FY12 STA-21 Applicants

OC/EMC

I agree with you 100% OC/EMC... It's trying to prove that to my Chain of Command as I don't have that in writing. My CO is happy to sign this but won't until I prove him I don't need a waiver. Documentation on this stinks!

Cheese and Rice! Why does that guy need something that NETC is not asking for, wow. See, this is why I left the nuclear community! OK, sorry about that. One of two choices:

Either remove the blurb about pilot and nuke officer from your statement
OR
Contact Ed Stratten(SP?) in P-cola and tell him your situation. He should be able to clear things up although I doubt he will put anything in writing about this as it is pretty silly, IMHO. You may need to call him while you are standing next to your CO and then give the phone to your CO so he can hear it from the horse's mouth.

The hardest part about trying to become an officer is dealing with other officers.

Good Luck. I hope you make it into the best program in the Navy.

QUESTION SPECIFICALLY: Do I need to submit an age waiver with the package based on my anticipated grad date or can I submit one when I'm turning 27?

Age waivers for CORE option selectees to age 29 are automatic, granted you can graduate and are physically qualified for commissioning prior to your 29th bday.

Meaning the specific "form" is not something you'll need to worry about. The folks in pensacola will be able to determine based off of your general information whether or not you'll need it

--strongly suggest bouncing this off of p-cola and Straten if policies have changed

I know of less than a handful;

HOWEVER, their packages were stellar and none were married or had any children. IF you're shit hot, go for it

Its feasible to complete an entire degree in under 36 months, but NOT recommended.

My advice: think about attempting the required Calculus and Physics if those are your strong points, due to the fact that they're freshmen "weed-out" courses. If you're not ready to jump right into those, then take some sort of pre-cal. REASON: Unless you plan on Engineering, these will most likely be about as difficult as it gets - and that's not saying much. And BOOST is gone, so college prep is on you

Hope this helps and Good Luck

thank you that actually helps a lot. I won't be able to apply until next year so i'm going to take as many online classes as i can. hopefully including calculus and physics. Another question real quick do you know if any majors are 'off limits' or not promitted? thank you again.

FWIW- I had 3 kids and a wife when I was accepted, and I had only 1 NPACE course done.

My record at sea, duties, evals, endorsements, etc got me selected.

Just reading that let me exhale for a second. FY12 is my husband's second application cycle.

I'm curious, are there any rumors at this point what the projected applicant turn out is for FY12 and how large (or small) the acceptance numbers are going to be this time around? My husband's ship has almost three times as many hopefuls as last year. He was also ranked #1 of the 6 applicants of his command by the CO and two others were accepted. So, just as an FYI, that doesn't seem to hold a lot of weight overall, selection wise. One of those accepted, was her fifth time applying for Oceanography. They say the 5th time's the charm and I suppose it helped that Oceanography was hurting for applicants.

Any rumor mill stuff helped pass the time last year, just from an observation stand point, that is. Facts are more appreciated though LOL!

Any and all majors are good to go. Although they do emphasize the pursuit of technical majors.

Selecting a field that will do something for you as a civilian is always a good way to go

That's awesome, but how many other folks do you know of like you?

I also have 3 kids and wife

I wasn't the only one. Maybe the only one with 3 kids that I know of, but not the only one with a family and no or very few credits.

I now have 4 kids with a 5th on the way. ;)

I am in a similar situation. Your request for an age waiver needs to be mentioned in your personal statement and your CO's endorsement. Below is a section of the email from Mr. Paros, the selections coordinator regarding this issue.

"Age waivers are requested in your Personal Statement and your CO will have to recommend approval of the waiver in his/her First Endorsement. When we receive the application and determine how many transferable credits you have and if you have the time to complete your degree requirements prior to 29th birth date, we will add your name to the SPREADSHEET which we will submit to the Aviation Community Manager (PERS-435A) for approval."

I hope this helps.

that inspires me a lot to see that you can make it even with a family. i just had my first son while i am on deployment right now. :)

yeah but given the time and energy it takes to put together a good package i'm glad that you can accomplish it with a family is what i was meaning.
