Final Select Purgatory

Purgatory? That sums it up well, although I feel like I'm still in the Inferno. I was Pro-Rec for SWO back in July. To the best of my knowledge, I have completed everything (NASIS, NAMI, MEPS, paperwork, etc) and I am still waiting. My favorite part is that today my OR decided not to deal with me anymore and delegated me to one of her staffers instead. I'm waiting on my FINSEL and I believe (although I've been told by two people two conflicting reports) I need to speak with an investigator to complete my background check.

I figured six months would be the approximate wait time for Pro-Rec to FINSEL. Anyone have any information to verify this wait time? OR told me it was because of the 2014 budget not passing.

I'm in the same boat with you, although my OR sounds like he's better than yours, as he's been really good about keeping my updated and staying on top of things personally. I was pro-rec in July for SWO as well and have had all my docs in for quite some time now. I'm just finally seeing some movement with the FINSEL in that it's been generated and sent to the PM for signature, so I'm optimistic it'll be on my OR's desk soon.

Now I'm no expert so take it with a grain of salt, but everybody that I've talked to, including my OR, says that your background investigation only needs to be OPENED, and it's unlikely you will be speaking with an investigator before you head to OCS.

How do you know your final select is being generated? My command got a vague email back from Mr. Williams saying I was select ready, to hold me on station and it was pending quotas/ funding... I'm not sure what to make of that. Since I'm in the LCS program and they need my replacement ASAP they are trying to get me gone

There's a system that my OR checks routinely that shows my status. For quite some time it was just "awaiting review by program manager" but as of Friday changed to "finsel sent to pm for signature."

I'm sure it's a bit different for you since you're going through your command and not a recruiter. Sounds like they're just telling you that everything is good to go on your end and you're just waiting on them to put you in a class.

the status of "FS sent to PM for signature" is just a status in the computer, it could be days, weeks, or months before anything is generated, but in your case you are age critical so you should be more of the days or weeks.

Could you shed any light on what they told me? or is that just an arbitrary thing? I know I have an age waiver as well but does that do anything to help bump my date up?

Hey mate. Glad to hear that there is movement afoot on your end from your OR and the higher ups. Hope you get that letter ASAP!
Did your OR do/tell anything for you or simply just kept you in the loop? I figured a background investigation would be happening as I remember my older brother having to interview with an investigator before heading to Parris Island (man, that was eight years ago...holy crap).

He's kept me in the loop but he's been personally involved in the process from day one, I've never spoken to anyone but him and he continues to check my status daily. As the recruiter there's only so much he can do but I get the sense that he's been doing all he can for me.

As far as the investigation goes, I'm simply going off what other OC's that have gone through recently have told me.

Sounds like since you are SWO they are trying to figure out if you will be FY14 or FY15, from what some other people have been told, and bumped it sounds like FY14 is full so they might just be trying to figure out where they can fit you, that is much higher than Mr. Williams.

I wouldn't tell your command this but it is quite possible you could be a short notice transfer as several AD guys here have had not much notice, at least not enough to get a replacement through school for LCS specific things.

Yeah once they found out I was PROREC they sent me TAD to fill a gapped billet that I havent even made it through for the LCS specific. I been trying to plan but it feels like for the active guys that its just boom heres your final select and orders with little time for us to plan.

Is any other active duty member from the Pro select group in December for pilot still waiting on their final letter and class date? I am trying to get a time frame for when mine might come bc my wife is expecting soon.

From the sound of things and speaking with the commander, looks as if the FY14 quotas are full. Meaning the next possible time would be June/July FY15.

Let me know if I'm mistaking

Congrats on the baby.

I thought that was just for SWO is it the same for NFO and pilot?
