    chances question.

You'll have to talk to your local NROTC (or the one you'd like to go to) about your issues. They can give you a more specific cut off. I would also contact an officer recruiter and look at OCS options as well.

Vindication, hopefully Chicago is next. I'd love to see the court stick it to mayor Daley.

Question that my unit hasn't answered yet.

Always ask your unit about staying longer. I did my 2/c cruise on a fast attack out of Hawaii. Another mid and myself moved our plane tickets back a few extra days w/ no trouble, and others arranged to leave sooner. We worked it out w/ SATO (the travel agency), and they said it wouldn't be...

    Aviation/Commissioning Formula for Rankings (NROTC)

He looks like a pretty good candidate. Lots of good activities on there, and being really good at one (Lacrosse) always looks great. I would think an interviewer might say his grades could be a bit stronger, but there is always something to work on. Keep us posted!

This shouldn't even cross your mind (going outside of aviation). I've gotten a glimpse into the SWO world...it's dark.....and scary. Why go away from a community where you KNOW you'll have fun?

Tips for a HS Sophomore (Early is better than never)

This is the more accurate gouge. Trust me, you don't have to be a all state athlete to get the scholarship. Keep your grades and stay involved with the band (it sounds like you are sucessful). Definitely have the self-discipline to get yourself on a PT routine and improve your fitness. When...

    .357 Magnum Question

I think you'll definitely notice the recoil difference between .38 special and .357 more in the snubbies (like Fly said), ESPECIALLY if they are the S&W Airweight variety. The frame is considerably lighter (for carry). I admit that I don't shoot revolvers at all, so my technique is far from...

Seriously, nothing like diming out a guy that you have to work w/ everyday.....especially over the net. At least if you give out his NSS, follow it up w/ something like: "and you, @sshole, you're lucky to be here!" it might make it go over a little better!

The Great Flight Jacket Thread (wearing/buying Leather, NOMEX, WEP jackets/patches)

flightjacket.com seems to make a pretty good product and has good availability. Who sewed your leather patches on your jackets? I haven't had anything done to it yet, but have considered sending it back to Wings n' Things to get done. What is the gouge on which (if any) squadron patch to put...

    Residency/Tax Question FL/CA

This is the approach I'm taking as well. I'm in SD for the FRS but I maintain my FL driver's license and am registered to vote there. I never pondered the long term legality of it, though. I at least know I'll head back to FL for tours in the future (my sea tour, maybe whiting down the road)...

    Para-dise?

Those are nice looking pistols. I've never fired a 1911 in 9mm, I bet it's a hoot. American Rifleman ran an article about Para's new carry pieces that are DAO 1911's, had to be 6 months ago.

Abysmal Vision, what are my options?

The selection for Pilot via NROTC is covered EXTENSIVELY in the NROTC portion of the forum. You have to earn it. The selection goes down your senior year and you find out usually at the beginning of the spring semester (for spring grads).

    Via NROTC.

Abysmal Vision, what are my options?

I was NROTC and had my PRK approved via waiver. I'm not sure of the OCS and PRK process, but it's a common thing for NROTC. Just gotta ask and do everything in the correct order!

Abysmal Vision, what are my options?

Preface: I don't know the standards for Astigmatism for SNA/SNFO, but.... Dude, you've got options. 20/200 isn't abysmal.....I had 20/450 right and 20/400 left and got PRK. My left eye corrected to 20/20 and my right to 20/25....now I've got wings. PRK can do wonders and get you eligible...

    Aviation/Commissioning Formula for Rankings (NROTC)

The guy probably doesn't know anything about PLC. But I honestly don't think getting a SNA spot out of NROTC is all that tough. If you do decent on the ASTB and have good grades, you'll be fine.

20/20 but need glasses when flying?????

Don't worry about the whole glasses thing. I'm 20/20 in my left and 20/25 in my right after PRK about 4 years ago. I've wore glasses on every flight through primary, advanced, and I will in the FRS. It's not a big deal, more of a comfort issue.

That's kind of a tough sell since you probably haven't interracted with Corpus/Whiting studs yet. Let's make sure I understand the situation: a stud who did Primary w/ the AF is now going back to Navy training, but because he flew the T-6 and did the JSUPT he will have had more...

Thanks for all your help. I originally grew up in Illinois before moving down to FL for flight school....the anti-gun flashbacks are killing me. It must have sounded dumb do ask if places like Walmart sell ammo....but in IL they didn't:(. Anyone ever try purchasing a firearms while stationed...

Hey all, I'm PCSing to CA next week for the FRS. I've been prepping my guns/accessories and had a few questions I figured could get answered here. Capacity: I have several 15-rd mags for my Glock 19 that I'm going to send to my Dad in IL for safekeeping. I've been shopping around...

This will really dumb it down for when you take the test: Your hand=Airplane Desk=land above desk=air where desk ends=water Look down the length of your hand and make the "image" match what is on the test. Then pull your head back and see how your hand is oriented. You'll look ridiculous...

    VANCE decision for a Marine

This will be the key for anyone that heads out to Vance. It's gotta be intimidating to get selected for it, especially after how much it is bashed here. You can look at it this way: Vance has to be good training if it builds the foundation for AF pilots. You just have to be ready to change...

Pensacola BOQ - Full or Not?

Haha, yeah, I totally agree. I addressed that in the second part of my statement. The only area where it'd be better is in the sleep department! When things get turned up 10 notches in Primary, then it'd be more convenient to live on base.

    VANCE decision for a Marine

I can't understand why you'd go to Vance on purpose. You learn to fly the Air Force way....and it will only help you if you are staying in the AIR FORCE. I know plenty of guys from Advanced (Helos) that did Primary at Vance. I don't think it sets you up for success as well as Primary at...

Pensacola BOQ - Full or Not?

I suppose if you lived in the Q up at Whiting, you'd have better access to using the Sims for practice. You'll use them during BIs and RIs when they have free slots open. Often times those open slots arent until the later hours i.e. after dinner. I always did my best to hit the practice slots...

    Anyone own any display cases?

Believe me, the thought has crossed my mind. It is by no means in mint condition, but I'm sure it has some value. If I lived near my Dad and had access to it I would find out exactly what it's worth. I wouldn't be surpised if, after some tweaking/repair, could be made into fireable condition.

    Anyone own any display cases?

All, I'm looking into getting my Dad a display case for a rifle (birthday present). He just acquired a lever action Winchester '94 that isn't fireable, but looks nice. I thought a wooden case w/ a glass front would be a good way to hang it up on the wall. Does anyone own something like this...

    NROTC w/o the Scholarship

Be motivated, get good grades, things will work out. Looking back at my graduating class in NROTC, I think half of the people commissioned with me didn't have scholarships their Freshman year. It's not uncommon to pick one up before Sophomore year, but you need to have the credentials for it.

    Whiting Base Housing

Base housing at Whiting is pretty good, especially if you're only going to lose HALF your BAH. I use my whole BAH on my duplex here (married) and I think it's worth it. The only utility I pay is cable, everything else is included (electric, water). It's a very convenient drive to base AND we...
