Looking for a female perspective on OCS

Clearly there is a lack of education amongst you 'men' who don't seem to know very much about women and probably shouldn't be replying to a question on a thread asking about a female perspective. As tycho mentioned there are other reasons for being on birth control.

No worries about working me up, I was just making an observation...

Maybe most men don't know very much about women, but I'm pretty sure this topic was covered in sex ed... Hey maybe you all went to private school?

And for anyone that actually does want to know (I guess any women checking this in the future unless all you men want to take up birth control), you do need to bring a prescription as well.
 
I was not at OCS but in the building next door (Nimitz was off limits ;) ). The program was 2 weeks and on day 1 we were told to get any prescriptions together and go to medical with them. Our welcome letter/packing list also mentioned bringing at least enough for a week. Not being on anything this didn't affect me and so take my information with a grain of salt.

Now that you have been warned that I am an engineer and NOT a doctor: For someone who will be at OTCN for considerably longer than 2 weeks, have you talked with your gynecologist about other forms of BC that don't require the same level of commitment as the pill? The depo shot, mirena, and nuvaring all require much less of a daily commitment that might get forgotten during the 'joy' that is OCS. (bonus to several of them is that you stop getting your period while on them.) I know that even during my 2 week program I would NOT have wanted to deal with taking a pill at the same time each day. Heck, I do NFP and totally gave up trying to chart my BBT for that time since I couldn't reliably get adequate sleep before a consistent wake up time! :)
 
Does women have to get paps at the physical in the beginning of OCS? Or is the physical more like the one at MEPS?

My recruiter asked when my last pap was and if it was normal. Any female that's sexually active should have a pap anually. Any female over the age of 25 should also be getting paps regularly.
Further, any female over 35 should have a mammogram and supply your OR with all labs & results!!!
Not a dr. but very well aware of my health and wellness required checkups!!
 
I understand, thanks. I was just curious about the physical at OCS. You know figuring out whether to make my regular appointments or if there is no point because it'll be done there.
 
No. No pap at OCS. There is barely any physical done there. It all depends on your designator. You have to have a pap done before you report to OCS (within the last two years). It's one of the requirements for med cleared before your FS letter is issued out.
 
While we're on the topic of birth control, if you don't want to have kids, then I highly recommend getting a vasectomy.

Seriously though, I've never been with a lady who didn't appreciate the bonus protection. And for the ladies going steady who take birth control medicine for only the birth control effects and not stuff like fewer/lighter periods can get off of them in most cases. That stuff can be harder on your spouse than you might think.
