    A Friendly Reminder.

Usually anything with at least two turbine engines in the civilian world has a V1/Vr/V2... other than that, even on a private multi-engine check ride for piston stuff the accelerate-stop is a big ticket item. The pilot was a retired ARNG CWO, some sources say a helo pilot with service in Vietnam

    A Friendly Reminder.

It was a Stinson 108... think it throws out around 165hp. The mixture handle was all the way rich in the video, not sure it would have saved the day...but leaned would probably have added about 10-20% more power. Not saying it happened here... but that particular Franklin engine was designed...

    ?'s about Primary and Pipeline

Just from a student perspective... I really enjoyed the AF IFS program. Most all of the IPs were former AETC instructors, the ones I had ranged from a former F-16 SQ/CC and patch wearer... to a Civilian CFI who had significant time competing with a Pitts in the IAC. It was very sad to see quite...

    EAA AirVenture Oshkosh

Met up with Hacker at Vance AFB a few years ago. He was kind enough to let me fly the T-38 sim for the day. At the time it was pretty eye opening. Just a sim, sure...but it was my first taste to the differences in military type training and civilian. Not that it really matters, but there's more...

    EAA AirVenture Oshkosh

Hardly anyone in the AF knows or cares what an L-39 is (or any warbird for that matter), I'm getting old...and the AF made a big push for CSOs/Navs in my particular OTS board - if I didn't take it, I would be too old by the next board. I got a 96 on the pilot portion of thr AFOQT, but was...

    EAA AirVenture Oshkosh

Long Story... basically it lead from flying some semi-unique seaplanes and bar tending at night. A former Navy Hornet guy was a regular customer.. and flew air shows with a CJ-6A Nanchang, he took me under his wing and taught me a lot about flying those type of aircraft, formation, and...

    EAA AirVenture Oshkosh

Indeed! I snapped a few pictures from last year... what's Oshkosh if you can't do a couple photo flights? I led a six ship into OSH with a Citation 650 (break at the purple dot!)... Where else can you fly a business jet in formation with a bunch of L-39s and MiG-17s... and then jump in an L-39...

advice for "Fallen Angel" to get commercial pilot job

The regional route really depends on your true end goal. If it's to fly for the majors, the regionals might be right for you. Before I went into the Air Force, I had a very nice job flying a Citation 650 and various other cool aircraft in cool capacities. Definitely recommend the corporate, part...

What is (in your opinion) the BEST fighter plane that has EVER served in the Navy / Marine Corps?

Interesting piece of Corsair History... The F4U-5 claimed the last prop fighter to prop fighter kills when FAH (Honduran Air Force) Major Soto Henriquez shot down one Cavalier P-51D (F-51?) Mustang and two FG-1D Corsairs of the FAS (El Salvador Air Force) during the 1969 Soccer War (or more...

AT-6 excluded from Light Attack Aircraft

In light of recent news, it will be interesting to see the AF's next step with the SuperT. They've proposed cutting five A-10 squadrons and placing a larger emphasis on multi-role platforms. Will the SuperT fill a CAS/ISR multi-role? Or will it go the way of the C-27J? Any word of the those...

flying on us air from dayton to philly on monday, 1/23

Hal, At your airline, do they give a PIC type to the FO? Definitely different from 121 and varying greatly, in our part 91 business jet operations, seat swapping is very common. Flying, for us, is usually seat dependent, but not always. It seems like it integrates the crew a good bit and keeps...

    Solo versus PIC

Yes it does. And Hal's right... I re-read a couple FAA counsel letters that say basically verbatim what Hal is saying... to include the SIC part (which I was wrong about). Here is one of those letters...in agreement with Hal: Dear Mr. Hicks: This office received a memorandum from the Helena...

    Solo versus PIC

Negative You can log whatever you want, but time towards a rating, civilian job, etc would only be valid under these circumstances: Civilian Total Time is either: A) Acting as PIC (i.e. Dual Given, Safety Pilot, Solo, PIC of the flight, etc) B) PIC - Physical, aircraft control manipulation...

    Pilot Extraordinaire: Bob Hoover

Had the pleasure of hearing him speak this past week at ICAS... telling those stories himself. What an amazing dude. The funny thing about it is.... If Mr. Hoover were in the military in this age, he would have lost his wings and otherwise been career-ruined for the things he did.

Blue Angels - Victims of Budget Cuts?

The Air Shows provide their hotel rooms and rental cars, IIRC. Most hotels include breakfast, lunch is generally provided by the show as well. There are a lot of items that are in the demo teams' Support manuals that 'saves' the Government money already. Not sure if their Per Diem is adjusted...

AT-6 excluded from Light Attack Aircraft

Not sure what the master plan truly is, but Hawker Beech outsources a lot of stuff nowadays... and quality has gone down the tubes. IIRC, They now manufacture most of their stuff out of Chihuahua, Mexico. The A-29 is planned to be manufactured in Jacksonville, FL... supposedly will create 1200...

Naval Aviation Legend CAPT Dale 'Snort' Snodgrass....

Hmm... Maybe... Are you from around that area? That was a "home town" show for the team. The jets were normally based there, now since have a new base in FL. The team name has also changed, is now the 'Black Diamond Jet Team'. Adding another MiG-17 (Lim-6) to the stable.

Seeking advice on that first handgun or next weapon purchase? Ask AW!

You'll definitely need a .308 lower for a .308 upper. Also, not all .308 uppers will fit all .308 lowers. You can mostly break it up into DPMS and Armalite lower/upper types. 308 lowers are kind of a different beast, as mentioned above there aren't any "mil-spec" parts technically... so...

By "Busted", I mean a letter on your certificate. A few guys I know, civilians, have been "busted" because of airspace restriction stuff.
