Warning: Everything at ocs has changed

I'll tell you one thing, whether any rumors are true or not has NO bearing whatsoever on your chances. Truth be told, you don't need to know anything special to succeed. Just show up with what you're supposed to have, and bring your good attitude, and you'll be fine.

How did your student loan payment get to be more than most people's mortgages?

Will be toasting you from Pensacola, dude. Congrats! Edit: oh, I guess this was awhile back. Still, congrats anyway!

A-School student shot and killed in P'cola

Out the back gate is pretty nice, I live there. A lot of military live out here, so it's pretty uneventful. (knock on wood) I heard about this, quite disturbing. :icon_rage Pensacola, classy as always.

DC Sniper to die Tuesday, 9pm

I just don't think it's very healthy to be celebrating death, even a criminal, but I am glad justice will be served, and relatively swiftly even.

    Outback Steakhouse on Veterans Day

The catch here, is that the non-participating location is their bar. ;) That said, I do love me some bloomin' onions. I, for one, am In.

    Toughest physical regiment???

Oh, jeez...bear crawls through goose sh*t and broken clam shells, right guys? :) I also had a lot of "fun" doing the lunges with your whole class arm-in-arm, down the big line...remember that one? What else do you guys remember liking best? ;)

    Prior Service going to OCS

I'd say...keep a straight face anyway. :) Addendum: the priors in my class were generally quite serious and locked on, and did pretty well.

Ring Ring, its the future calling

If you've been watching the TFR's, you can see when they do test flights. Great big purple-bordered playgrounds, in the sky.

    Quitting OCS?

I'm pretty sure it's written into an obscure verse of the DOR policy! ...but who ever gets close enough to read that? :D

    Am I wasting my time?

I had an even worse GPA. I'd say you got a shot...BUT: it's going to be a ton of work, a life-changing commitment, and on average will take a great deal more effort than your desk job. It's not for everybody, no harm/no foul if you want a less stressful job... To point: it's worth applying...

    NFO Pipeline Squadrons/Locations

Ah, so that means no more NFO's teaching NFO's, right? (how does that line go?)

    Inglorious Basterds

After, when I was trying to analyze what the movie made me feel like. Boy, you homophobes sure know how to ruin a great analogy with your repressed lashing out! ;)

Ants are commies! (especially the red ones) Case closed.

    Inglorious Basterds

My point was, it was intimately uncomfortable. Mission accomplished! Edit: I do like T&A, it would have been nice to trade some of that in. That would have balanced everything nicely with the really funny parts for the trifecta.
  17. red_ryder

    Inglorious Basterds

Yeah, that was a convenient excuse to make a movie about it, alright.
  18. red_ryder

    Inglorious Basterds

It sucked. There were some good parts, but mostly it was like Quentin Tarantino jerking off in your face and ejaculating blood and guts all over you. There was no real point.

The return of barefoot running....now with Five Fingers!

I was about to buy some last fall, and the kind I wanted sold out. I'm glad someone else tried them out first; I think I'll get me a pair.

    Single Parent Considering Navy OCS

That, and I find it ironic that your profile hobbies include spending as much time with your son as possible. At this point, at his age...just my personal opinion, but isn't there some other career option available? Sounds like this might be pretty tough to be missing not one, but two parents...

    flag protocol

I always think it's a good facepalm whenever I hear polls of how many americans think it should be illegal to burn flags... ...when that's the proper way to retire them, too. Oh, ignorance...

    (BDCP) Choosing an officer community

Well, this site should give you a list of what's out there: http://usmilitary.about.com/od/officerjo2/a/menu.htm Keep in mind, nothing is going to be quite like the movies. It's a job, and it's a lifestyle. As for choosing...surely you feel drawn to some more than others? That's how I...

    API rumor control

Dude. It's not a big deal to muster in whites; they're cooler in the heat anyway. The API people will always figure out fun games to keep you occupied while you're in A-pool and don't have anything better to do. That being said, I always resented it, just a little...the rest of us weren't...

    BEST places to RETIRE-

This is a good question, I'm interested in hearing the more experienced voices on this, as well. Edit: and please don't say Pensacola. A question though, it almost looks like after you retire you want to live on a base? wtf for? I'm putting in a nomination for Omaha, NE. Except for the...

    Question about Blue Angels

We were taxiing out before the show, looked like a pretty big turnout. I got a brief kick out of pretending they were all there to see us. :D Seriously though, I'm sorry I missed it, the Blues are always a good time.

    Getting married POST OCS

MasterBates could give you a whooooole lecture on this topic. I suppose though, in A-pool, you have more time than in any phase so far.

    Navy Officer Contract

Dude. They won't try to trick you, I promise. Did you have any specific concerns? The forms they use for enlistment are the same for everyone. They won't try to slip something in there to make you a SWO or seaman recruit. That being said, you enlist as an E-5 until you commission at OCS, so...

    serious question

First, you should probably decide what you're looking for. This isn't just a job, it's a lifestyle, and not always an easy one. If you were to decide, after much research, that it was for you, the process goes as follows: You get in touch with an officer recruiter and tell them you're...

    leg pain at OCS?

I remember when I first started training for OCS, I'd get shin splints pretty bad. I eventually realized I was pounding my heels when I ran, which was yanking on my shin muscles. I got a new pair of shoes, took it easy til it stopped hurting, and started stepping with the flat or ball of my...

    IFS Thread?

Well, like Rocky said, IFS is pretty self-evident. I know your tendency is to try to find all the gouge, but all you really need to do is put in the study time and pay attention. If you need help, just ask your instructor. That's what they're there for. I'm not sure you even get your...

Need to find a pensacola rental with male roommates

*I* know where you're coming from, but at the time would you have listened to people? I'm just saying, from experience, guys usually have to learn the lesson the hard way. (if they have to learn it)

Need to find a pensacola rental with male roommates

I'm sure it will work itself out. She'll have to ease up a bit or he'll have to give up his career, but either way, I think we've made our point. Call off the dogs, boys.

Honduran Democracy -- Central American style ...

So you're saying that although it worked in this case, it could easily be abused in other circumstances?

Honduran Democracy -- Central American style ...

I might as well keep my head down and qualify up front that I'm no expert, but isn't this what was supposed to happen? A guy made a play towards dictatorship, supreme court ruled in favor of the constitution, and the executive branch acted quickly and decisively to fix the problem. Maybe...

Honduran Democracy -- Central American style ...

On the other hand, this was direct to the point and expedient, for a change. I, for one, find it refreshing that justice be dispensed so quickly without being mired in simpering red tape.

Trouble at the Air Force Academy

No worries, part of the function of basics is to hammer out dents like this guy. He'll learn sooner or later, or else. Shame there's no gunny around though. I like the Corps style of doing these things.

Roommate needed for house 10 min out back gate, NAS Pensacola

Hey, it's that time again. Roommate got P-3's and headed off to JAX, so we need a roommate. It's a house out the back gate about 10 minutes, equidistant to downtown and the Florabama for partying. Nice neighborhood, predominantly military, 5 mins to Perdido beach. The other two of us are...

    sTUPID qUESTIONS aBOUT ocs

Yeah, pretty much! As for running, you can definitely be slow and move up. I started out towards the back of the medium group and later I moved up to the fast group (because you can). It DEFINITELY pays dividends on your speed on the out-pfa. More importantly, in your fitness I guess...
