    looking into a .22LR

All, Thought this was as good a place as any to start the search! I'm thinking about getting a .22LR just to have some fun at the range with.....maybe use on the cats.....who knows. Right now I'm thinking along the lines of a rifle. Any suggestions? I really don't want to spend a lot...

    Not accepted :(

You'll have to bust your but freshman year to pick one up. It's generally accepted now that you have to be on Scholarship to eventually be commissioned via NROTC. College Programmers that are juniors and later are fewer and fewer. That being said, I'm not trying to discourage you. FOCUS your...

    Pensacola Gun Shop

Jays is way freaking overpriced. They want at least 560 for stock Glocks, complete bullsh!t. I just bought a glock 19 from CDNN.com for 440......with night sights as well. If you are looking at glock and springfields, take a cruise up to Academy Sports on N. Davis. They have fair prices...

    Tech major?

Yeah, youre wrong. There is always room for non-tech majors, but you better have pretty good credentials and grades. Not everyone is going to be an engineer, but of course it's encouraged.

    Springfield XD-40

The prices that can be found and CDNN right now are RIDICULOUS. I just picked up a fully loaded Glock 19 (night sights and all) brand new for $440! They also had HKs on sale in the area of 640-650. They are a pleasure to do business with.

    Springfield XD-40

Don't pay over 500 for an XD. They can be found at a sticker price under 500 lots of places. Online shops have them VERY cheap. www.budsgunshop.com

    Feet/Shin Problems?

Know your pain man, I have plantar fasciitis and it sucks. Had it since OCT and can't make it go away.

that one is probably easier to pass. You can be severly allergic to stuff and still be in the program, dont worry.

Yeah, if you class up by December, you'll be lucky. Enjoy your stash job and vacation.

    allergies

I seriously doubt that Bee Stings will DQ you. Like Nittany said, the medical side of the Navy is quite fair. If you're fine, they'll clear you. I had a slew of allegy probs and sinus infection/bronchitis this past year and STILL passed the flight physical down here at NOMI. Mind you, this...

    Leg problems

Leg stuff is a pain. I've had Plantar Fasciitis since October and it hasn't gotten worse or better. Just wont go away, anyone ever dealt with this? Flight doc sent me to the Podiatrist, and he gave me few inserts....comfy, but not really "helping".

How long does it take to Recover from PRK?

My docs also told me that PRK was the better procedure.

How long does it take to Recover from PRK?

If you plan on getting waivered while in NROTC...it takes some time. They needed the paperwork for at least 6 months worth of checkup for me. It usually takes that long to stabilize anyways. I think senior year is probably too late to look into it, to be honest. Everyone that did it while I...

    Sword Arch For Weddings

http://www.weddingdetails.com/lore/military.cfm#navy&marines http://www.militarysabers.com/military-sword-information/faq-military-weddings.html The OIC of the detail at my wedding used these sites. Everything worked out great. Mine went without a hitch and they practiced it once, 10 minutes...

NAS Whiting field or NAS Corpus Christi

Unless you have follow on orders to Whiting, you're pretty much at the mercy of Flight Management as far as where you do Primary. My buddy just checked in with the January group and they weren't even offered dream wings. I think you can still volunteer for Vance, but not for Whiting or Corpus.

I'm almost postive we were told this on Day Zero of API....in December. I suppose things change.
  19. NozeMan

    free time in a-pool

Haha, no more Cessna flying for you...EVER. No one in A-Pool is allowed to do any flying of their own....that goes for the entire training pipeline as well. Looks like your CAP career is going to be on hold for a few years, sorry.

    Ammunition Issue? Any Ideas?

    Thats a little scary. I carry 165g Hydrashocks in my P229 (.40).
  21. NozeMan

    Current API Gear Issue Situation

Basically, if you're a 44R you will have a tough time getting gear. I'm a 40R and got my 4 green flight suits, a 42-44 nomex jacket and a 42 R leather without a hitch. I actually picked up my helmet today too. People havent been getting helmets for quite some time now.

too bad the P228 is ONLY a 9mm.
  23. NozeMan

    SIG questions

If you bought the P229 as a 9mm, you will NEVER be able to convert it. The slide on the P229 9mm is different than the ones for the .40 and .357. You can go from the big bore to a smaller one, but not the other way around. This goes for all the Sig pistols. If you want more proof, head...

    NROTC (Marine) SNA Question

It's not incredibly difficult to get a Marine SNA slot out of NROTC. Do decent on the ASTB, decent grades, and be a good Marine Option. Those should be your goals anyways. From an academic standpoint, getting a Marine SNA slot is much easier, and it's cool that you can get it guaranteed.

