I'm a 4/c Marine Option Mid trying to get the air guarantee this year so I need to be submitting my package here in the next couple of months so the astb is coming up fast. I'm a flight operations major getting ready to solo here in the next week or two, how much will being around aviation for my major help me on the test?

Having general knowledge will help you in the nautical section. You will probably know the answer to one or two questions that someone not immersed in aviation would not know, such as runway lighting ect. (all of which can be learned from the gouge but some people just forget). Bottom line though you still need to study aviation knowledge. There is bound to be stuff you do not know. Good luck.

So I just took astb form 3 this morning. IMHO I think it was a lot easier than form 5. I took form 5 about 2 years ago back in 09. Then again it might be because I actually studied well this time around. My books materials I have are:
Arco Book, Barron's Book, ASTB test prep, Atrickpay study guide, marine aviation guide book handout, Learning Express practice book, and some small sample tests I found online.

My break down:

Math: started off easy then the harder questions started to appear. I think the best thing to do is to move on and comeback to the question if it is too difficult since you are pressed for time. Atrickpay's study guide, Arco's and Barron's book were pretty useful too. But some questions were NOT IN ANY of my review materials. Whatever materials you can get on MATH just study it. You will be well prepared.

Reading Comprehension: I found this part a little tough because a lot of the answer either sounded right or all were wrong. I remembered that every answers are based on the paragraph itself and nothing else. I also found myself in the beginning thinking about some of the math questions i might have missed or didnt mark. the only thing you can do from here is move on. Only way to prepare for this section is just too read actively...newspapers, books, magazines, etc.

Mechanical: I was a bit worried going into this section because i was trying to remember all the formulas i would need for the calculations. But then i also remembered that this part has 3 answers to choose from. If you use the process of elimination for one answer then that leaves you with a 50/50 chance. Also if you do the calculations right for the pulleys or how much force is needed questions then the answer will appear. Some of it is also common sense ( asking which way will one turn if the other turns counterclockwise).

Spatial App: Its true what they say...no matter how many practice tests you do, it will not compare to the ones on the test. A lot of the pictures were views i've never actually seen. But still do as many practice questions as you can just so you become familiar with the views.

Aviation and Nautical: Atrickpay's study guide came very handy in this one. I cannot emphasize how many times you must review this study guide. It is a lot of material but it will pay off. And it's true what they say, this section is the most easiest section to do well on.

Aviation Supplemental test: A lot reading in this part. Kinda difficult because some questions i couldnt really figure out. Basically just a mix up of everything. By this time you might be a little drained as I was.

I'll know my scores by the end of this week or beginning of next week.

Good day,

I'll be taking the ASTB within the next two months, where can I get the Atrickpay study guide?

You should feel lucky if you get form 3 as it is by far the easiest form of the test. I would say 4 is the hardest. You can get the Atrickpay study guide on here just search for it. It is all over the place, I remember I had to pick it up earlier in the year.

For math be able to do equations where they add additional people in later to do a job such as this: It takes 3 workers 45 minutes to move 2 piles of rocks. If a fourth person joins halfway through, how long will it take them to move 4 piles of rocks? (I still never sat down and figured out how to do this problem mathematically) however on the test I used common sense and was able to guess it correctly. Aviation supplemental section is almost all aviation knowledge again so it should double your importance on studying that knowledge. IT COMES IN HANDY!

As you read a math problem immediately start sketching whats going on.

Here you have two planes going the same speed at a sixty degree angle creating two legs of an equilateral triangle (3 equal sides, 3 equal angles of 60 degrees), so their total distance apart will be the third leg of the triangle which is equal to the other two legs. Which means each hornet traveled 1200 miles traveling 500 mph. time = distance/speed

Can someone email me this study guide?

Hello Robby,

Questions and Request! Just trying to get my information in check. As I do my research online and talk to recruiters I keep receiving two sides of the 2 officer interview requirements. Receiving a second opinion arises curiosity and questions. Does the officer interviewing you have to have some sort of relation to you? Does he or she have to be a friend, acquaintance, or family member? Does it matter what branch of military as long as he or she is ranked O-4 or better? This maybe an obstacle I'll face after the ASTB so I want to be well and duly prepared.

To my request! Would you be able to send the atrickpays ASTB study guide and any ASTB practice test you may possess. Also, do you have any other reliable, effective resources I can look into to be competitive. Right now I am using the following books; Cliffnotes: Officer Candidate Tests and ASVAB/ASTB for dummies. When I first started with this I was using Thompson Flight Aptitude Tests which is an Arco book. I heard mixed reviews and horror stories about the Arco books, so I decided to pursue a more reliable resource.

Any insight or study references you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Best wishes with the new year!
