I've been looking for the answer to this all over, but I cannot find it, so I thought I would ask it here: Right now, to prepare for the PFT (I still have 3 years of college) I'm running 2 miles at a 7:30 pace and then will decrease my mile time gradually with two mile runs at a faster pace. My question is, what is the average pace of the runs they have you do during OCS? I know they are around 2-3, maybe even 3-5 miles, but I do not know what the pace is that they run at.

Thanks.

My dude,

You're still a long way out, but good on you for working out. Much can change from our OCS experience by the time you arrive. For me, running was self paced outside the PFA. Don't suck and you'll be fine.

Ok thanks for the info. I know I'm a ways out from being eligible to attend OCS, and that it will change by the time I go, I just want to prepare myself the most I can, and I could not find any info about that.

Thanks.

I was there over winter and we shoveled snow more than we ran. But when we did, it was self-paced for 20-30 minutes on the track. If it was a 2-mile group run around base, we were separated into three groups based on our 1.5 mile run time: rabbits <11 min, turtles 11-12 min, and snails >12 min.

We did more bear crawling, push-ups, squats, star-jumpers, in and outs, leg lifts, and bicycle crunches than anything else. I recommend being able to do each of those continuously for 2 minutes a piece, with no breaks or water, not eating for 14 hours prior, and going on less than 4 hours of sleep for days.

OCS PT is a joke. The runs are self paced around a track. Any formation run will be done no faster than 9 minutes a mile, and no longer than 1.5 miles. Just pass the IST and you are physically fit to do OCS.

Thanks for the info, that is what I was looking for about the run times as a group. I talked to one guy before, and he said "yea it is like divided into 3 groups, 6 min, 7 min, 8 min mile paces" which I found a bit hard to believe. Those times seem more legitimate. I will also work on doing the type of HIIT stuff they have you do as well. Thanks for the info!

I'll be sure to be able to pass the PFA with ease in a Good-High/Excellent-Low before I start my application.

I haven't checked to see if anyone posted this, but I'm currently at OCS; coffee and donuts are secured at church now. You are only allowed to eat them if you are in CANDIO Phase. It was passed down from someone up the chain and reiterated by Regcom last week.

I can try to answer any other questions whenever I have access to Airwarriors.

What went on during the medical examination in the first week at ocs? Was it as extensive as the one done in meps?

Is it still worth going to church?

(You know, without factoring in the "not being sent to hell after you die" part)

Never understood the stupid obsession with the damn donuts at the church. They sucked anyways. Ok at best.
I mean, considering it was a chance to have a snack without class team breathing down your neck, and comparing the donuts to the majority of chow hall food, it doesn't really come as much of a surprise. Also they had coffee.

Do they still have a free phone to sign up and use? I mostly used church to rack out on the floor and call home. We also were lucky enough to be next to the library to use their chairs.

The timed run is 1 1/2 miles.
