    Saluting

I was stashed in squadron for about 6 months. LT's and below tend not to salute each other. They all consider themselves JO's. I saluted this one LT I had met at the NEX one day and he gave me weird look and kinda laughed. I have no problem saluting, don't really understand the problem with...

    SCUBA question

I'll go diving. I'm NAUI certified, took the course in college. Haven't been since my certifican dive 2 years ago.

    I've never heard that one.

    Saluting

Except warrants! Question for you other priors... do any of you find yourselves forgetting to drop the salute first? For 10 years I saluted and waited for the officer to drop his salute first. Right after getting commissioned, I would have enlisted guys salute me and when I return the...

    WOW-This town sucks

I got my dive certification in college, but I'm afraid to go anymore really. The way things are going for me right now, I'd go diving and have an eardrum burst.

    Saluting

I knew someone would mention that, hater. I know a few LT's who used that line, that's where I heard it and thought it was kind of funny. When you have a group of guys who look lost like Fezz said they did, I don't think it would be humiliating at all. What is humiliating, is when a LT chews...

    Saluting

Fezz, I don't know what those E's were doing at the time, but there are situations where it's not appropriate to salute, or expect a salute. Check your Naval Officer's guide, it has a good section in there on courtesies (I know most guys probably just toss this book, but mine sits on the back...

    pistol quals

I was talking to a Marine Gysgt a few years ago who said that the Marines have a version of the choker whites, it's just one of those uniforms that is rarely worn. It came up when we were discussing the movie Major Payne when Damon Wayans is on a date and he's wearing the choker whites.

    pistol quals

I didn't say get drunk then go shoot. I said bribe him with booze or liquor. However, if you're not a good shot, there's nothing wrong with giving the rangemaster a few drinks beforehand.

    Latest wait time for API?

Are they making everyone do IFS out of Pensacola now? If that's the case, I don't really understand the reasoning behind that, unless the ROTC units are screwing it up too much. I remember hearing about some guy from Tulane who didn't finish IFS, but his report date came up, so he transferred...

    Latest wait time for API?

I guess so, I put the name of the LT in charge of flight management and it got edited. We'll just call him the LT, I'm sure everyone knows who we're talking about.
  13. T

    Latest wait time for API?

I know the LT mentioned one guy's ROTC unit giving him cost TAD orders to go back to the ROTC unit to do IFS, but I wouldn't count on that. If you have a place to stay at your old unit, they probably wouldn't have a problem with giving you no cost TAD orders back there. For those unfamiliar...

    Latest wait time for API?

Yeah sure, technically, you should always report in whites or dress blues. But before you jump to conclusions, like calling him a dirtbag, maybe you should ask him why he's in khakis. He may be in the same situation I was in. I reported in dress blues, on a Wednesday and was told there would...

    pistol quals

Even if you can't get enough for them to open the range, find yourself a rangemaster (usually an FC, GM or MA), bribe him with a case or two of beer or bottle of liquor, then go to some range out in town.

    Monday AM landfall?

For the guy stuck in Birmingham, you get per diem and malt for each day of travel time to cover food and lodging when you you PCS. If you go beyond that 4 days travel time though, they probably won't do anything for you. It sucks, but that's the way it works.

That's an awesome sight. Anyone use ArcGIS? I could probably put together a nice set of maps showing all the good boobie bars and such using those photos. Even put in information like cover charge, dancer with biggest boobs, and home address for you stalkers out there. And yeah, probably...

    Dla?

Okay, I looked up the JFTR to find the actual instruction to reference and I found I was wrong about the married people. Apparently married people get the DLA whether they move into govt housing or not, so I don't understand why PSD makes married people sign a form saying that they understand...
  24. T

    Dla?

Covered As far as the Marines getting the DLA and living in government quarters during API, I've tried to clarify this. It doesn't matter where you live during API because API is not a permanent duty station. But if they move into government housing during Primary, then they will lose that...
  25. T

    Dla?

That's one that I believe depends on the servicing PSD when you get to Oceana. If it's for a few weeks, you should be good, but check with them to get an actual time period. Most DK's know that having to take money away just to give it right back can screw something up and cause more work for...
  26. T

    Dla?