    CORTRAMID or 2/c Cruise?

The CORTRAMID thing has been beaten to death. If you want a unique experience, do a 2/c crusie on a ship that is overseas or going someplace exotic. I had a classmate end up in Vladivostok and another in Vietnam during their 2/c cruises. Goes to show what is out there. Oh, and they had an...

    IFS in Pensacola

Well, I think the definite trend is that IFS down here just sucks in general. The number of horror stories is ridiculous. Seems like people who did it near their ROTC units had a much better time and learned more.
  29. NozeMan

    IFS in Pensacola

Awful idea. I can't see how they could possibly standardize it. Make CIVILIAN flight instructors from different flight schools (that are BUSINESSES and looking to get money from the Navy) have a standard grade format?

    Sinus surgery as a kid

I had an ENT consultation as a part of my NOMI physical when I got down here. I was sent over because of some bad allergies, and sinus infection/bronchitis last spring. I was very up front about my medical issues look at it this way: You lie/hide it, go on in your career and seriously injure...

    Sinus surgery as a kid

I have a friend from NROTC that got waivered for having sinus surgery because of sinusitis. Took a while for all his paperwork to pass, but it worked out for him. Just make sure all your information is filed correctly so they can make an accurate assessment.

    need advice again...

It's about lifestyle, too. I believe Villanova is much more intense than Purdue. Purdue is a basic NROTC program, fairly structured, but it doesn't dominate your life. Maybe that helps, I don't know. There are probably hotter girls at Villanova, but the administrators at Purdue were getting...

    need advice again...

Went to the 'Due and yes, everyone that wanted aviation got it. But like others have said, you are selected for aviation based on a NATIONAL standing, not your college. Purdue does have the rep of spitting out lots of pilots, most of the navy commissionees head down here to PCOLA. But go to...

    Which school?

All you have to do is fax a request to CNET. It's very simple. Purdue was also originally my #2 and I switched my scholarship after another visit.
  35. NozeMan

    Which school?

Where did Purdue rank on your scholarship request? #2 maybe??? Have fun while you're there, make sure you go to talk to the NROTC staff. Definitely make sure you meet the MOI and the 4/C advisor, tell them Noze says hi.
  36. NozeMan

    One ridiculous question.

To actually address the original question: To be able to participate as an NROTC Scholarship Midshipman, you have to be awarded the scholarship to AND be accepted to said school. The order in which this happens can depend on your application process. For example: I had my scholarship in...

    IFS in Pensacola

Yeah, it'll be a royal pain for everyone. On top of that, IFS can be a nightmare down here in PCOLA vs doing it at your commissioning site. I had a great time up in Indianapolis, took 50 days to complete;)
  38. NozeMan

    IFS in Pensacola

I believe everyone now has to do it down in Pensacola. This summer a lot of us got away with doing it at local airports near our ROTC units or whatever. I think the Navy is canning that.

Yeah, this sort of thing could also happen ON FOOT when entering Yokosuka Naval Base. The Japanese guards are real pissy about drunk Americans returning to base.

    Let's see your guns!

As far as online goes, where can I use the Glock discount online? I couldn't comment on Jay's customer service since I haven't bought anything there, but I agree that they are way over priced. I think paying $590 for a new Glock 19 (no night sights or anything) is BS. I can go to Academy...

    1/C Cruise: FOREX or Aviation?

I was there in summer of 2005, when did you do the program? MOCS, especially their sand PT area, look like a freakin' prison! Tall buildings/fences all around, and the clock hiiiiiggghhhh up in the courtyard. At least that was the vibe I got. They threw a pretty good party for us there, though.
  44. NozeMan

    1/C Cruise: FOREX or Aviation?

These guys were a true force of nature. It was probably developed from the fact that drinking was the ONLY thing they had to do when they weren't at MOCS (their version of OCS/Academy, year long deal).

    1/C Cruise: FOREX or Aviation?

Trust me, it's a great choice. It's really cool to meet your counterparts from other countries....and get WASTED with them. Bodes well for international relations (it was my major, i KNOW this!);) ;) ;)
  48. NozeMan

    1/C Cruise: FOREX or Aviation?

Exactly right! That's why I say go FOREX and get an awesome experience w/ another country's Navy. If you know you want aviation, do you really need a crusie to convince you further?
  49. NozeMan

    1/C Cruise: FOREX or Aviation?

I'd vote for FOREX as well. I passed up an aviation cruise and did FOREX with Japan, an awesome and rewarding experience. Unfortunately it's not open to women, but there are a ton of countries can work with. Ask your cruise advisor at the unit, it is a TON of fun. Another guy at my unit did...
