My FNAEB Experience (or How I Let My Personal Issues Get In The Way)

I figured I'd share my experience with you guys for two reasons: 1. I think the newbies can learn from it and maybe not make the same mistakes as I did if their personal life hits the fan a month after they hit the fleet. 2. If any of you guys' lives have gone to shit, you can realize that it...

The lifting of decorum standards has further implications apparently.

Didn't think about that aspect of it. Legal or not, I will agree that this Marine could have used much better judgement in his choice of wardrobe.

Is this different from a non military member doing the same scene while wearing a military uniform he bought somewhere? Food for thought.

    Advice for graduating mids

Speaking of Chiefs, the first thing my Mother (a retired Senior Chief) said to me after I got commissioned was "Listen to your fucking Chief, Ensign. Take what we say with a grain of salt, but it will be the truth. Trust, but verify. And listen to your fucking Chief... Sir." There was a bit of...

    Advice for graduating mids

Agree with the above. The thing that I'd pass on to every new ensign / graduating middie is don't forget how to have fun and pick your orders (regardless of community) based on what you want to do, not what you think big Navy is looking for. You'll be better off for it in the long run.

    REQUEST: Good aviation/military books

It's in another thread, but "With The Old Breed" has come highly recommended (apologies if its already in here). I also recommended "Churchill's Secret Agent" by Max & Linda Ciampoli. It details Mr. Ciampoli's exploits in the European Theater as a British agent, personally tasked by Mr. Churchill.

    e.b sledge..required reading

Read the book last fall. It was one of the best books I've read in a long while. I'd recommend it to anyone in the military or even thinking about joining. I followed it up with "Churchill's Secret Agent". Not quite as captivating as "With the Old Breed", but good none the less. It details the...

    T-6B NATOPS

Honestly, don't even worry about course rules. They'll teach you that during ground school. A couple hours of looking at the charts and a little chair flying is really all you need to get the rules down pat. Even with that, you'll be asses and elbows the first time you fly Course Rules. Enjoy...

    T-6B NATOPS

Don't worry about studying early. You won't understand NATOPS until they explain it to you. I refer again to my list of stuff to do while you wait to class up: eat, drink, sleep, workout, your girlfriend/wife, someone else's girlfriend/wife, Pensacola local, Admiral's...

FRDMM ONE RNAV ARRIVAL Washington National

Ok... so it's "FANNY" and it's the IAF for one of the El Paso Int'l approaches. What makes it even funnier for me is that my girlfriend is English, and to the English, a girl's fanny is in the front, not the back... http://map.aeroplanner.com/plates/FaaPlates_pdfs/00134HVDT26L.PDF

FRDMM ONE RNAV ARRIVAL Washington National

The best I've heard on the radio was a clearance from a cute sounding female controller. The clearance was "Proceed direct FAANY, cleared for the penetration at FAANY"...

That was Plebe Year for me. I was walking back to my room from class to enjoy an off period and finish up some last minute stuff for my next class. HOW TO BECOME A PILOT IN THE NAVY

Proceedings Takes a Look at the Culture of Naval Aviation

I too agree. A culture is what it is for a reason. If you try to change a culture, you end up changing the institution. Unfortunately, when you change the culture of a military, you will (even if inadvertently) change the way it selects its leadership, and the way it fights. I think that one of...

    Marine One weather divert

I don't know if I'd call a divert a "highly unusual" maneuver. I've diverted a few times and had a couple other flights where for one reason or another, we were going over our divert plan. Rather the divert than the botched landing attempt... at least this way the aircrew keeps the number of...

Maintainers and handlers; the men and women who keep them flying.

If I was in the jet, I was sitting in ECMO-2. I sat 2 or 3 the couple of times I flew with Peso at Red Flag, and that's definitely not me in ECMO-3. I know you weren't trying to beat me up... Just making a statement.

<--- Computer Science major. I got winged. An Aerospace engineer friend of mine didn't. My advice falls in line with what the others have said. As Phrog so aptly put it, I majored in CS for a reason. That reason: All of my friends were doing it. It turned out to be a good idea.

Another new set of Hookers inbound

I've had my last night trap. I'm somehow OK with that. Granted, I'm not a pilot, but there's something to be said about sitting in a jet while the guy to your right is trying to land a 40-some odd thousand pound jet on a boat. At night. Yeah... Congrats to all of you guys that qual'ed.

You have to swim for the PRT?
