Navy Working Uniform Type II and III - finally something sailors can wear....

Shut up woman... get on my horse.

maybe they could use some synergy (to use a buzzword) and just adapt an already existing uniform, like the MARPAT or NWU II? Take the eagle, globe, and anchor embroidery off the pocket, and maybe the micro-eagle, globe, and anchors out of the fabric, replace them with little Navy emblems, and voila! Desert uniform. Or adopt the NWU II.

Phrog Im sure some O-3 or O-4 on the admirals staff brought this up and he was promptly dismissed... Makes too much sense, saves too much money.

I've tried so hard to get an orange flightsuit, but with no joy. My Skipper has one that he wears every Halloween.

You mean like these?? I found this along with some other jackets and coveralls when I helped my dad empty out an old storage shed; my grandfather flew C-123s in the AF back in the day. It's still in remarkably good condition for its age, no?

Doubt I'd sell it since I only found one like it (sentimental and all). Also I quite like the Halloween thing lol. My dad said theres a couple more places at the grandparent's house that we can check for more goodies like this; if I end up finding another I'd start entertaining offers :p.

What was this orange bag used for anyways?

The resident old guys can comment better than I can, but I've seen videos from the early to mid 60s were all the flightcrew were wearing it. I think it went by the wayside during Vietnam when being hidden in the jungle took precedence over being seen in the water.

Test guys used to wear it to, either due to the higher likelihood for a SAR or jsut to be different.

Oh, and an F-14 squadron wore it as their squadron flightsuit.

Whatever, send it to me, I might actually get to wear it. Lord knows the Sergeant Majors of the USMC would explode at the mere sight of a Marine wearing an orange bag.

They're already about to explode on you for saying "Sergeant Majors" instead of "Sergeants Major." :icon_wink

I noticed that too... it's as if Pags deliberately got it wrong and KBay deliberately ignored the mistake :)

I'd answer that, but I've got to go iron my flight suit and spit-shine my desert flight boots so that I'm "squared away."

VA-94 FJ-4.jpg* = t*e letter between G and I is inop on my keyboard! :irked_125

My Squadron (VA-94), were issued & wore orange bags in '59-'61. Definitely for SAR visibility at sea & on land. As t*ings started *eating up in SEASIA (we were flying p*oto escort missions for our RF-8s over Laos as early as '61), orange bags died out. Wis* I *ad saved mine!

P*oto: In my tan bag w/ AWG pisscutter on X/C to visit my folks in '63.
