Monster Marine OCS thread: stupid questions answered here!

Whats up cunningham. What everyone above has said is probably the route you'll want to take. My .02 is to continue strengthening your muscles particular in the legs, i.e. around the shins, ankles, calves, etc. Crossfit is an excellent way to prepare and to get you ready for the bursts of...

Yea i'm gonna have to go with radler on this one, i maybe washed mine once the entire time, pretty disgusting but got the job done, and i never got sick. The quigley is pretty nasty but you don't go through it that much, i honestly think the IMC is probably just as bad if not worse..well good...

definitely don't underestimate the academics, i for one underestimated the first two tests which were pretty easy (if i would've studied) i failed one and barely passed the other. They are big on academics now and have eased up on the PT, guess they're trying to make the course a little bit...

    Runners Knee

I got diagnosed with Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome (A.K.A. Runners knee) by medical at MCRD San Diego. THey said it was an overuse injury from the pounding endured at OCS. Thanks for the advice, i have about two weeks remaining in SD and will start a strict ice and bike regimen to get it...

www.quanticoboots.com is a good site i ordered my jungles from there. A good idea as well is to order a pair of desert bellevilles or bates lites and break them in before you go and when you get issued the bellevilles at OCS you can use those STRICTLY for inspections.

    Runners Knee

I got runners knee my LAST WEEK at OCS and since i've been back home i haven't been able to run at all. I'm a little nervous b/c the initial PFT at TBS is HUGE for getting classed up with Bravo Co. My final PFT at OCS was 295 but not running for a month i'm afraid is going to destroy my run...

for the winter your definitely going to want gortex boots for humps, field exercises, and any movements into the field for extended periods of time. HOWEVER, i still recommend the bates lites even tho its winter for any fartlek, e-course, crt, and any PT runs you come across b/c you won't be out...

headlamp is a must, honestly everything else not so much. However, boot socks are a good idea, and some bates lites are also a good idea b/c they aren't issued and they're freakin comfortable and light.

    Am I in trouble?

the bridge toll in coronado was removed a few years ago...but yes it SUCKED to have to buy a book or if i didn't know i had run out of tickets and had no money to drive all the way down the five then up through i.b. just to get home..thank god its gone.
  34. Trev82

    Am I in trouble?

Inside the application there will be an area in which you will HAVE to write a story re: the incident, where your going to want to explain in detail how the incident evolved and what you've learned and grown from the experience.
  35. Trev82

    Am I in trouble?

hahahaha! Steve, like rob said its a "total person" judgement when they evaluate you. They do look at that incident and will probably take a step back but i definitely doubt that single experience would disqualify you. The oso will probably need to get you a waiver, but if that gets approved...

slater first of all i wish you the best of luck, i can only imagine how frusturating your situation must be. Nfo/sna

The ground contract is more competitive than you think, if you apply for air and ground they don't simply hand you ground b/c its in your application. They're both extremely competitive and it also comes down once again to timing and the needs. Your also going to rank which one you want first...

    ASTB Test Results

As far as why do they select some ppl for pilot and others for NFO, its just the timing, the needs of the military, and probably other factors in your package as far as i know none of us could pinpoint why exactly they choose one person for pilot and the next for NFO...regardless of pilot or nfo...
  43. Trev82

    ASTB Test Results

well you said it yourself you missed the Marine Corps requirements by one which means you failed, achieve the minimum requirements and you PASS. The ASTB is taken if you want to go air, pilot or nfo, from there once you pass you can submit a packet for pilot and you can submit one for nfo you...
  44. Trev82

    Nfo/sna

I'm not sure how it works for PLC but for OCC when i applied i signed contracts and sent it packets for all 3....so yes you can choose to apply to just one, or all three. I gotta tell you though applying for all three looks better and helps your chances b/c when the board looks at your packet...
  45. Trev82

    ASTB Test Results

better luck next time, apparently the Marines are only grading your scores on pass/fail and not your actual scores so if you only missed by one then getting over that hump shouldn't be too difficult with just 4 hours of studying..instead of 3. Seriously though, take a few days tand really study...

    Occ196

MEPS was a long time ago for me i did that several years ago, but for the flight physical they perform the color blind test, the depth perception (which o sticks out among the others in that row), they do the pressure test (blow some air at your eye), they dialate your pupils, etc... um they had...
  49. Trev82

    Occ196

    Occ196

see thats what i don't like, you get selected your all joy, you make arrangements with your job, you inform your family of the fantastic life changing news, then you take the flight physical and boom you find out your not going. Keep in mind that is worst case scenario, you just tell your self...
