There was absolutely nothing in NATOPS concerning the bunks, at least not through 1996 when I last had the manual. It was something the pilots and FEs would always say but it was never there. Wishful thinking?

The only thing is that they're referred to as the Pilot and FE racks in NATOPS, but doesn't say it's only for them. Twisting of NATOPS verbage? That would never happen.

Four pilot flights suck for rack rationing, however I found the galley seats to be just as effective, assuming the IFT and someone else hadn't already occupied them. The worst is when you're at max capacity and full of cargo, then space is really limited.

Being qualified isn't license to be an azzhole to your peer JO's and your crew. I wouldn't tell you to get out of 3p's rack. I'd just let them put you on the "please and thank you" program ( as in "3p, my I please be granted search power to drop a buoy?", "thank you") until your attitude improved. It might take an ONSTA or two but eventually we'd all be one happy family ;)

This has nothing to do with being a dick to those who are unqualified. I'm just saying if there's no legit crew rest need, then there's no reason a tube rat shouldn't be able to use it. It just pisses me off the sense of entitlement I've seen about shit like this, and a lot of it I've seen comes from 3Ps who don't even know what a bravo pattern looks like.

And you don't have a clue what his parameters are coming off the 180? Whats your point? Tube rats can sleep at their station when things aren't busy. That's not an option for the Pilots and FEs.

Well we can sleep at our station, but I'd hate for something bad to happen...:)

Never give a NATOPS Check without it!

The worst part about it is admitting to yourself that you are now part of the problem.

The VP community has actually NATOPS check cards??? You guys have way too much free time on your hands!!!

It's easy, man. Just allow your mission systems to degrade into obsolesence and become tactically irrelevant. Really frees up the schedule.

Or, it did until they started putting 12 hinges in a squadron. . .FML. . .

I've never quite figured out why since they also have all the other paperwork and check ride grade cards, etc in their jackets like the rest of the world. They dont get a PPC card or any other designation qual on a pocket sized piece of paper, so why an ANI/NI card? I can't imagine a situation where you'd have to whip this guy out. VP guys, whats the deal?

Then why would you need to use it?

Just institutional inertia . . . that's all.
I have this image of the NI showing up the brief like an FBI agent and whipping out his flip wallet to ensure that things are "going to be nice and legal."

Or another image of VP guys trying to one up each other on NATOPS trivia at the bar until someone settles the argument by dropping his pocket blue card.

I can't remember, is the blue card even signed by the CO? If not, isn't it just a card certifying that you survived a FNET evaluator (you like that, I even used the term "FNET". Yes, I speak some VP).

If I recall correctly, I think I got a pocket winging certificate out of the HTs and my alma mater gave me a pocket diploma. The pocket diploma was kind of cool because it was actually laminated and didn't look like something I could make at home.
