    cool pic

I still don't understand your point. The USN and USAF have been using these engines (t-fans) and this platform (737) for years. Maritime aircraft rarely, if ever go into unprepared fields, and even then, "unprepared" is a relative term. What 'problems' will develop airframe and engine-wise...

Prowler...Prowler...What are you talking about? This thread is about the P-3C ORION replacement...the Boeing 737 MMA. Prowler=EA6B. 2 totally separate aircraft... Maritime aircraft don;t usually need to operate out of unprepared fields, and on the rare occasion they do, it isn't a problem...

    cool pic

OK OK, I know I'm one of the biggest naysayers on the MMA project, even now ("you'll fly the same P-3s for the next 25 years and LIKE IT!"), but even I thought this was a cool picture...

A day in the life of an NFO

Both Pilots and NFOs also hold ground jobs in their squadrons, at home and on deployment. You will need to, at a minimum, hang out in your shop/branch for at least part of the day, every day, and find out from your senior enlisted what issues they are facing and how you can help resolve them.

    The Process After

After OCS...finish flight school. Dont get any DUIs, don't bang anyone you aren't supposed to, don't make an ass of yourself, in uniform or out. Once you get to your squadron, flind whatever Chief or P.O. is the senior E in your shop/branch and ask to talk with him over a cup of coffee...

    An obscure, scary mishap...

As far as parachutes...it is not standard practice to don chutes for every emergency. Generally, a ditch is always preferred, if able, to a bail out. Realize there has never been an emergency bailout of a P-3. The chutes are extremely cumbersome and most P-3 missions require the crew to be...

    An obscure, scary mishap...

Yeah, after his funeral his skipper met the PPC's dad. Dad said that the best time of his life was flying in a P-3 with his son. Skipper obviously was suprised. Apparently the guy was a hard-charger, head of Pilot Natops, IP, etc. But away from home he did some "questionable" things...

    An obscure, scary mishap...

Not a lot as far as what really happened there though. Here's what I remember from the report: These guys went in to do a paradrop for a festival in Pago Pago. The did the drop and then requested a low pass over a bay before leaving the show. They did brief the fact that there was a tram...

    An obscure, scary mishap...

While the viper debate rages...I thought about this mishap. I had the opportunity to read the entire report last year, actually TYPED out (early 80's). Worth a read. http://www.centerseat.net/crash.htm and yeah, the P-3 in the pic is missing a vert stab

The Great Cats and Dogs on Aircraft Carriers Thread . . . with F-16 insanity!

An event of this magnitude would be analyzed and re-hashed for YEARS afterwards. It would be a legendary story of the gulf war. AF planes simply do not land on aircraft carriers. If it had, the Naval Safety Center would no doubt have an article (at a minimum) about how it went down. Guys...

The JAG ep was an F-117. Regardless, no F-16 landed on a carrier. Anyway, yeah, that video of the guy getting sucked into the intake of an A-6 or EA-6, I can't remember...is on the Naval Safety Center site. KEEP VOTING

The Great Cats and Dogs on Aircraft Carriers Thread . . . with F-16 insanity!

Because a USAF aircraft landing on a USN carrier would be HUGE news, not only for the military, but the aero-space industry as well. Think about it, not one of the books re-counting the jistory of the war, especially the ones that focused on the aviation aspect, mention this happening ever...

The Great Cats and Dogs on Aircraft Carriers Thread . . . with F-16 insanity!

The stuff I saw was all done by a LCDR, full stops and JATO take-offs. The video is black and white, kinda grainy, but is narrated. I guess the t-n-g's were done later.

I was in Hawaii, getting ready to go out on a Friday night when I saw that one. First I'm trying not to groan as ol' Harm saves the world, then I saw where they were going with the episode...I started yelling at the TV. I actually threw a shoe. I think he also had lost brake pressure or...

The Great Cats and Dogs on Aircraft Carriers Thread . . . with F-16 insanity!

The story is that an F-16 with an emergency fuel state landed on a carrier during the first gulf war and had to trap "in the net". I have, in 7 yrs in naval aviation, never heard of this, but hey, maybe I'm wrong. Thoughts?
  26. zab1001

    Super Hornet Thread

Come on, thats the kind of story that would be all over every F-16 site ever. And every F-16 jock I've met would try to bring it up when the inevitable "navy vs. air force" argument comes up. It's still considered a big deal that a C-130 did it in the 60's. I'm telling you, it didn't happen...

I actually went to f16.net and looked at every mishap report during the first Gulf War, and there is no mention of any F-16 on a carrier. Someone is yanking your chain. I do thin there was a JAG epsidoe similar to that scenario once...terrible show...

    Boeing or Lockheed?

TONE= T-1. The problem with doing full MMA FRS in Vance is the requirement for a legitimate aquatic range for tactical training. VP-30 in Jax (FRS) doesn't just train up newly winged guys as co-pilots, they also re-qual O-4s and O-5s coming back to the fleet, which requires a legitimate...

  40. zab1001

    Boeing or Lockheed?

Running MMA pilots through TONE's at Tinker really wouldn't be a huge problem. Trying to run the FRS there would, even with all the 737 support, since most of the tactical syllabus in the plane requires water. EMATT's and torps don't work too well in prairie dirt.

    USCS AEW P-3 jobs

I imagine you go to the US Customs website and find the recruiting info. I know the pilots are agents. My on-wing from T-34s went to their training facility for a few months and is now a pilot/agent. I'm still in the Nav, so this is all very, very third-hand knowledge.
