    VMI, The Citadel, or VTCC?

I went to VMI, so if you have any questions feel free to PM me. It was definately an experience and I am very glad I went there. Dont believe all of what the website tells you though. I used to do recruiting trips for them when I was a cadet there. (Somehow I managed to get more people to...

USNA Prank at the Air Force Academy

Reminds me of the VMI/Citadel rivalry when we managed to borrow their vintage jeep and drive it out onto our football field at halftime.

Marine Air vs Air Force or Navy

Sadly I saw all of this from the AF at VMI. The upside down pushup, frisbee, trips to the beach, etc.

    Car Problem...

I never take my car to the dealership. You will eventually get to the point where you realize that 99% of them either have no clue what they are doing or lie to get more money out of you. If you have issues with your car, look on the VW forums for the likely cause. I think checking the owners...

Marine Air vs Air Force or Navy

Actually, exchange tours typically count as shore tours. I was asking around trying to see about some sort of tour with the German Navy and assumed it would count as a sea tour since you deploy with them, etc. However I was told that it normally is treated like a good deal shore tour.

    The Citadel-good NROTC program??

Thats nothing until your friends are marching tours with 80 pound rucks in all of their free time to count as 2 and 3 for 1's to be elegible for graduation. :)

    IFS gouge

I had no flight time before IFS. He said that we both picked it up quick. However we both asked for Mr. Miles and went in wanting to learn as much as possible and enjoy it. As for other instructors, Im not really sure. I know one quit with no notice to his students or anyone. The others Im...

    IFS gouge

Well I did get to shoot my first ILS there. In a thunderstorm, in a 172, down to the mins. Saw the runway lights right as we hit the bottom. The airliner behind us waved off because they never saw the runway. :)

    IFS gouge

Actually I had said instructor when I did IFS at Eglin. I thought it was awesome. Did the week of classes, then had a week of 5am flights. Great if you wanna actually fly and get through fast. In the summer 5am flights means you beat the crazy weather moving in. My roommate and I both had...

What you may now know about Iraq.

What you may not know about Iraq. Alot of good information on what has really been done in Iraq. This is just a blurb. Full article here. http://www.frontpagemag.com/Articles/ReadArticle.asp?ID=17947

Not an ensignmobile but cool none the less

Nice looking and nice theory. Too bad it has the faulty control arms and the crank seal that leaks oil. Even better that the recall involves shimming the seal instead of installing a new one. (Something I dont think they have done in 20 years) Even under all that beauty, its still a Ford.

Helo pilots ‘counseled’ for rescuing New Orleanians without permission

I heard talk about this in the squadron today. Interesting situation. What happened to the SAR provision where we are supposed to give aid when/if we can?? I know its not law of the sea since it was inland, but still... If a survivor had been floating in the ocean after being swept out of...

Your thoughts on Private Pilot Training

I would say that for the money you are going to spend on it, its not worth it. People with private licenses and such do the same as everyone else. The only difference I saw were the people with a lot of hours. Ie some guys came in with Aerobatic licenses, 1000 hours, Tomcat RIO's. Those...

    The Citadel-good NROTC program??

If you are looking at the Citadel, you should consider VMI. I actually turned down the Academy and several other schools once I looked into VMI. I am definately glad I went there. www.vmi.edu

advances in infantry weapons technology vs. advances in aviation weapons technology

There were some nice advances, none were ever approved though. Personally I liked the idea of the HK assault rifle with all the nice mods that used caseless ammo.

    New PFA rules

Wasnt the airforce doing away with the bicycle test because it was easy to screw with it? I knew guys who joked about how messed up it was because even being out of shape all they had to do was smoke a cigarette before, then do the bike test and easily pass. Something about measuring a...

    T-34 vs T-6

Actually, the TH-57 sims are leaps and bounds above the T-34 sims. Still not completely accurate, but pretty close. The SH-60F sims are even better than the 57 ones.
  20. lowflier03

    T-34 vs T-6

Well when I was in Corpus we had a few G limited AC. Those sucked to fly, you couldnt really do any hops in them except BI's. I think 2.5 was the limit but I cant be sure.
  21. lowflier03

    T-34 vs T-6

    Not tougher, more fun. :)
  22. lowflier03

    T-34 vs T-6

There was a reason the training command gave but I dont remember it at the moment.
  23. lowflier03

    T-34 vs T-6

Actually Corpus has been the place where you could always use more AOB on breaks and such. Now they are just instituting T-34 wide orders to extend the airframe life as long as possible. Though cruise forms were the most fun flights in all of Primary.
  24. lowflier03

    T-34 vs T-6

The total transition will take awhile. Mainly nothing in Corpus has long enough runways for its use. Leave it to the beancounters to buy an AF aircraft that has no beta and crappy brakes.

AF, Navy, ROTC, or the Academies?