There's a difference between PCS and PDS. API is only 6 weeks and it's technically a temdu duty station. They screw with the accounting codes for some married guys, but for everyone else, it's a PCS to a TEMDU duty station. All the services use the same pay manuals, so we're all entitled to...
  27. T

    Dla?

As I said, it depends on where you live at your PDS (Permanent Duty Station) which is primary for pretty much everyone. If you live in government quarters (Q or Base Housing) when you arrive at your PDS, then you are NOT entitled to DLA at all. I'll use myself as an example to hopefully...
  28. T

    Dla?

You're not entitled to DLA if you live in government quarters at your permanent duty station. For instance, if you get advance DLA before going to API, you can live in the Q during API without having to repay the DLA, but if you live in the Q when you get to Primary, you'll have to repay it. A...

    Moving to P'Cola

I live in the Q at Corry. When you get here, talk to Mr Raspberry. Getting a room is at Corry is about timing. You just have to be patient and wait for someone to check out. People check in and out every week. Remember that you get TLE for 10 days, so you can stay at a hotel and get...

    Moving to P'Cola

I'm geo bach, so maybe if I were single, I'd feel differently. I don't know. Moneywise, I making some good money living in the Q.
  32. T

    Moving to P'Cola

Regardless, to each his own. Personally, 2 or 3 months isn't worth the hassle of getting an apartment and dealing with moving in and out. I'd rather just have the Navy store my stuff for that time and stay in the Q.
  33. T

    Moving to P'Cola

I'm not saying don't get an apartment or rent a room, I'm just saying that if you decide to live in the Q, it's not as bad as many claim and there is still money to be made living there. If you're married and going geo-bach, or you plan to go to Corpus or (God forbid) Vance or Moody, then...

    Moving to P'Cola

The Q rooms are nice. They're suites with a living room and a kitchenette. You also live next to the galley where you pay about $8 a day for meals, and you can request PMR which is $22 a day to pay for food. Don't worry about being isolated because it's not like everyone in your class lives...

how many FY04/03/02's left in A-pool?

There is a chip trail that they just put new chips on a few weeks ago, but last I heard they were having guys run the track. Regardless, my run times on the track and the trail have been the same, but I also suck at running. My friends tell me that there times are about 30 seconds slower on...

how many FY04/03/02's left in A-pool?

Good luck. So far only 1 out of 3 of my 04 buddies made it. There's another still in class. 2 of those guys had the same weighted average on the exams, but one guy had an outstanding high on the pfa and the other just had a good. They were both under the 42.5, but once the pfa was figured...

how many FY04/03/02's left in A-pool?

The way I understood it, if they didn't hit their attrition goal, then the standards for the 04's would be raised in primary, but last I heard, they only needed to attrite 11 more and there were still 4 or 5 04 classes going through.
  41. T

how many FY04/03/02's left in A-pool?

I understand the animosity, I just don't see the point in verbalizing it the way Venom did. And I agree with Zippy, if you guys were in my position, you'd be hoping not to be held to the same standards as well. If I have to pull a 42.5, I'll do it.
  42. T

how many FY04/03/02's left in A-pool?

I understand the reason for the 42.5 NSS. So I don't see the need to hold the 05 guys to it. As for guys like me, Paddle and a few others, we're being held up for some reason. Not only did I have to wait a year just to get to Pcola, I got hit with some NAMI whammy bull**** that's holding me...
  43. T

how many FY04/03/02's left in A-pool?

Damn Paddle, sorry to hear that. I hope they don't make you wait till my stragglin ass comes back in August. What sucks is that if they're waiting for all of us "stragglers" then I guess that means we'll be held to the 42.5 minimum NSS.

API issues cleared up by August?

I have some medical issues that won't be cleared up for about 3 or 4 months, so I think I'll end up being the last 04 guy. Paddle, are they gonna still hold you to the 04 scoring?

    Orders yet?

I haven't had the pleasure of standing the candy watch. I just can't believe that's an actual watch here. And no, the Florabama isn't open yet. In fact, there was a news story last week about the building being bulldozed. The Mullett Toss is happening this weekend though.
