Attrite From OCS due to DNF on IST runs

I am currently in the student pool and going through outprocessing due to not completing either runs as a result of dehydration and a false concern on the second run in which I stopped to talk to the corpsman and he checked me out. I want to appeal this process and stay in OCS, I am physically capable of performing and was just insufficiently preparing myself and then scared myself into where I am now. How should I best explain my desire to stay to the XO and CO? Thank you for all help in advance.

You had your chances, sorry.

Talk to your class officer (or whoever runs student pool these days) and get the process started if it hasn't been yet. No one can really tell you how to explain why you want to stay. That's kinda on you. But if you know you're physically capable and can prove it, then do it when you get the chance. Best of luck

I'm simply telling them to get the process started. Sure the chances might be small, but if I've made it all the way to OCS and there's a way to appeal something, you bet I'm gonna try it if I can.

Sounds like the OPs recruiter sucked at their job. Maybe you should focus some of that energy on your own community to get them screen and prepare their applicants adequately.

How? Unless they’re in a paid status we can’t PT or PRT most of the shippers to OCS.

Being that officer Officer recruiters are URL (not my community) I would make the argument to please send better URL types to recruiting.

Seriously? Before I went to Marine OCS they wouldn’t even consider sending someone unless they’ve seen them run high first class PFT’s. Candidates still occasionally failed the intro PFT and got kicked to the curb, but it’s dumb to be surprised someone can’t run a short distance.

Grand, unless things have changed drastically since I left (doubtful) if you are attrited because of the IST, you cannot get another chance while you are there. You may however, go home, train, and apply for selection again (this time show up prepared).

They were cracking down on IST failures when I left and things were only getting more stringent when I commissioned. A large part of this is also safety; if you can't complete a 1.5 mile run you are just simply unsafe to participate in the rigorous program that is OCS. I hate running with every fiber of my being, and even more so after being injured for 6 months, but I can complete my 1.5. The IST is a baseline for you to improve on. With the deaths of recruits and the regular presence of ambulances throughout training countries at both Great Lakes and Newport, it is simply not worth the risk.

There have been folks who have been attrited due to PT failures and get another chance. You just have to prove you want it.

It was around 2010-11 when CNRC stopped the PRT requirement, mainly because people have been getting injured or worse... died from being PT'd by recruiters.

We've suggested to CNRC in order to improve the shipping process to force recruiters to administer PRTs for selectees 45 days from their OCS ship date. If they fail, they have a second chance at 30 days. If they fail that one, their OCS ship date is rolled back one more time. If they fail the third PRT, they're done/attrited.

We all know the military is growing and OCS accessions are going up, way up. The risk behind the PRT is that if someone rolls out, it forces CNRC to have to find someone willing to take that OCS spot.
