    V-22 transition training

I know they haven't sent anyone yet, but they keep saying that they are looking for someone to "go there" in the next year. I know blue dollars buy the aircraft for the Marine Corp however I had also been told that the Navy has committed for up to 35 to keep in the Navy...but then where would...

    V-22 transition training

phrog- I've heard a lot of rumors of a Navy guy going down and flying w/the FRS for a few years - sort of a try it out for the community. Have you ever heard of that? The reasoning was that they keep throwing the V-22 into the mix as a COD replacement, but want a COD guys take after flying...

    ORIGINS of PATCHES

In todays age, it depends on your platform. My first 2 cruises I flew S-3's and left my shore tour with 349 total traps. Now I fly the COD and on my last COD cruise (I only did 4 months of the cruise) I got ~25. On my second COD cruise now and the pace is about the same - ~25-35 for cruise...

    How NJP's affect OCS boards

What is the harm in applying? I would venture that many prior Enlisted Officers have had brushes with the man in their past. What would stand out on your application is how you have performed since then (quals, etc), your evals and Interview boards. Being successful after being "off track" is...

    Missions in IMC

My ride is generally considered to be solar powered! :) The COD does not conduct shipboard ops after sunset (no launch w/in an hour of sunset). However IMC Doesn't effect us. If the wx is bad enough for the ship to canx flight ops, there will be a COD inbound, I guarantee it!

KMAC - Most of our AC are more 38.5 than 38. It was the TCAS/TAWS mod that pushed it to that. I use 38.5 as my personal rule and use that example when I am teaching the rule. Do you guys run into the rule of 11 often? I've only really seen it when doing the long OEF hits out of OBBI and I...

Time of Year and Selection Rates

You cannot predict the 'timing' of these things. OCS is often used as a shock absorber of sorts. If the Navy needs more Officers than ROTC & the Academy will provide, then they open up the floodgates. If ROTC & the Academy are providing ample bodies for the year, OCS becomes very competitive...

    Hawkeye down

Outstanding Memorial Service today, VAW-120 sent their shipmates off with lots of class and dignity. I would venture that there was well over 800 there. The Chapel was filled and overflowed into Bldg C9. People flew in from every corner of the globe. Australia, Japan, all the TRACOM's, etc.

Who wants to be an NFO?

I can accept your point for those NFO's that have co-pilot duties, but I will argue that there are more valid measures of experience for an NFO. My comments and views on this have come from having an NFO skipper get acknowledged for 1,000 traps when hundreds of his traps were in the BACK SEAT...

Um, Ok. But I don't wanna do it by myself. Do you count your landings when you fly as an FE? All I was trying to get at is... Well I guess if you didn't get it the first time you wont. My aircrew don't count traps because, well because they don't. I think they just care about how many...

Who wants to be an NFO?

If you were refering to my post, I think A. The sarcastic and teasing intent my post was pretty blatant B. I spent most of my flying career with NFO's C. If you are in a tube (or obstructed back seat) and have no influence on the pass, I will laugh at you for counting traps. If you...

[Good Natured ribbing] oh gosh, what cliche' can I put in - Self loading bagage? GIB? Ballast? NFO's have a valid job but they don't fly the plane & they don't get traps. Of course most NFO's still count their traps, even if their in the back. (Congrats, you have had a pilot not kill...

Philisophically, I suggest you wait to see if you get picked up for AMDO. If not, then no problem and you can re-apply to IW. If you do get picked up for AMDO, then you have some thinking to do. As for correcting the mistake, I defer to those who have applied more recently. My advice is...

Nice job Kmac - you said all that and a bag of snacks. There has been lots of discussions about the follow on aircraft for the C-2A for several years now. The Monster COD thread (homage to the C-2A Greyhound)

Just producing an identical C-2 with upgraded avionics would not meet the desires of the navy today. The C-2B should be the "next Generation" COD. There needs to be improvements in range, efficiencies, countermeasures, and a variety of capabilities. It is often mentioned that the next COD...
