    OCS as a summer cruise?

Ever since I finished up NROTC, I felt that the Navy-types needed something else for their summer cruise. This is particularly true for the 1/c cruise. Time and time again I saw my friends go on vacations that were disguised as military training. They would go to a surface ship that would...

    "High Risk of Runway Collisions"

I was wondering what our airlines bubbas thought of this article and the issues. Though runway incursions are serious, the comments by the congressmen seem a bit like grandstanding. Comments? http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22115888/

    Vance/moody Bubbas Read!

And then there's the mighty RAG birds of the Hornet RAG. PTT....VOX....we wish. It's Hot Mike or nothing in 99% of the jets (one D has VOX). The switch is on the left side under the canopy rail. It's one of the first switches the RP gets good at finding without looking. Early on, you could...

    The TBS Buzzword Saga

    USAF or Naval Aviation?

I joined NROTC as a Navy option and stayed that way till halfway through my Junior year. I became interested in the Marines my sophomore year thanks to our motivated (and slightly crazy) MOI, good midshipmen, and great enlisted Marines in the MECEP program. The spirit and motivation of those...

    Tailhook?

We (the Marines) always joked in Meridian about how easy the navy guys had it. They knew they were going to fly hornets (except for the few prowler slots, but there were usually takers for those). Marines on the other hand kept the motivation up because most wanted Hornets or at least wanted...

Guys Who Reported to API Already IFS Complete

Great attitude. Guess the mantra is now Lead, Follow, or "Skip out when nobody's looking." No surprise which one you're choosing.

    Interesting Jet Noise Complaint

FLIGHT OF THE INTRUDER "We had a MiG after us. We did an engine shutdown to throw him off." "In the middle of combat? Whew. Cool move." "Cool as a jewel."

    Waivers for alcohol?

I received a Possession by a Minor and a Distribution to Minors charge (we were all under 21; funny how that works) during summer when I was in ROTC. I confessed all to the appropriate people and didn't really have any problems. Only recurring issue is that during both of my security...

    Lemoore house

I currently live with three other RAG studs in Hanford. Our property manager told us yesterday that the 4 bedroom house next door is opening up. The realty company is Realty World Sweeney Anderson and the property is Charlie Chambers Drive. Nice neighborhood and good location. I know that...

    Extra DLA

I still have the money sitting in my direct deposit account and I know that I am not authorized this money...so I guess I'll just wait for the the admin Marines and the system to catch up. I'm still hoping that the money gets taken out in monthly installments, almost like an interest free...

    Extra DLA

On my last PCS, I received two advanced DLA's. Being the honorable gentleman that I am, I called up MATSG back at Meridian and told them of the goof. They told me they would work on it and call me back. My question is this: will they take the money out of my pay in one large chunk or spread...

    iPod is totally worth it

Do you have an Ipod? If so, you can download "Music Rescue" onto your mac. Plug your ipod into the mac and it lets you choice any or all of your songs off your ipod to put on your computer. Very handy program. Might be a bit easier than going back and forth with a flash drive.

    COST OF TRAINING Naval Aviators?

I asked the Commodore of TW-1 about the cost to train us back in April. He said Advanced cost $750,000. Total cost from the beginning to winging cost $1.45 million. I'm pretty sure he did not include the RAG in that figure, so you can definitely add another couple hundred thousand. What...

    flight school timelines

In the year or so I've been in Meridian, I have not seen an O-1 winged. All O-2's. For the Marines, it's TBS. For the Navy, it was the long wait to start up API or move on to Primary. If the Navy have finally sped that up, then you will start seeing some O-1's finish up, if only by a couple...

    flight school timelines

Got winged in Meridian 30 Mar. Total time to train from first day of API: 2 Years, 2 Months. Including all the waiting and weather cancellations. Primary took me 10 months due to unlucky scheduling and airsickness issues. it is usually much shorter. Advanced took 1 year, 1 month.

    Ground MOS choices?

Tanks all the way if I went ground. Similar to air in that you're fighting a machine, except you get to control four of the great beasts. Not too many slots, but look into it.

    Airsick?

Exactly. i was told by our StuCon officer that the CO would prolly not recommend me for jets because of my airsickness; however, I would still be considered for jets by the powers-that-be based on my performance regardless of the recommendation. It would just diminish my chances unless they...

    Airsick?

I was extremely lucky...I was told that my vt-3 CO (F-16 driver) generally did not recommend cases of airsickness for jets. but as i got it under control by the end of Primary and I had the backing of my on-wing (a harrier pilot), he gave the recommendation. however, if I had been in vt-2 or...

    Airsick?

I was bad in primary...I mean I got sick almost every Fam hop, most of the PA hops, even as late as in the middle of a Breakup and Rendezvous in Forms (though the chili from Florala didn't help). I was lucky that my CO let me go Jets. But I've been fine here in Meridian. Only time I got sick...

    PRK experience?

I went from being -5.25 or worse in both eyes (for those who have never had eye problems, that basically means that you can't read the big E) to having 20/15 vision. surgery was a breeze and my eyes healed fine in no time. only suggestion is to continually use the wetting drops to keep your...

    Which school?

I'll have to agree with wrk...i'm from just a couple miles from the villanova campus. the girls i saw walking around were generally gorgeous. had some buddies who were ROTC there. they loved the unit and they loved the partying both on campus and out in town. philly is nearby which is another...

    PRK limits

I had -5.25 or worse in both eyes before surgery and 20/15 after. I was worried because when I got into ROTC back in 2000 the limit was -5.00. But it was changed shortly thereafter to -8.00. i had my surgery back in 2001 with no problems with the Navy. There should be no reason why you can't...