So many things to say here. First, dont choose a school/route just because it will get you to being a pilot. Look at all aspects of it. ie the Academy, ROTC, etc. I read all the books on the academies I could find when I was looking at options. I also checked into some other schools and...

    Future of helo land

Alot of people were wondering why even bother with a Sierra model instead of just reopening the Hotel line. If you saw the specs on the armed helo kit for the Sierra, you would change your mind. It really is beyond the hotel. More fuel, more weapons, more sensors, etc. Too bad the tailwheel...

  29. lowflier03

    Future of helo land

After talking with some people I definately cant wait to see what the new -60S armed helo kit can do. It will finally make the Sierra better than the Hotel. The current release date for the armed helo kit is Oct. of 06. It sounds alot like the Army's new MH-60L DAP (Direct Action Penetrator)...

    Shin Splints

If you get shin splints real bad, or regularly then you want to see a sports medicine doctor or an orthopedic specialist. The key is that your feet may not "work" normal. Ie you might pronate, etc. Which means that it puts undue stress on your shins and muscles, etc. If that is the case...

OCS injury not getting any better..

Sounds like some good advice from everyone. Definately get the Orthodics. That will help keep the stress fractures from coming back. (Because they will help your feet work correctly and not pronate, etc.) When I had stress fractures from running too much, I had to force my doctor to give me...

    Oregon Aero Zetaliners

Took me till my last 3 weeks in advanced to finally get it, but it was worth it. Got the liner and earcaps. All the guys I know are pissed they are still stuck with bubble wrap. Now Im just trying to get the eaplug/mic rig from the PR's out here in North Island.
  33. lowflier03

    Oregon Aero Zetaliners

SNA's dont rate them unless your helmet really doesnt fit and there isnt any other way to make it fit comfortably. (Or you are really nice to your PR's hint hint). As for them being worth it. Definately! The problem with buying them on your own is that they come in many different sizes and...

    Check this out...

Simple, you ever see the video of the RC lawnmower flying? You put a big enough RC airplane motor on something and it will fly. It probably just uses a pusher prop to go, and the back wing of the boat acts as the elevator.

Gov. Bush Vetoes `Road Rage' Bill

What about the safety issues when faster traffic has to cross to the right hand lanes to get around the idiots doing 35 in the fast lane? I absolutely hated florida drivers.

    RAG length

6 months + or - 2 weeks for HS. And as of right now, japan guys are doing their RAG here in San Diego. At least the 3-4 guys that I know going to Japan are. (That selected in the last several weeks-month.)

    pontiac GTO

I thought your avatar was hilarious. As for more of my mods...theres a decent list. Twin 13T turbos, upgraded IC's, 680cc injectors, ITC controller, LS6 MAF and MAFT, hotwired Walbro pump, RPS clutch and flywheel, MBC, datalogger, exhaust, suspension, etc, etc. The propane increases the...

    pontiac GTO

Well i'll give you a hint at 2 of my mods. Propane injection and 20+ psi of boost on a daily basis. Im currently building up a second motor for more power and to make it more bulletproof. Gotta love a daily driver that can do that and still get 26MPG highway and 20+mpg city.
  39. lowflier03

    pontiac GTO

The turbo setup would make the GTO worthy. Then it would essentially be a modern GNX. Nice times with the SS. I still think Ive got ya though...both straight and handling. ;)

    pontiac GTO

Actually that review makes it sound like the car is designed with performance in mind. Closely spaced pedals makes it easier to heel-toe on shifts and cornering. The car obviously wasnt made for very large people, but for the average sized person, I bet its a nice fit. I actually like cars...
  43. lowflier03

    pontiac GTO

Those are 2 excellent choices. Its not uncommon to see GNX's with over 1000HP. I wish Buick would make a modern version of that car. As for the Fox Bodys....absolute crap. Handling sucked big time, the only thing going for them was the 5.0 motor...and eventually Ford took that away...

    pontiac GTO

It might have done a bit better, had he found an engine that was capable of moving that heavy beast. And people think my car is heavy. Though with their construction, DeLoreans will be around forever. Just not running.
  45. lowflier03

    pontiac GTO

Lol, but no one would ever think to call it a performance car.
  46. lowflier03

    pontiac GTO

I dont think any 80's cars will become classics with the exception of Ferrari, Porsche and maybe a select few models that had great performance for their class. ie 300zx, GNX and the mitsubishi vr4's of the era.
  47. lowflier03

    pontiac GTO

Because I dont wanna pay that much for a new car. Plus I know firsthand about Mitsubishi quality. And Subies just arent my thing. For as little money as I have in my car to get the 600+HP I have at the crank now I wouldnt trade it for anything. I love this car and have ever since I saw the...

I figured maybe this was an advancement on the NOTAR designs. Although that used a ducted fan down the tailboom and a specially designed outlet to create an aerodynamic force.
