Also for the Military Traveler -look into the AMEX Platinum. The $450 annual fee is waived for active duty (you have to ask for it). The travel benefits are pretty good. Access to most airline clubs, upgrades, concierge, $200 airline credit, etc. It's a great deal for frequent travelers. I just got mine so ill report how it works out...

The member benefits are at https://www304.americanexpress.com/...213&psboth=CCSG_Google_CH_Platinum_Exact&ti=0

Are you sure they waive the annual fee for the life of the card, or is it just the first year? If this is for the life of the card, then this is an INCREDIBLE deal. If you travel enough the $450/yr is actually worth it, but if AMEX is waiving it--OMG!

Life of the card. Just got one and have been rocking the benefits. Buddy has been an Amex gold cardholder for 8 years and they gave him a free platinum and payed him back for 8 years of membership fees.

Make sure you sign up for airline reimbursement and the Priority Pass. Free booze and food for all your travels!

They refunded close to 14 years worth of fees. I couldn't believe it. Amazing program. Did this last year right before deployment.

My be able to get it delivered straight to an APO. If you're forwarding mail, you'll have to have it delivered stateside, then repackaged and mailed to you. USPS does not auto-forward credit cards.

Have the AMEX Platinum for awhile now. Of course, as a retired reservist I paid the $450 and it has been worth it for me. For you guys, free, it is a no brainer. Great program benefits. Priority access is very good. Also sign up for Global Access through AMEX. That is the Immigration/State Department, or whatever, program that gets you past most immigration and customs on return to the US. Just go to a kiosk and swipe.

And once you have Global Entry (CBP), you're in the Pre Check system as well (TSA). Unfortunately you can't use Pre Check for International travel. The GE application is very similar to an SF 86, so you need your addresses for the last 5 yrs handy, and there is an in-person interview after you get conditionally approved. Like Wink said, AMEX Plat (dunno about gold) will reimburse the $100 fee.

Would anyone who has taken advantage of this offer have a point of contact, a specific phone number, or a title for what they are calling the program? I just got off of the phone with Amex and all of the agents weren't all that helpful and I ran out of time. Thanks

Do they want a copy of your CAC card? How do they verify eligibility?

FWIW, any military member with a CAC card can use the TSA PreCheck lanes are participating airports. They scan your CAC card to verify DEERS.

However, I would still get the Global Entry. You avoid the customs lines when clearing customs in the USA and instead go to a kiosk.

At what airports? TSA only lists six that are participating right now in PreCheck with CAC cards:

  • Charlotte Douglas, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta, Honolulu International, Reagan, SEATAC and Dulles.

Have you had luck in other airports?

I thought I prefixed with "participating airports" if not, my apologies.
