FY14 STA-21 Applicants

Jeremy Springston

FY14 CEC Option
Anyone else going to put in for CIPP if they don't get selected? Anyone got opinions on the program?

I applied for and received a quota for 2015 earlier this year. If I were your CCC, I would highly recommend applying with the goal of getting into OCS as a possible alternative to STA-21. If you have any questions about the application process, don't hesitate to let me know and I'll help however I can.

No CIPP for this guy. Being active duty is the only thing that really keeps me in check. In order to keep on chuggin, I have to be challenged with the daily competition of fast-paced military lifestyle. If I take a break I may loose my momentum.

Got three apps pending ... have one more to submit ... have to get those things in early ... one of my lessons learned from last year .... then call and call for an early admission decision ... if they dont want to help then you can contact the unit LT and he or she can usually help the push ...

Good stuff, I'm starting my applications now-- ALongo, did you apply only to the three within your STA-21 app or did you have a fourth backup; does anyone think that is necessary?

Also, who knows approximately what week the results usually role out-- I saw last years were out the LAST week of October. Seems so far away!!!

hahahahaha. I think we overanalyzed the crap out of this question last year. This all matters on how much paperwork the Admiral has on his desk. The results are usually on his desk early mid October but it does take a while for approval of the message.

As for the college thing, I only applied to UT and Texas A&M last year and was accepted to both. This year I threw in a couple extra schools just in case I dont get so lucky this time around. It all depends on the quotas that the school is trying to fill and how well you can fill their pre-reqs. If all else fails and you get selected you could always apply to one of the shoe in schools like ODU. I've heard that the schools that we put on our applications dont really matter much because there are so few selectees. I think as long as you can get admitted to one of the NROTC affiliated schools as required by your particular program, you should be good to go.

How are you going to take the classes if you are accepted? Are you stationed in Texas? I wonder if OCS will accept BSAT degrees from colleges that offers online classes?(i.e Thomas Edison State College).

For STA-21, you do not have to be stationed where you attend college because orders will be cut for you to PCS there.... The NROTC unit would be your new PDS.

I see. But if you did not get selected and register for the school. Wouldn't it be a waste of money? ($75 per school).

ETT, yes... but i prefer to consider it a "hopeful" investment = ) vice a waste of money. If i am not mistaking, one of the fees might be reimbursed (not 100% on that, though). Personally, I don't mind paying any number of application fees (even if they were to be non-reimbursable) due to the return on investment, which is $10,000/year towards education as well as a full time pay check during college AND a guaranteed "job offer" upon graduation.

Im almost $200 in the hole on the applications alone. And that's not including official college and HS transcripts for each school. Like Liz said, its all worth it in my eyes if everything goes as planned ;-).

The college admission process is a pain in my rear just like it was last year. I just got off the phone with all the schools I have applications in for and asked them for an expedited admission decision. ASU was very kind and understanding and said they would get on it right away. I got the run around with UT and UF were just a bunch of a-holes. I feel like the first impression I get from their admissions people is how I will look at their school from here on out. ASU tends to have my vote right now. Anyone else having any headaches with schools??
