Old S-2 & S-3 drivers still around??

YGBSM. I want to sit down with you and hear some stories over cocktails.
Yeah, Well, I'll be at the 'Hook in Sept. at Reno and I'll be wearin' my old orange flight suit that I can still get into...LOL...so hawk me and we'll chat ! Ooops, those look like Air Force "wings of lead" in your avatar....hell, you could still show up....be my guest...you'd love it for sure.

Well hell, let's do it again ! Are you one of those rare USAF'ers who got to Carrier Qual?? If so, you guys were great entertainment for us all.....especially the cat shots ! A cat shot can't be "simulated"....your very first one is always aboard ship. I'm serious about the 'Hook, let's do it....
 
I wish I had gotten the qual. I was a finalist for an exchange to a Hornet squadron, but the USAF cancelled the deal. Would have been great.

I'll see how 'Hook is set around my airshow schedule and will let you know if I can make it up..

As for the original question, I've got a friend that just checked out in the S-2 with Cal Fire (with turbine engines too). He showed me around the aircraft in April and it was spectacularly clean. Really nice.

Is he perhaps at the Columbia Air Attack base?? That's just down the road from me......Well, if you do airshows, you might know my good friend Captain Eddie K., he has the Fairey Firefly which will be at the Reno Air Races this year after rebuild following a gear collapse.

Not sure which fire attack base he will be at in 2019, but he was based in Grass Valley in 2018. He actually grew up in Columbia and has family there, so I wouldn't be surprised to see him at Columbia in the future. He flew the U-2 with me, and the F-16 before that. Good guy.

Yep, highest 74 time of anyone I think. He and I roomed together at Reno last year (air b&b), so I'm wondering if I know you or have met you...LOL

So, if you flew U-2's, do you know Pete Law? I met him years ago at Lockheed and see him every year at Reno. He's THE Thermo guru.

If so, it was in the Grand Sierra bar area. I was buying drinks like it was going out of style.

Pete Law: don't recall the name, but I seem to meet a ton of folks at Reno each year.
 
Yeah, that was it the "Gasser" bar. I'm sure we would recognize each other...LOL. Pete worked for Kelly and Ben and is now retired but everyone wants him to "tweak" their racers with his drag reducing "boil-off" systems, so he's at Reno every year and hardly comes outta the pits. Boy, does he have stories ! Is there a way for us to Private Message?? I'm too new to be aware if there is.
 
Capt Eddie is a trip. Flew with him in the Reserves. He was a whore for 74 time. Not surprised he is a top bagger of flight time. Last saw him and the firefly at Miramar maybe 10 years ago. He still keep it at Gillespie?

Yeah, buttt...It's been gone to Colorado for repairs due to collapsing gear strut on roll out at Gillespie air show 6 1/2 years ago. All fixed now and will return to Gillespie soon as Eddie ramps up his tail dragger time. I was at Miramar then also....great nostalgic time at the O Club Fri night....sigh !
 
I remember when he got the Firefly. He showed me a couple dozen photos of it in pieces at the start of the restoration. Knowing Eddie, I never, ever, thought he would see it through to the end. Glad I was wrong. It was absolutely beautiful.
 
Pretty sure we'll both be at Reno for the Air Races this year.....be there....we ain't gettin' any younger !
