    Cutting back on fuel consumption...

Mumbles, sounds like fodder for the "What makes a bad leader?" thread. And maybe one on why Front Offices should never "be the same type." Over a fucking 2 engine loiter. Sandy vag.

    Cutting back on fuel consumption...

I've read and re-read your post a few times and I guess I'm missing something. Was the meeting held in order to review the procedures in order to give everyone a refresher and remind crews that it's a valid option? Or did someone have some issue with the decision to do it? Why were they...

There are pros and cons to the organization, I was in the program for 3 years: Cons: Depending on the individual unit, the professionalism issues and power trips that come with any adult-run youth organization are present. I saw the same thing in Boy Scouts, but if you take it all with a...

I Don't Know Whether to Laugh or Cry....

if you're referring to the "lapel" pins, they do represent their branches in that manner. Similar (not exactly) to the USN's line officer stars vs. other weird embroidery on sleeves and shoulderboards. I always thought it was a pretty cool tradition and an example of esprit de corps.

    Summer Training

All they can say is no. However, the sub guys going to dive school is fairly logical and I could see someone buying off on it. They could feasibly be required to perform those duties in their future careers. Jump school? Why would they send you if you will never use the training/qual as a...

I Don't Know Whether to Laugh or Cry....

FAO- There has been no news of this, and considering the majority of us already have "real" pins, I doubt anyone is pursuing it. (most Oceano and HR types are in the same position)

This could have been bad. - Finally a good outcome.

The point I'm making is that the inherent concepts behind CRM are not more or less important today than they were in the past. I will agree with you that their organized application and instruction to aircrew has increased, which is ultimately a good thing, despite the sheer boredom...

"These days?" As opposed to when? It wasn't before? What do you mean, "going away?" Is there some impending vacuum of experience in the airline industry? These guys did their job. The End.

    Aviation Rescue Swimmer

Uh, no. Are you saying an AF officer with a "designator" (or MOS, or whatever the AF calls it) of CRO has a job that is the equivalent of a SWO's collateral duty as a ship's rescue swimmer? Do some research on what a CRO is. Comparing a job like CRO to any collateral duty of a USN officer is...

My sarcasmometer is gauge limit, but for anyone wondering, a prop malfunction can go from "hm" to "crap" to "compound" to "fucked" faster than you can get to the book, much less open it to the correct page and subsequently figure out where you are. The notes/warnings/cautions are usually...

No, that's according to Milan Vego, someone I have heard referred to as "the Clausewitz of our time" more than once. His opinion holds some serious weight. His stuff comes in the "Painful Flavor" of JPME JMO Brand Kool Aid. And his book "Operational Warfare" is awesome, it's just the...

    P-3's to E2/C2

I know a guy who did this. How? They needed an E2/C2 guy. He had listed E2/C2 as his #1 choice but got #2, P-3s. He had a ridiculously high NSS coming out of T-34s and was kicking ass in T-44s. (note the part I emphasized)

Keep your mouth shut for the first 6 months unless you have a legit question. Watch the more experienced JOs. You'll figure it out. DO NOT show up for the first time at a squadron party, get wasted, and tell your XO how much NFOs suck and why they're worthless. Especially if he has civvies...

Status of OC in a ROTC unit/OCS for NROTC Units??

When you finally check in to your first squadron as an aviator, make sure to find out where the Skipper got his commission. If he was straight-stick NROTC, make sure to let him know how you feel. Good luck.

Maybe I just need a little reassurance.

When I applied for FAO, I believe the requirement was 8 years of commissioned service. I think they either have, or are about to reduce it so SWOs coming off their first tours can apply. I'm too lazy to read the Pers website right now. FWIW, I'm at NPS, with a bunch of other 1720s, and they...
