Worlds largest RC helicopter. Turbine powered AH-1 Cobra, it even has the familiar two blade flapping sound. Check out how high it climbs vertically way out of ground effect. Must be way overpowered. Features pyrotechnics, and is painted in the livery of the Army Aviation Heritage Foundation. The pilot is awesome. If I put that sort of effort into an RC aircraft I would have painted it in real Army livery. Maybe get some film work from it.

The startup is kind of interesting. Kind of looks like it's a true free-power turbine with a rotor brake. There didn't seem to be the lurch that you'd expect with a clutch. The whole thing is impressive.

That thing is pretty wild. It is amazing what they can do.

Got to finally go fly today and resolve what mode the AP needed to be in to receive GPSS. Now I can hold, hands off. Exciting! The bad news is there was a Black Friday sale at Spruce Aircraft and I need a new landing light. Time to keep the economy going.

While you are at it get an iPad mount for that blank space (and an iPad if you need one). It is a wonderful aviation tool!

The whole GPSS and AP HDG mode is counter intuitive at best! Took me a while to get it too!

It makes sense once you understand the background of what the GAD29B is doing, but the description in the G5 manual is opaque, at best. The Google helped with connecting the dots.

I have one, but it sits in my lap or in the other seat. It's a great tool, but I just don't "live in it" like other people do. I don't even have a Pro subscription because it's not that hard to see where I am on an approach. The RMI/HSI helps with that, immensely. I do miss the bigger screen that I'm accustomed to with the 530. But it's the plebeian life we live.

The economy is cruel.

I was down for a little over a month for surgery (stupid neck) but got in the air today before the stormy weather comes in. Nice to be flying again, but my ADS-B is killing me! Can’t get a clean report.

Your G5 HSI seems to be malfunctioning, or maybe it's a setting I'm not aware of. It seems to be displaying "VOR." Is that a new form of navigation? Or something not allowed under Part 23?

I say Fuck You ADS-B! After weeks of FAA wrangling (and they were nice), technician fumbling, and A&P shenanigans we have figured out why my system isn’t working. It appears my Trig transponder, a unit with a small control head and remote magic box, are using two types of software. This means it sends the appropriate code, but once the location information passes through the ADS-B unit (also a Trig) it all falls apart. Trig will fix the issue free of charge, but I had to pull both units and mail them off. Too bad, today was a beautiful day here in DC area and a flight would have been nice.

The UH-1M the AZ Chapter of the Army Aviation Heritage Foundation restored is now in place for the Phoenix Open.

This Mike model Gunship served in four different units in Vietnam. Shot down three times. No crew KIA. A lucky aircraft to be flying in combat. We painted it in the livery of the 116th Assault Helicopter Company ( gunship platoon callsign Stinger) of which our chapter has a few veterans and some who flew this aircraft. We are displaying the aircraft with 19 shot rocket pods and two M60s on bungees in the doors. It is a beautiful aircraft. The stage/platform was built by the promoters just for us. It is located outside the Brave Patriots Outpost which is a hospitality tent for military active, retirees and reserve, and first responders. Free food and drink!!! Also free admission to one of the largest sporting events world. Over half a million attendees over 4 days. The Phoenix Open is unique in all golf for it's parties and boisterous crowd. You golfers should take advantage of the free admission and hospitality event. Let me know if you will be there. I'll try to make that one of my "work days" at the aircraft.
