How the Marines will affect your mentality

Agree 100% And just as a corrollary, if you are 100% into the "brainwashing" and "yut, err, oohrah, devil dog, motivator, nasty" type language all the damn time, you will not be the norm in the aviation community... go be a grunt if you want to get gay with that stuff.

    [GUN] Any suggestions?

.308 will be slightly cheaper ammo-wise, but ballistically, they are very similar. Rem 700 will do you well in either 308 or 30-06 and be a nice gun to keep forever. Winchester 70 is another (personally, I don't like the 70s ergos). If you're looking to spend a little less, but still have a...

    French unrest

    1) You're an idiot of the highest order 2) The rioters being Muslim have about as much bearing on the situation in France as the fact that the majority of rioters in LA were Christian. This is not a religious struggle... it's a class struggle. Maybe if you bothered to learn the backstory or...

    HARM shot

OK... seriously, everytime someone asks about a aircraft/system/whatever, you don't need to post whatever you find on fas.org. There are plenty of people here from each community who know more about said system than fas does. We all know how to use google (though sometimes I doubt it).

How is my aircraft picked for me?

Having never flown anything more than a Cessna or Cherokee prior to primary, I admit, I wanted jets based on the "cool" factors: go fast, drop bombs, pull g's, and go to the boat. Thus far, I've gotten to do all of that and have had a blast thankfully. But, I've always been curious as to what...

Galileo is intended to be non-encrypted (military-wise) and free for everyone (increased accuracy service available via upgrade). And since it uses far better clocks than the current gen GPS system, it will be FAR, FAR more accurate (4m regular, 1m upgraded commercial). Of course the US gov't...

GPS devices are almost all solid-state... they care little about shock and perform fine in temperature extremes. Even my hand held Garmin is rated for 6g's and temps from 5-158F and that thing was only $200 ish. The military seems to have this real aversion to utilizing GPS to the utmost...

And yes, NDB approaches are easy, but why does someone always have to come back with some "there I was in my 172, flying an NDB approach" in every IFR-related thread? And this is why they have GPS/INS.
