I think feenix interpreted the answer as jet/prop guys receiving their rotary rating as well. As far as I know, this is not the case. Only helo and osprey guys get their rotary cert through the military.

I always advise against holding your breath for a waiver that may or may not come. Take the slot. From what I hear on the forum, air contracts are hard to come by these days, even without a waiver. What do you mean when you say 196 is a must?

As a guy who had to wear the chucks on more than a few occassions during flight school, few things screamed "Help me!" like wearing the penalty suit. Sure, a struggling student will ask for help, but a guy wearing shiny shoes and a belt exudes an atmosphere of humility and willingness to learn...

It can't hurt practicing your rope-climbing technique (with boots) ahead of time, and there's a little maneuver called the "college-boy roll" that saves about 5 seconds, that only about half the guys can master while at OCS. PM me if you want details.

I think the STBY BATT light goes on if the stby batt stays on after the battery/generators are off (i.e. you shut down but forget the stby batt). Also, make sure you correctly understand the Batt Relay light when you get to the Charlies, as many guys do not fully grasp the concept.

Did it work out as planned? Then it's a happy, heart-warming story of an underdog who beat the odds. If not, then it's a heart-breaking story of somebody who tried to beat the system and lost, but can still slightly amuse third-parties.
