Both Pilots and NFOs also hold ground jobs in their squadrons, at home and on deployment. You will need to, at a minimum, hang out in your shop/branch for at least part of the day, every day, and find out from your senior enlisted what issues they are facing and how you can help resolve them.

Yeah, after his funeral his skipper met the PPC's dad. Dad said that the best time of his life was flying in a P-3 with his son. Skipper obviously was suprised. Apparently the guy was a hard-charger, head of Pilot Natops, IP, etc. But away from home he did some "questionable" things...

Come on, thats the kind of story that would be all over every F-16 site ever. And every F-16 jock I've met would try to bring it up when the inevitable "navy vs. air force" argument comes up. It's still considered a big deal that a C-130 did it in the 60's. I'm telling you, it didn't happen...

I actually went to f16.net and looked at every mishap report during the first Gulf War, and there is no mention of any F-16 on a carrier. Someone is yanking your chain. I do thin there was a JAG epsidoe similar to that scenario once...terrible show...

TONE= T-1. The problem with doing full MMA FRS in Vance is the requirement for a legitimate aquatic range for tactical training. VP-30 in Jax (FRS) doesn't just train up newly winged guys as co-pilots, they also re-qual O-4s and O-5s coming back to the fleet, which requires a legitimate...

Running MMA pilots through TONE's at Tinker really wouldn't be a huge problem. Trying to run the FRS there would, even with all the 737 support, since most of the tactical syllabus in the plane requires water. EMATT's and torps don't work too well in prairie dirt.

Don't forget about hurricane season. There were 2 while I was there, and plenty of people ended up stranded on the island. Keep in mind this is a possibility. Unless they finally went through with that plan to raise the road a few feet....

I imagine you go to the US Customs website and find the recruiting info. I know the pilots are agents. My on-wing from T-34s went to their training facility for a few months and is now a pilot/agent. I'm still in the Nav, so this is all very, very third-hand knowledge.

Knowing you aren't going to the boat is one thing. Knowing you will be landing best case at mins, max xwind, wet/icy/snowy/sandy runway after a 10 hour tactical hop is another. Happens A LOT (Kadena/Oman anyone?) Sometimes a big plane is fun...sometimes it isn't. Fuel planning and on-tops...

The tube rats on the radar models are e-2/awacs guys. Flight stations are almost all former USN P-3 guys.
