    Current SNA please advise

I can't answer your specific question but just so you know, I applied for OCS without one officer or anyone active duty in the military writing a LOR for me. I would just say that your LOR's should be people who really know you. In other words they have know you for years and have really good...

    private pilot license

I can't comment on Waldo's second point, but I feel that his first is very true. Although I can't say if this is true or not, but I thought my PPL boosted my application significantly. I had four years out of college however to scrap enough money for it.

    An ABSOLUTE must HAVE!

+1 on that. Great doc. It's half of that price on iTunes however....

    Flight physical durring OCS?

McC, yes it's supposed to be like that, but I apparently needed glasses (even though I tested 20/15 at meps) after my physical in Newport, so I had to get my eyes checked again when I checked in(suddenly I'm back to 20/15). I sat around for a few hours and shot the breeze till I got my up-chit...

    Flight physical durring OCS?

Yes, you'll spend a whole day during indoc week getting it done, and then you'll spend the rest of the time up in OCS trying to fix what they screwed up. You'll still need to go to NAMI when you check into NASC, but it won't be half as bad as in OCS.

    The "downfall" of the Cowboys

    Freaking outstanding video. Go Giants.
  9. Morgan81

    Done!!

Two weeks? I thought it was always administered on the computer and you got your results instantly. Sucks for waiting, good luck though.

    Intel and IW to merge?

My recruiter mentioned this was in the air when I was thinking of putting Intel on my application over a year ago and and would probably happen eventually. That's the only time I've ever heard of it. I wouldn't expect it to happen anytime soon, if ever. Don't loose sleep over it.

    OCS week by week

We got destroyed in our cadillacs well before RLP. We ditched them that week, but the newer classes get to keep the go-fasters on the whole time. That's cause there isn't a squad bay in all of Newport. Who's been bragging about it? All Tom said was thanks.
  12. Morgan81

    OCS week by week

Candio's take them the first few weeks, but you can take your own cameras to firefighting. Oh by the way xmid, an honor class is an honor class. There is no semi-honor class.

    New BAH policy...

As far as I know this is only applicable to OCS grads. See this thread as it is the same issue.
  14. Morgan81

    New BAH policy...

I am in the same boat as you and will be getting Per Diem backdated once I get to my "final duty station" ie, Corpus. I had to argue with PSD for hours and then talk to my chain of command. It'll suck for a few weeks but you'll be in API before you know it.
  15. Morgan81

    Newport RI Eats...

+1 on Black Pearl. Coddington Brew Pub ain't bad either.
  16. Morgan81

    IFS and API

Right, forgot to say that. Every place I've seen here honors the military clause, and even if they don't the NLSO can get you out of any lease. I was referring more specifically to getting PCS'ed.
  17. Morgan81

    OCS week by week

    Thats, Ensign Hotsauce.
  18. Morgan81

    IFS and API

As for the OPs other questions, I think you'll only get a PCS move if you're a prior and have follow on orders to Whiting. I got a crappy partial dity move (I think thats what they called it, basically cash per mile from Newport to here) and as housing goes, I'd recommend booking a few nights...

    Checking In

What John said...as far as I know. The reason no one really knows what to do is because there's only a handful of us who are going through this.
  20. Morgan81

    Crazy Blood Pressure

Come on man, those things are like arcade games. Just talk to a nurse or someone who knows how to take it the old fashioned way to get your real number and work from there.
  21. Morgan81

    Between MEPS and OCS physical

This happened to a friend of mine who was going SPECWAR or EOD or whatever, and I believe he just had to redo MEPS. You're right about MEPS not being that tough, though, more than a few people have been NPQ'd at OCS.

    Insider Scoop on Navy OCS

Speaking only for myself, and only based on my experiences with my class, I could not agree more with this statement. Maybe I drank too much of the kool-aid, maybe I was too busy dealing with the trees to see the forest or maybe it just isn't evident to the candidate's point of view. That...

    OCS week by week

LT Alvarez's site is very helpful to get a quick overview of what to expect. Don't bank on anything being 100% correct however and to be honest, you don't need it to be. Just use it as a way to introduce yourself to what would be ahead of you. Like Tom was saying, just shut up and do what...

Waiting period for reconsideration of Application

If that's really true, it's a new thing. I had people in my class who applied five or six times and I don't think it took them three years. Was that from your recruiter?
  26. Morgan81

    Navy/Marine Rank Memorization

This'll help. Plus, grab the powerpoint over at usnavyocs.com here: http://www.usnavyocs.com/portal/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=1 It says Pensacola in a few spots and has the old chain of command, but it won't steer you wrong.

