It would by some window air conditioners for my shops that were over 90 degrees in the summer. It will pay for new carpeting in my squadron to replace the carpet that has been in the Navy longer than I have. We could replace some of the windows in the hangar door so now as many birds get in...

So you're OK with a bunch of terroists getting a brand new soccer field, courtesy of the same gov't they are trying to eventually overthrow because if we don't spend this money, then it will be lost... Once again, I'm at a loss trying to undrstand why in today's resources constrained...

I'm sorry, are you comparing our military pilots actually getting an enjoyable flight to the U.S. government dropping 3/4 of a million dollars so some people who have plotted to kill Americans can enjoy their time dwn at Club Gitmo??? If so then I don't care what pot of money the funding comes...

Just as a data point, neither the Army(http://www.history.army.mil/reading.html), Navy(http://www.navyreading.navy.mil/Navy-Reading/Books.aspx) nor Air Force (http://www.af.mil/information/csafreading/index.asp) have Sun Tsu's The Art of War listed on the professional reading list for any...

    International Burn a Qu'ran Day

I look at Sun Tsu as more like reading the Principles of War (or Joint Operations as they are called in our doctrine). Complex and sometimes abstract concepts boiled down to a few sentences. Sun Tsu can be used as "reminders" to what is important when planning and conducting operations. Old...

    International Burn a Qu'ran Day

For what it's worth General Sherman inspired CAPT Stephen B. Luce to inquire into how the Principles of War relate to Naval Warfare. This started Luce on a quest that eventually led to the development of the Naval War College.

Things that make you go Hmmmmmmm............

I'm sorry, but I don't think you can say that a zero-defect mentality is bad so you have to excuse some offenses, but then try to include a pilot shooting down a friendly aircraft in that discussion. There are lots of issues that I think most on this forum will agree are treated as egregious...

To add to it, when the Airwing is NOT embarked on the carrier, the hot dog roller is going 24/7, the autodog machineis always working and I've even seen a 24 hour chili bar in the wardroom. Once the Airwing is on board you cn't find a chocolate chip cookie to save your life!

I realize you were joking, but duing the Falklands conflict, the Royal Navy kept all their clocks on London time (zulu) even though they were three time zones ahead. That would be like deploying from Norfolk and keeping your clock set to Eastern time even though you were in the Med. But to...

    AIRLANT visit Q&A

Spoken like a true LAMPS guy! This was one of the EP changes that NAVAIR forced the H-60B and H-60F/H to merge. Since HS flew around at 150 feet, the two extre steps were to ensure the aircraft was still flying before you start looking at the VIDS to diagnose. The HSL mentality (term used by...

    The great Helo debate

To add to this EP issue, back in 1999 NAVAIR directed the 60F/H Model Manager (HS-10) and the 60B Model Manager (HSL-40?) to make the EP's standard. The Rotary Wing and VX-1 folks who flew both models complained that the same EP (like single engine failure EP) in similar aircraft was different...

Mexican Generals; Why so many ribbons?

When I was on a Strike Group staff when the GQ alarm sounded, the SWO's would start rolling their sleeves down and tuck their pants into their socks. All us aviators would start yawning and start making our way to our staterooms since it was time to take a nap... I guess it's a culture thing...

    The great Helo debate

I don't think the design of the head (low-inertia vice high-inertia) is the overriding factor, it's the design of the blades. The Huey blades we designed with the ability to be able to clip branches and keep on smiling. The H-60 was designed to lose the tip cap in the event you hit something.

Legally? It's part of the sea-bag, so I guess the answer is yes.... But, I would say it all depends on where you are and if you unit wears them. Since you're at Maxwell, I'm assuming your don't need them. What's your next duty station? That will determine what uniform you need. If you're...

New official Command Check in Guidance

It's just a subtle way for the CO to say to the board that he/she really thought highly of you. CO's typically have the FitReps scored so the RSA stays the same. When the CO writes a 1 of 1, that score will still count againt that CO's RSA. When you record is reviewed the reviewing Officer can...

New official Command Check in Guidance

If you got a #7 of 12 hard break-out on the last completive cycle I don't know if the CO would write "My #1 water-walking..." when you detach. A CO may, but it won't matter to the board. The board values competitive FitReps primarily because the is little room for the CO to maneuver with the...
