V-22 Chosen to be the new COD

Uh, a COD guy did comment, your call if it's insight. COD guys will transition. Some will transition sooner than many think, but the community won't transition overnight. Those who transition early will spend time gaining experience with those already flying the birds so the initial Dets will...

V-22 Chosen to be the new COD

Bing, Bing, Bing, WINNER!!! I've seen the studies (new one coming out from CNA shortly). It will be a challenge to just sustain the amount of pax/cargo in the new aircraft much less tack on additional missions. But I bet we try to do it. There is even a tanking package for the V-22; want to...

NEWS CTW1 T-45 is now a float plane

I am Sure it will fly again, after a year or two... There is a good lesson to the studs in this - we brief this kind of thing every flight, It is important! And when things do go wrong, our safety systems work!

    S3 deck run launch

The Viking had the tables in NATOPS to compute a deck launch, but I don't know of it ever happening. And for recovery, -4 kts wind over the deck required. That happened a lot in CVOA 4 (it sucked).

    T-45 Reservist was a P-3 bubba?

its not unheard of for a VTJ squadron to have one VP guy onboard. We also get E-6 guys. The reality is, most of them do just fine instructing in Phase 1 stuff and most end up with several Phase 2 quals too. Without the folks from the E-2/C-2 & other big wing communities, the VTJ squadrons would...

    T-45 Reservist was a P-3 bubba?

It's dependent on how much the SELRES is available to fly, how well they do, and their motivation. Other than the CQ stuff, any qual is possible for a SELRES from a non-boat background over time (some quals would happen sooner than others). The VTJ SELRES units have all flavors of aviators...

    T-45 Reservist was a P-3 bubba?

I am guessing that you mean he is a reservist (SELRES) flying the T-45 vice FTS. FTS is a full time gig that would not be compatible with being a Southwest pilot. As to how to do it? Network, network, network, and apply for the job; The VTR units at the VTJ bases are always looking for folks.

Transitioning from one aircraft community to another during career

A successful transition is possible, I have done it - it is very much timing & personality dependent. Timing- you have to transition early enough to build enough street cred. in your new community to get picked up for DH. In theory, your shot at O-4 was determined by your record prior to...

Re-select E2/C2 out of primary again for FY13 studs?

SMA=student military aviator. Gator beat me to it. But the new selection process has now been implemented (as of Dec 19 in Kingsville). Those selected under the previous method will continue in that way. Those selecting now will have an E2/C2 option out of primary.

V-22 Chosen to be the new COD

Don't be fooled. The COD can't takeoff with 10K of cargo from the CVN in any conditions (Max in the 8K range, distance & ambient have a vote too). The COD is impacted pretty hard by high temps from land. I have been limited to only 3,000 lbs of capacity in Bahrain even with light loading fuel...

When did the Helo Committment change from 6 to 8 years?

This made me curious, so I looked up my contract from January 1998. My winging commitment was 8 years for Jets, 7 years for props/helos. I guess since I've been both jets & props now, my commitment won't be up until next year?! See attached contract page.

    FY-15 ADHSB

I think your comments are spot on. I don't have an answer to your edit question. I think the monkeying with YGs lately has been crazy. Maybe the bureau saw that there was a glut, monkeyed to try to fix it, saw it couldn't be fixed or put off forever (unless you stagnate everyone below a year)...

    FY-15 ADHSB

I'm not ready to blame "the SWO's get DH earlier" as much as I think the precept guidance may have been an issue. But, the number of 1310/1320's selected, although on the low end, seems to be within the norm (total number, not % selected). To make it worse, there were more IZ than there...

    FY-15 ADHSB

Sorry, maybe I phrased it wrong. Your designator is not hidden to the statutory board, to do so would be futile. Your command history would tell them your designator. But, the board does Not select to any quota based on designators. This year, the board was directed in the precepts to select up...

    FY-15 ADHSB

Is this the first YG with the 8 year commitment for all 1310's? If so, (and I think so), I am inclined to believe that the 8 year commitment means everyone goes to the O-4 board. Higher numbers to the board, with the same (or similar) # of selects needed means lower selection %. I can't...
