Only fire pits with sand ants, now :D

    Here we go...

For things to memorize, it would be extremely helpful if you had the "Big 4" down before you went to OCS. The Big 4 being, General Orders of a Sentry, Articles of the Code of Conduct, Chain of Command and the Rank Structure of the Navy and Marine Corps. They are supposed to be recited...

Holy crap, did you just find that out today?

    Jan. Boards

So, sounds like you're pretty sure about that, praying4, that's awesome. The 21st is MLK day, would they really meet on a govt holiday? It will still take a few days for the results to show up, but it would be real nice if we could find out sooner rather than later...

    New BAH policy...

I'd be happy to poke around, but in that case: what questions can one ask, and to whom?

    Running at Newport

For those of you with injury problems, have you tried running on the balls of your feet instead of slamming your heels? Takes some getting used to if you never do it that way, but all the shock is absorbed by your padded step. This was posted elsewhere, but seems relevant now, as well...

    A Couple questions

Dude. Pick your school as if you weren't joining the navy or going to be a pilot. It's not that important to have previous flight experience, they'll just retrain you anyway. And at least when you get out, you'll have a usable degree to back you up.

Looking for gouge? Ask your Stupid Questions about Naval Aviation here (Part 1)

Ok, I have a stupid question. When they introduce new platforms, and the new ones are completely different animals than the old ones, who gets to be the first ones to train on them? Is it the experienced guys who are already expert pilots? Or is it the fresh nuggets that aren't set in the...

    Application delays

Don't they scan yours into a machine? My fingerprints, except for the two paper copies printed out for my package, are now in the system tubes as data. Though, to be honest, the machine was broke when I first went in and I had to come in twice more over 2 weeks to get it done. Ah, this was...

    Huckabee vs. Obama?

They didn't omit it. They talked about that towards the beginning of his candidacy, or at least, as much as you can discuss the implications of a middle name. Any more and they'd be beating a dead horse, probably make themselves look ridiculous as a news source for dwelling on it.

The Millennials are coming, the Millennials are coming!

Everyone knows it's fogeys' jobs to look at us askance! :p This was a very interesting read. I can definitely tell I was raised this way, although I think they're really exaggerating about most of it. Yeah, maybe if you worked at Google it would be like that. Personally, I've been...

Sure does. I've been wanting to try real estate related investments for awhile now, it's good to know that there are similar interests out there.

Is friend getting tricked? Bootcamp requirement for PLC?

I had to get a second opinion today from my regional OSO because some enlisted recruiter guy on a hotline told my mom that I'm not eligible for the GI Bill. Good times. Won the bet, though.

    Just need advice

    1. I don't think I'm going out on a limb to say your wife and daughter can't come with you on a boat, 2. I would think air force officers would be more like robots than navy, from how I perceive their culture 3. http://www.airwarriors.com/forum/showpost.php?p=386220&postcount=35 and my...

    Privately Owned Harrier....

Goodness. Well that answers my question as to whether he can fly it very well. Do many NA's get into investments like that after they get out? I was thinking of trying to start something along those lines.

Is friend getting tricked? Bootcamp requirement for PLC?

Ha, I made that mistake in the beginning. My recruiters kept showing me NUPOC because of my engineering degree and because it's such a good deal, and I asked them if they weren't just trying to push me to that instead of pilot. BIG mistake. I could tell it hurt their feelings. Now that I...

    workout supplements

Sure it helps your workouts, but you regress after you stop taking it...and once you start, they won't let you take it. I think you should get used to blasting yourself without it.

Ah, but the groom gets to be the first to stab her with a knife and eat a piece of her...that could be fun, too. :tongue2_1

    Pilot Training questions

You're not guaranteed to fly anything in particular anyway, so I'm of the opinion you should choose your service first based on their respective cultures. If you look around here for awhile you might be able to get a flavor for that.

    Pilot Training questions

All this stuff is farrrrrr in the future for you, bucko. I just took the ASTB in october and I've been graduated from college since may. Pick a school for a useful major that you'd like to do assuming you don't do naval aviation (technical degrees help your chances) and enjoy your college...

    Working my way up...........

Ok, well I used to think the way you do, but I've since learned that the reality is you either do it or don't do it. If this is something you really want, the "odds" are less and less applicable to you. Get with an officer recruiter (you already have a degree, dude) and start putting...

A NY Times Reporter Tries to Understand OCS...

The short answer is, the military is traditional and resistant to change, so some grumbling is to be expected. It's hard NOT to grumble when someone makes a judgment based on having no idea what the purposes are of these exercises. That applies to civilians too, if I had to respond directly...

    Proper breathing during push ups?

Sure will, I...waiiiit a second... *senses impending trap* That's the kind of thing you only say in your head, like replacing the word "pain" with "fun" FUN! It's comin' to YOU!

Am I too fat right now for pilot?

What were you doing, towing tractors on your runs? You gained TWENTY pounds of leg muscle from running? Are you SURE that's what it was from?
  41. red_ryder

    Proper breathing during push ups?

Instead of letting it all out at once (hah!), try blowing it out under pressure (whhhh!) as you're going up. That seems to keep your chest puffed on the way up so you feel more leverage, plus it helps you absorb oxygen better. I like to pretend I'm a steam engine. Woo-woooo!

    Astb

    NAMI whammy

I heard, in a different thread, that it helps to use reading glasses while reading (especially AW) to reduce eye strain, and another idea they said worked was wearing a light +prescription glasses walking around, so your eyes get some exercise trying to see distances. Supposedly it makes them...

    Next Board for 197/198?

I think there's a different board for each designator. Some of them happen to be on the same days, but I'm not sure even if the dates vary by recruiting district? Edit: And I'm not sure if they do it like that for the marines...I'll I've got is navy info.

The Great Universal Health Care Debate w/Poll (note: it just passed both houses)

This is not like "saving people who were in a car accident". This is like saying someone shot themselves and now you have to go pay their hospital bill. TONS of lifestyle choices are directly related to health; smoking, eating habits, activity... Now, while I'll fiercely defend your right to...

The Great Universal Health Care Debate w/Poll (note: it just passed both houses)

I don't remember seeing "the right for the government to pay for your medical care" OR even "the right to get medical care" anywhere in the bill of rights. 1, like he just said, it already costs so much dang money that it will cripple us to implement, unless we seriously reform the system...
