Hey guys, I'm extremely new to the forum but I wanted to go ahead and jump on in! I'm Ryan... better known as STS2 Stagg (Or Ggats...) I've been hovering over my Bupers Online account... just waiting for my orders to come in! Couple quick questions...

Who else got selected primary Pilot? Anyone get selected Primary Pilot and is a former Submariner?? Leme know...

Little bit about me.

I'm 23, I've been in for 4 yr 4 mo and got selected my first time up. I'm a sonar tech, senior in rate qual'd and have done (1) deployment in the "Northern Atlantic" (wink wink)

Anyone close to that description pipe up, because I have a feeling that I'm going to be a lonely bubble head among the aviation classes...

First Sonar Tech I've seen get picked up since my FY08 but you definitely won't be the only submariner at NSI.

Yeah? I'm glad to hear that... I think lol :-P Not many of us apply for it (or think we have time to) Our command tends to frown on any form of separation from the all mighty UIC.

Have they officially eliminated the "don't ask, don't tell" policy yet? You might have opened up a little too soon.

For those at NSI. I'm in the May class and I'm trying to figure out what uniforms to tailor ahead of time and bring with me. Do they issue the CNT or poly/wool khaki's? Any idea on what uniforms are actually going to be used, worn, or inspected while there? I'm going to fly to RI and obviously don't want to pack a bunch of stuff I won't be using.
Thanks.

P/W Khaki's...
We were Khaki's w/ ribbons, warfare devices, garrison cap and when it's cold we wear the Ike Jacket, when it rains the rain coat. Don't bother bringing your Pea Coat they don't issue it so even if you have it you won't use it. Mine's just taking up space in my truck in the parking lot.

Bring all the uniform items that transfer to officer uni's... You'll save money on issue day. They make you buy another sea bag and some other stuff but the other crap you don't have to buy if you still have. Bring the PTU, they'll make you have 4 total shirts, 2 LS and 2 SS shirts. So if you have any you save there. Bring your smurfs, that will be your uni for the first week and a half.

They didn't even have us by the NWU's but since you guys are closer to when they are mandated Navy wide it might be something to bring.

You can bring your laptops and cell phones... There haven't been restrictions on these since we've been here.

Other than that, make sure you're in shape. People came here that can't even pass a PFA. You have to have a good low to get out of here so atleast start working on it now.

Don't expect to leave your barracks for the first two weekends, we got liberty on the 3rd weekend but on base only. Apparently we've been doing really well so don't expect it if you guys suck.

The galley here is pretty good incase you were wondering.

Once you get your internet accounts set up I recommend emailing the whole course to yourself or barracksmates so you can study in your rooms on your comps rather than having to go to another building to do your homework

Hope that helped. Later

Q: When will I be issued orders to begin the program?
A: You will receive orders once you have submitted an acceptance letter, valid degree plan, HIV results, and been determined physically qualified by BUMED.

If that's true, I should have received them in January.

It should say:
Q: When will I be issued orders to begin the program?
A: You will receive orders at the last possible minute to ensure this is the most stressful PCS of your career.

Getting orders 30 days ago would have still been 'pushing it'. This is just crazy. I can't even secure a spot on the Rotator for my wife and dog at the end of the month, or schedule movers, vehicle shipment, housing inspections, base check out....

I hope tonight is the night.

what really sucks is i have renters for my house that wanted to move in like two weeks ago. So they patiently await my orders just like me. At least hes retired navy so he understands the concept of hurry up and wait. Has anybody bugged bupers/Ed lately?

Not disagreeing on the suckage in your case, but don't speak too soon. My worse move came AFTER commission. I (and several others) waited all spring semester to get our orders, didn't get them until mid-late June and had to report early-mid July. Yea, 2-3 weeks to move w/dependents was tough to get set up. Just saying, don't get your hopes up on things to get "better".