    Running at Newport

We were only able to wear a watch for the out-PFA, if you wanted to, but it really depends on your DI. Don't count on wearing it for any reason other then when you're section leader or if you end up being pres or vp.

A NY Times Reporter Tries to Understand OCS...

and shockingly, doesn't get it. Credit to someone over at usnavyocs.com for finding this.

    Does College Major matter?

First off try searching for your answers, they've probably been posted before. Secondly, the Navy isn't the Air Force in that it doesn't prefer tech degrees. I have a few engineers in my API class but a few English majors and the like. The answer is study what you like, if you hate math, don't...

    Newport guys: Electric Shaver?

I saw a bunch of people with them, and I'm pretty sure they are officially allowed too. Although the razor will give you a closer shave, if your a hairy bastard and get a five o'clock shadow at noon, you might want the electric shaver in your war locker to clean yourself up fast.

Every two weeks give or take.
  32. Morgan81

    ocs submission

Yeah, trouble is they become H-class heat shields fast.
  33. Morgan81

    February 2 OCS

In Newport, without access to a computer. You can survive without a car, it'll just suck a little more without it.
  34. Morgan81

    The Big 4 Flash cards

Yes, they do. And if ANYONE gets less than a 100 your class has issues.
  35. Morgan81

Being involved with sports important for OCS application? And other questions.

Everyone is different, but there's one way to find out. I didn't play any sports in college except intramural (beer league). As long as you aren't sedentary and can cite other leadership experience you should be good.
  36. Morgan81

    The Big 4 Flash cards

Not bad. A quick note, I noticed there were some AF and Army ranks on the first PPT. You won't need to know any of these. That and don't bother memorizing the discipline ditty. It'll be permanently engraved in your mind by Friday of Indoc week.
  37. Morgan81

    BAH Issue during API

I'm not 100% sure Ken, I would think that it should apply to you, but first things first, survive OCS, after that you'll have orders, so who knows if it'll apply to you or not.
  38. Morgan81

    Jan API starts...

I was IFS complete and reported December 4th and classed up the 14th. Hope you know how to find an apartment fast.
  39. Morgan81

    Blood Tests

They look for liver enzymes too. I only know, since I had to give blood like 15,000 times at OCS to clear something up.
  40. Morgan81

    BAH Issue during API

I'm posting this in the OCS forum since I think it only applies to recent OCS grads with 1390 designators. So far there's only been a few of us and we've all been OCSers but I could be wrong. Anyway, for all of those student naval aviators who just got there commission and who meet all of these...
  41. Morgan81

    February 2 OCS

Your cars will be fine, just make sure to lock them. And just seconding what Tom said, you will want to stay in this class so be in shape.

    RI OCS Info

It is the most relaxing part of the day, but it's still not relaxing. If your class was up to no good or if a DI had an axe to grind that day, good luck gettingto chow hall.
  43. Morgan81

    how many push-ups??

On all of the PRT I graded or was in, as soon as you hit 87 you took a knee.
  44. Morgan81

    RI OCS Info

Your DI has a thing for star-jumpers. Before yall classed up we did that for what seemed like 2 or 3 hours on a Saturday. I guess he was warming up with us.
  45. Morgan81

    Indoc PRT at OCS

Careful what you wish for...don't worry, you will. Humidity in P'cola. I can't imagine what this inferno is like in August.
  46. Morgan81

    Indoc PRT at OCS

Actually from what I heard from the P'Cola crowd in my class (feel free to correct me if I misheard), the number of people rolling is higher in Newport. Don't be that guy. PT your brains out.
  47. Morgan81

    Final Select!!

Good job guys. Good luck and kick ass at OCS.
  48. Morgan81

Updated list of things to bring?

Candios can pretty much wear anything under their sweats but as an OC I can't remember how many times I ghosted myself crab-walking or worse getting pants'd buddy bear-crawling or some other goofy exercise... point is, there is a VERY good chance of having what you're wearing being clear as day...
  49. Morgan81

    Chest Wall Deformities and Pilots

I think I knew a guy at OCS with that but I'm not sure. Only way to be 100% is to talk to an officer recruiter. Click this for some basic information but that's the best I can do. I'm sure someone else here will be more in the know, but it's something.
