This is the approach I'm taking as well. I'm in SD for the FRS but I maintain my FL driver's license and am registered to vote there. I never pondered the long term legality of it, though. I at least know I'll head back to FL for tours in the future (my sea tour, maybe whiting down the road)...

The selection for Pilot via NROTC is covered EXTENSIVELY in the NROTC portion of the forum. You have to earn it. The selection goes down your senior year and you find out usually at the beginning of the spring semester (for spring grads).

I was NROTC and had my PRK approved via waiver. I'm not sure of the OCS and PRK process, but it's a common thing for NROTC. Just gotta ask and do everything in the correct order!

Preface: I don't know the standards for Astigmatism for SNA/SNFO, but.... Dude, you've got options. 20/200 isn't abysmal.....I had 20/450 right and 20/400 left and got PRK. My left eye corrected to 20/20 and my right to 20/25....now I've got wings. PRK can do wonders and get you eligible...

The guy probably doesn't know anything about PLC. But I honestly don't think getting a SNA spot out of NROTC is all that tough. If you do decent on the ASTB and have good grades, you'll be fine.

Don't worry about the whole glasses thing. I'm 20/20 in my left and 20/25 in my right after PRK about 4 years ago. I've wore glasses on every flight through primary, advanced, and I will in the FRS. It's not a big deal, more of a comfort issue.

Mmmm justification for video games, believe it. Seriously, just playing things like Flight Sim etc build the foundation, not the ARCO book. It does help to see the test examples ahead of time, though.

Haha, yeah, I totally agree. I addressed that in the second part of my statement. The only area where it'd be better is in the sleep department! When things get turned up 10 notches in Primary, then it'd be more convenient to live on base.

I can't understand why you'd go to Vance on purpose. You learn to fly the Air Force way....and it will only help you if you are staying in the AIR FORCE. I know plenty of guys from Advanced (Helos) that did Primary at Vance. I don't think it sets you up for success as well as Primary at...

I suppose if you lived in the Q up at Whiting, you'd have better access to using the Sims for practice. You'll use them during BIs and RIs when they have free slots open. Often times those open slots arent until the later hours i.e. after dinner. I always did my best to hit the practice slots...

Believe me, the thought has crossed my mind. It is by no means in mint condition, but I'm sure it has some value. If I lived near my Dad and had access to it I would find out exactly what it's worth. I wouldn't be surpised if, after some tweaking/repair, could be made into fireable condition.
