Monkey Question?? and Advice on FORM 1

GTodd, I think you may be mistaken. A see saw is nothing like the rope and pulleys in this question. The way I see it is this, maybe I am wrong and we can debate about that as well. The monkey is neutrally balanced with the weight on the other side. If the monkey wants to clime up the rope he...

    Tattoo

I think you should ask your recruiter. Nobody here can give you as precise an answer your recruiter. I would guess that since the whole system is so backed up, and they are putting together a package for you, you must be in the clear. You will have to ask your recuiter though.

    Form 1 Monkey Question

Do you remember the theory that says for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction? If the monkey and the weight are the same weight then when the monkey tries to move up the rope he (or she) will exert more than its weight on the rope thus pulling the weight up and towards the...

One stupid incident destroys my chances?

I can't speak to what your chances are, but what is the worst they can say? No? It sucks to hear it but you will never know if you don't give it a try. The only thing worse than hearing no is knowing that you had to fill out all of the paperwork to hear it. I know I was told no the first time I...

    What to do!!!

I was or am prior service. Three years in the Army spent learning how to shoot down planes from the ground. They give you a waivor for the amount of years you have already spent. No I will not be turning 30 at OCS...soon after but not during.

Hey Navy101 Since we are in the same class. If you need to switch to NFO I would gladly take your SNA slot. You know just so you don't have to go home. Scott

    NFO Selection

I would say that you need to take the ASTB again and try to get your scores up. There are very few slots right now. It has been like that for some time. Shoot for 8s or 9s. also keep working on your GPA. I hear you about the Premed situation. What is your Major now? Keep looking around this site...

    IFS for NFO is TRUE!

Integer, I posed my question to Bryce for one reason only. He and I will be in the same OCS class together. I was not sure if this new information would apply to us with only three months to go or if it was for newly selected people. I have not heard any thing from my recruter about it and I...

    Life After NFO

Frumby I hear ya about the pregnant wife. My boy is due July 28th. Try the third trimester for hormonal ups and downs not to mention just the total uncomfortable state she will be in. God I can't wait to have my wife back. Try teaching a bunch of middle school and high school kids. There heads...

    (F-35) Joint Strike Fighter

Not to get into a philosophical debate over how the navy should spend its money but, (and there always is a but isn’t there?), how long can the navy project Americas strength and defend national interests if it can not fly it’s ailing aircraft off it’s shiny new boats? I feel there has to be a...

Future of NFO's in the Fleet

Boeing builds great bombers. B-17, B-29, B-57, B-1, B-2. They have not built very good fighters. even the P-24 didn't stay around very long as it was quickly out dated by newer technology. I say stick with what you know. Lockeed is a heck of a company and has built some great fighters.

    (F-35) Joint Strike Fighter

Wink, How much of the Navy's ability to buy and use their equipment is set by politics? I am sure Adm. Clark knows about the situation with the aging aircraft. Why in your opinion has the Dept. of the Navy been this tardy with replacing their fleet of air craft. When the Air Force needed a...

    P-3 status???

What exactly is the issue with the P-3 and maint.? Is power plant, avionics, or are the wings really falling off? Remember a few yeas ago, the c-141 that was being refuled on the ground and the wing broke off.

Future of NFO's in the Fleet

If you fry a computer with an electrical pulse which is what I am getting from you, you will also nock out the motors and electronics that control flight controls as well as engine controls. Pretty much what ever you are flying in becomes a large lawn dart if hit by EMP. From what I have heard...

Future of NFO's in the Fleet

I agree with wink. I don't know about the rest of you but it will be a long time before I get on a plane piloted only by computers. I don't care if deap blue is at the controles. Computers freeze. I also wouldn't get to upset about any changes that may or may not be coming down the tube. We are...

    medical background checks

If you lie on your medical forms you can find your self looking at UCMJ issues if they find out and want to be hard a$$es. Just keep that in mind when you make your decisions on what to include or not. When I went through the flight Phys. for the Marine application the flight doc told me he...

    Ribbons & Medals

Some of them will work. There is an address somewhere around here that will take you to where you can find out the order of precedence. And I belive you do have to bring them with you. They are part of your uniform and if you do not have them on you will be in affect out of uniform. Bad mojo.

    Cars

So how does this work? Are pilots the only ones driving fancy cars? What about FOs? Or are they reduced to driving wagons and mini vans? If so I might need to rethink this NFO thing. I just don't think I could drive another wagon.

    Pushups/ Situps Question

The correct resting position for the push up is up. Feet and hands are on the ground only. You can sag or push your but in the air but the knees can not touch. You can adjust your feet and hands but only one of those off of the ground at a time. So you can shake out an arm at a time. There is no...

ea6bflyr, That post was sarcastic in reference to the post just above it. "You don't want to spend 8 years as an NFO that is miserable just because you didn't wait 6 more months for that shot at an SNA position" If you look next to my name it says that I have been picked to do SNFO. I am...

    3.3 and higher only?

The Navy looks at applicants overall package. From what I have been told you can get a way with lower scores if you are, in general, very qualified. Say you have a lower GPA, if you have done a lot of leadership things or have a military background it might ballance out in their eyes. Correct...

    ASTB tomorrow!!!!!!!!

Michael, Try to relax before and during the test. Bringing nervous energy to the testing room will only cause you to make dumb mistakes. I am not sure how BDCP works except that you are accepted and then they pay you a monthly sum until you report to OCS. From what I have read here it is hard to get into. HELP!!!

The ASTB test is kind of like the ASVAB. It tests you on a lot of different things. They take your results and do some sort of magic wand thing and then they know what areas you will do well in. The reason you take the ASTB is because they can get an Officer Aptitude Rate or something like that...

    birthdays at ocs

On the subject of bad places to have a birthday. I turned 21 while I was deployed to Haiti. I think I was on patrol that day. It was a dry country for us, no drinking was permitted. If I remember correctly some one brought me an Oduals after we got back to our base in Cap Haitia.

You can always go in as NFO and then apply, with a slim chance, of transfering over to pilot. Just an idea. In the end though you are in the Navy or Air Force as an officer and you are in a plane. Hard decision think about it and why you want to be the millitary.

rayman, When I was in the Army (92-95) they made it very clear that we were all green. So who else has been "shot down" recently?

Oh ya, I was thinking that if you wanted to go with flyfast you could say your scar is a freekish birthmark and when they question your xray you could tell them you have been eating a lot of iron lately. You know spinach and asperagus.

So who else has been "shot down" recently?

Learn to write with the other hand. I used to do it when i was board in lectures. I was never able to write very well or fast but I could read it. Adapt and overcome. Your finals are about here but have you thought about getting one of those little tape recorders and recording lectures? Good Luck
