Hello all,
I was just curious if anyone knows if the airlines or their unions would hire and allow an A&P mechanic to work in a part time status. I'm a long time lurker, and currently a firefighter looking for a side job. Thanks in advance.

Most of the airlines use p/t mechanics, in particular at the out-stations where they rely upon contract maintenance for line maint. and troubleshooting/MELs.

If you live in a city served by an airline without a hub or company maintenance at the airport (across all airlines, that is a lot of cities) they use contract maintenance. Find out who has the contract and give them a call. Sometimes a single contractor will handle more than one carrier at that airport.

I don't know if this is "The Show" - but they are in the middle of a massive SPAM recruiting campaign!

Piedmont just announced a major pay increase along with other incentives...However, scheduling remains a sh*tshow and not much better than it was when I was there. They are also rotary-wing "friendly", and great place to get your 121 career jumpstarted. Upgrade is essentially NOW, if you're qualified (2500TT, 1000 on property). Great bunch of folks to work with when I was there, but the seniority demographics have changed dramatically with the introduction of flow to AA mainline...

Southern Air is part of the Atlas & Polar group of cargo airlines under the Atlas Holdings umbrella. Atlas Holdings and their pilots have been in contract negotiations for 6 or 7 years and their actual contract expired over 5 years ago. It is a running river of pilots with constant hiring just barely replacing the pilots leaving in droves. They have to offer jobs to two pilots for every one that actually shows up for class. Bottom feeder wages and work rules. Instead of actually negotiating, management takes everything to court to just bog down the process and gain more time before they actually finish the contract and have to pay industry average wages. Management continually tries to play all 3 pilot groups against each other. It's a shit storm to that everyone should steer well clear of.

Serious question, and just based on curiosity. I know that airline pilots are very aware of people that have crossed picket lines, and its something that you can't come back from. What is the view of folks that work at places like this that are working without a contract?
