Gasp, but she is going to marry the father?!?!?!?!

How horribly traditional and family oriented, freakin' knuckledragging right.....

(sarcasm implied)

I guess the media had to come up w/ something to write about!

Well, usually at some point in the campaign, the candidates get asked what they would do if their underage daughter became pregnant. Obama already was asked and said something to the effect of he wouldn't want his daughters to be punished for a mistake. So this will probably solidify her cred with the pro-life crowd. Not that she needed to, but...

The chattering classes will kick this around for a while, but I don't know what the mass of voters will think of this.

So we worship Jamie-Lynn Spears but crucify Bristol Palin? That's some bullshit. This doesn't change anything for me. I'm still voting for the duo that will be more likely to give America its nutsack back.

Then again, Cheney has a daughter who's a lesbian. Never seemed to make much difference to the party stalwarts.

Anyone else find it comical that the party wanting to take away a womyn's right to choose is making a big to do about Bristol "choosing" to have the baby?

So we worship Jamie-Lynn Spears

Who does that?

Is there a recognized church or holy trailer park you use, or is it more a personal, on your own thing?

To make the comparison more fair:
Rewind 12 years. . .what if Chelsea were preggers? Other than the obvious pondering of "who would hit THAT??", I can see the spin from the right side being considerably different than it is now. Evangelicals condemning 20th century Sodom and whatnot.

Actually, nobody seems to be making a big to-do out of this yet. There was just an AP report that I've seen so far.

There's no way for Obama-Biden '08 to make a deal out of this without looking like complete insensitive shits. I'm sure their HuffPo/Daily Kos surrogates will.

It's a whole lotta nothin, it won't mean anything to the voters. Shame that they had to use this to refute crap from a blogger though. What's the chance that the press will actually respect the daughters privacy?

That isn't quite what he said:
"When it comes specifically to HIV/AIDS, the most important prevention is education, which should include — which should include abstinence education and teaching the children — teaching children, you know, that sex is not something casual. But it should also include — it should also include other, you know, information about contraception because, look, I’ve got two daughters. 9 years old and 6 years old. I am going to teach them first of all about values and morals. But if they make a mistake [and had pre-marital sex], I don’t want them punished with a baby. I don’t want them punished with an STD at the age of 16. You know, so it doesn’t make sense to not give them information."
He wasn't asked about his kids being pregnant, but about how his administration would address HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases among young girls. His point was made towards education in contraception. Apparently Palin's daughter must have missed out on said education.

I don't think anyone is going to spin it as anything but a tough road ahead for the teenager. But whenever conservatives/the religious right talk about something as stupid as "abstinence-only" education, this plays right into it.

Christ, the Catholic church can't even get their priests to abstain from corn-holing altar boys. How can they expect your average teens, who are manifestly irresponsible, from banging each other? Perhaps a thread-split is warranted here, but people who think abstinence only sex ed is a good idea are in utter and complete denial of reality.

Just think...she may be the youngest President in our history. (If and when TBD)

Any of you fellows who have never been in a similar situation yourself -- or had kids in a similar situation -- really don't know what the fuck you are talking about ... it's all hypothetical and theoretical to you ... if it makes you feel "justified" or "better" to shoot your mouths off -- rock on.

But first I would suggest that you walk a mile in their shoes ...

Believe it.
