is how it worked out for me is where I went to MEPS in the morning then went to my recruiters office to do the PRT. They are two separate things; the PRT does not occur at MEPS, but rather with you recruiter.

    Funny Civil Air Patrol Pictures

Jeff, As a current member, I will echo what has been said above. The cadet program is a great program to get into if you are interested in joining the services and flying. You can get some flight time fairly cheap in nice Cessna 172s and earn pilot ratings in them as well. You will find that...

I flew my first Solo today!

On my second solo cross country I got lost right on top of the Mansfield VOR. What a dumbass I was back then, but it is a good thing that we learn from our mistakes.

    Funny Civil Air Patrol Pictures

Some are worthwhile, but most of the ribbons don't mean anything. I think it is a joke to see some 15 year old kid running around with a stack of ribbons that make him look like a field grade general.

Ahh yes, the AF Morale Patch. Seems to me that this great tradition has passed down through to CAP.

    Funny Civil Air Patrol Pictures

I had a guest speaker who was in a POW camp during WWII talk to my squadron. He talked about life in a POW camp, the rations, digging the tunnels, etc... There actually was a cadet who asked verbatim "Did the Germans make you dig the tunnels?" They like to think they are commissioned. But...

    Funny Civil Air Patrol Pictures

Classic CAP, acting like they are doing something that is awe-inspiring important. Sometimes I just laugh when I see this crap happening, then sometimes I really have to restrict myself from going on a tirade. "I know they are not commissioned officers.....but do THEY know they are not...

I guess a good question to ask is do you want to stay in an IT career field upon graduation, or do something else? Some people have majors in music and end up wanting to fly, etc...

    Funny Civil Air Patrol Pictures

There are definitely more fatties in CAP than Neidermeyers nowadays as we have taken good strides to rid ourselves of the yelling mindset (at least in Ohio). The damn problem is that our PT requirements are not stringent enough; and anyone over 21 does not have a PT requirement, they just have...

    Funny Civil Air Patrol Pictures

A picture I found through google. ^^^I do have to agree w/ stearman, as much as I like to mock CAP (and I am even a member), it is a good program. One of the best events for me in CAP was my first orientation flight in a cessna. I loved flying so much that I got a part time job just to pay...

I think the G-suit is used in CAP to keep our senior members fat guts tucked in tight. Cut the poor C/Capt some slack, at least his boots are shiny:rolleyes:

    Funny Civil Air Patrol Pictures

God I have way too many of these. One of the pics is Taz, my squadrons mascot, getting a little play from another mascot that I stole; classic propaganda. Now that I think about it and look at these pics, I'm glad I'm not one of "them."

    August 08 Boards

you won't make august. the package must be in to them by the end of the month preceding the next; so for the august board the package must be in by tomorrow. BTW, most boards meet on the 15th of the month, though there are some that meet on the 30th.

    Any More Advice?

At this point, there is not much more you can do to improve your package. A good motivational statement will help. It looks to me you have a good shot to get a spot in OCS with and SNA/NFO designator. Maybe getting some flight hours under your belt might be a good idea; just a thought.

    Naval Sea Cadets

How old are you? You should also look into the Civil Air Patrol, especially if you are interested in flying. You can learn to fly using CAP aircraft and get scholarships to learn how to fly. The only catch is that you have to be under 18 to join as a cadet and get these scholarship...

Some Random Questions and a specific PRT question

OCS is the same for all officers. You will be classed up w/ aviators, NFOs, surface warfare, etc. The only officers who dont attend regular OCS (except for ROTC and academy guys) are those with professional degrees (doctors, lawyers,..). They attend OCS, but it is a little different from the...

Breakout of NASA Astronaut Corps by service affiliation

I'm not sure. I know to be a mission specialist you do not have to have all that flight time in jets, but to be a pilot you do. There are lots of guys who are pilots in the military but not pilots in NASA, but mission specialists (One of these guys learned to fly at the airport I fly at, Navy...

Breakout of NASA Astronaut Corps by service affiliation

100%. You have to have 1,000 hours jet time to even apply as a pilot. I did get the humor, but I was actually interested in seeing if you had to have jet time

Deja Vu - the Mega oft-repeated question: Differences Between USMC and Naval Aviation

If you absolutely want to get into a fighter/attack, you might want to look into the ANG. You fly whatever the squadron you join is currently flying. Just another option.

    KRock beer choices

Natty Light is brewed right here at the Columbus Bud Factory which means that it is the "freshest" here in C-Bus than anywhere in the world. And you know what, it still sucks!

Coming soon to a runway near you: Traffic lights

I don't think that the lighting is tower controlled. It seems like it is operated like a VASI where it recognizes aircraft on the ground or in the sky. The new system doesn't seem like a bad idea, though I agree that it is unnecessary and yet another thing for pilots to worry about.

Should I take it again? that is the question!

I got the Barron's test study guide and it really helped. Its pretty cheap too, you should check it out before taking the test again; if you decide to do so.
  44. nzachman

    How much am I receiving?

You are also getting a housing and food allowance. For example, in Columbus we get $695 a month for housing plus ~$300 for food. That is why your pay is much greater than what is shown on the chart.
