    Kit to bring

From what I saw, anything that isn't an electric is good to go. Mach 3=less time shaving, less chance of a blood shave.

    PLC Outlook

Crowbar's right. The only way to know is to apply. Also, if an OSO thinks your package is competitive, he'll let you know. Otherwise it's a big waste of his time. And if you don't get in? Apply again.

How to get into OCS? (Air)

Yeah, good ASTB score, good grades (yours are more than good enough), volunteer experience. But really, PT is huge in The Corps. Having a 300 on that app would be a big plus. Also, applying early for your class helps. At least for PLC it's a rolling acceptance process. Maybe a Lt. who went...

How to get into OCS? (Air)

From what I've learned the best thing you could do for your application is be a PT stud (this is especially relevant for OCC) and have good/great recommendations. Other than that, unfortunately, applying and holding your breath is part of the mind-screw of the process.

    Academics that hard at ocs?

There was one guy in my platoon who was an academic attrite. It happens, but the work isn't brain surgery. Staying awake during the class lectures is key. If you can do that, no problems.

    Just Applied to PLC...Question

I got in from a CC as well with a measly 245 PFT when I contracted. It really helps that you're applying for Juniors. I don't know about the rest of your package, but you should be fine.

    Good Enough For Ocs?

    PLC Questions

Does anybody know what we can do if we are growing out of the cammies we were issued at juniors? I was issued small regs and they fit fairly well at juniors. I've kept working out and they are getting damned snug now. Can we just exchange them at cash sales? At least three of the sets I have...

    OCS quotes

My all time favorite from formation outside Bobo involved a candidate plt Sgt who had trouble sounding off and got flustered easily in front of the platoon. His facing command was "Platoon, face me!"

That story is featured in Jack Rupert's "One of Us". I believe it was something he claims happened during his OCS class back in the early sixties.

    glasses during training

My company last summer didn't get the good old BCG's until week 4. At that point, some candidates had really messed up the glasses they had brought with them. The Marine Corps doesn't reimburse you for those. I'd bring and old pair if you can. I don't think BCG's were ever authorized for our...

New E-1 to E-6 Service Uniform

Personally, I'm glad the military dress uniforms aren't subject to popular fads. In the early nineties we might have had pegged trousers.

    personal info for 188 accepted

Shadow- I never recieved any of that gouge before I shipped. The only way to get it is from somebody who saved it after training. The Blue Monster is just the academic outline for all the classes at OCS. The candidate regs let you know all the minutia regarding daily life and regulations...

    personal info for 188 accepted

In those Blue Monsters...just learn your ELO's and your TLO's. The questions on the exams are reworded from those. Seeing as how your OSO's are giving out gouge, try and get yourself some candidate regs. That is the true Bible of OCS.

    2nd Lieutenants- VERY INTERESTING READ

Seriously...this was written by a Platoon Sergeant? I don't ever remember my staff being anywhere near this complimentary to our "friggin' nasty candidate bodies". This ode to the second lieutenant is way too nice. I guess I'm still waiting for the proverbial other shoe to drop like always...

    Getting dropped

My experience at juniors last summer was they didn't drop people who wanted to be there. If a candidate finished the event, no matter how nasty, he was allowed to stay. They graduated guys who's jackets were stuffed with chits. I guess the staff figured if you had that hard of a time at...

    Grades after acceptance

I was told that if you have one semester drop below a 2.0 you have to submit an explaination and may be disqualified for financial or tuition assistance. I was told that dropping a class and going below full-time is an absolute no go. I had to eat a sh!%y grade becasue of this.

Best part of the Fartlek: Getting halfway through the excercise set and the Sergeant Instructor takes off running. The squad finishes and sprints to catch up just as the SI hits the next station. Repeat until sick. Damn I miss it.

    MY chances

Roger that, PSno2. Maybe I'd sleep even better if my girlfriend woke up and pounded on my hatch screaming "Staff Sergeant, The time on deck is 0415!" and repeated every five minutes until lights. One thing that has definitely carried over from OCS is how much I love rack ops. Oh, and Bobo...

    MY chances

Speaking of nasty...any other candidates who trained this summer feeling a little nasty back on campus? The chow is so good, I have so much time to eat it, and my bed is so comfortable. OCS length and advice

Just search "bridge" in the OCS forum and you'll get more than a few hits that will help enlighten you. It's nothing more than a switchback pedestrian bridge over the train tracks on the way to (and from) the chow hall. It's de-motivating ability can't be understated and can only be...

    187 Supplies

You're wearing go-fasters for check in so you'll want some extra white socks. They get nasty and turn gray from the trails during PT as well. Don't be that candidate with black or green socks on with your go-fasters. Also, don't bring short ankle socks, guys were called "fairy candidates" for...

    Pushups at OCs

Another big one is push-pulls. You start with 12 or 15 pull-ups, then drop and do 35 push-ups. Then 10 pull-ups to 30 push-ups...8 pull-ups to 25 push-ups. It burns like hell. Also make sure your push-ups are sat, they should be able to make a fist on the deck and your chest should touch it...

    OCS quotes

I remember when kilo took off without the staff. They made the whole company get back in formation and unblouse our boots and strip off our blouses and covers. I thought it was because they were pissed, instead it was just a red flag. That poor candidate company commander...his a$$ got ripped.

    Injury Prevention

I would say the best advice for OCS would be proper preparation prior to shipping and drinking water. PT like it's your job before you go...it makes EVERYTHING easier for you. USMC Issue Desert Boots

When are you shipping Clux? The regs seem to be constantly changing. The OCS website is the most reliable source. I saw candidates pull Timberlands out of their bags as their "boots of choice", though none dared hump in them let alone wear them after improcessing. I went (1st increment this...

    USMC Issue Desert Boots

You can use pretty much any boot you bring for PT and timed events/humps. At 1st increment we were made to buy insoles with our small bag issue. They worked all right. 3 pairs of boots is a clutch buy, especially since inspections always seem to be just after something filthy like the combat...

    That freakin' bridge

    Life at OCS

I got close to 8 hours of sleep. If not 8 it was close to 7 (not including firewatch). I do hear that is a change from years past when you got messed with after lights out by the staff. If you take notes in class I found it helped with staying awake and knowledge retention. I didn't lose one...

    Life at OCS

It just seems like there's sleeping gas in the a/c systems. Your body hits that cold air...you sit down and...lights out. Last increment the a/c worked pretty well. It was only broken in Classroom 1 once or twice.

    Life at OCS

Unless you are going seniors...all the juniors get 8 hours per night not including fire watch. Yes you're tired, but it's not exactly zombie tired. You adjust by the third week and it's good to go. Class is a whole other story. They put sleeping gas in the a/c system in the classrooms...

1 week until Jrs!!!! The countdown has begun.

For those of you who are shipping tomorrow and worrying. If you want to be there and don't get NPQ'd you'll stay and graduate. There were some absolutley heinous PT scores and candidates who were allowed to stay...I'm talking about failing the initial PFT. They just told the Colonel they...

    OCS Packing List

I have access to a seabag even though I'm not prior enlisted (2 brothers who are Marines). Should I take that instead of a duffel or will I get singled out as a prior for having that kind of gear even though I'm a non-prior candidate? I think the last thing I want is extra attention.
