OCS quotes

Someone should compile a list of the greatest OCS essay topics ever. Here are my nominations:

"Why this candidate is a retard and how this candidate plans to cure his retardation"

"A 300 word history of the road guard vest"

"What this candidate is trying to do to the Staff Sergeant's beloved Marine Corps"

"Why there is no such thing as a Platoon Instructor"

"The difference between a Platoon Sergeant and a Sergeant Instructor"

"Manual of arms for scratching one's ass"

and my favorite.....

"What's so funny" As in, "heythereyoohoo, you owe me 300 words. Topic? What's so daggone funny"

Man, I almost miss Brown Field. As one other candidate so eloquently put it, it was by far the most fun I never, ever, want to have to have again.

1st increment was bad enough...but let's face it: It was nothing compared to what the 10 weekers went through, and it almost definately doesn't compare to at all PI. Speaking of which, maybe I should post this in a new thread, but anyone have any insight as to the difference between PLC and recruit training? I'm just curious to know from people who've been to both.

I never went to MCRD but have been through both juniors and seniors. Let me say this: while the 10 week program is certainly hard, seniors is no joke either. You do 100% of the evolutions that the combined class does in 60% of the time. Echo Co. is about half the size of Alpha, with platoons of 30 instead of 45. This translates into twice as much firewatch. Furthermore, you will only get 2 or 3 billets at squad leader or above, so an unfavorable eval means a lot more, esp. after week 3.

As I said, I'm not a prior but I have talked about the difference between MCRD and OCS a lot with candidates who have done both. My impression is that they are hard but in different ways. MCRD is a constant psychological struggle, with the DIs thrashing recruits pretty much straight for 13 weeks. That having been said, if you do what you're told and stay disciplined that's pretty much all there is to it. At OCS they switch to the "mentor" stage a lot sooner, and don't yell at you as much, but the responsibilites on you as a candidate are much greater, i.e., leadership billets. While PT at OCS is a lot harder than at MCRD (for example, our platoon average coming out of Seniors was 283, and my prior buddies said that coming out of the Island their platoons were averaging around 200), there's no pit or sand fleas at OCS, so that might even it out. Any priors want to weigh in on this one?

"Don't worry, there's no penalty for dropping the guide-on, no push-ups or anything...we'll just stab you through the heart with it" --Gunnery Sgt to remain unnamed in case this is incriminating..although it was hysterical to hear.

Summer '04 India 1-1st Inc

The first night of my candidate platoon seargeant billet the duty instructor came out after we hit the rack and told the platoon what was to be done by reveille, then she came over to the end of my rack and started giving me instructions:

"Candidate Platoon sergeant how do you plan on getting all this trash squared away by 05:00?"

"The fairies gunnery sergeant"

(As many of you all know we weren't supposed to be seen out of our racks after taps, so "fairies" made sure stuff was squared away by 05:00 everyday. Other platoons had ninjas, ect.)

Everyone, including the duty instructor couldn't stop laughing, so she just walked away.... thank God... it could have been bad.

SSgt Wright:

"No, louder Tiggs. I wanna see VEINS comin' out your doggone NECK. I wanna see VEINS!!!"

"When I move, you move." [candidates]: "JUST LIKE THAT!" (I guess you kind of had to be there)

"Eat that swine. You got the swine, you eat it."

"You sneaky, deceitful little candidate."

"They're gonna send you on the big libo. Or as I like to call it, the grand fizzle."

"How you living? Are you still living like an animal? Open up that wall locker, I wanna see how you're living. Is that within regs? Trash it. No, more violence."

"I wanna hear some vulgarity"

"I would rather be fresh fish in prison than live another day with you as candidate platoon sergeant."

hey moto.. I was next door over in 4th. All I ever heard after lights was SSgt Wright throwing stuff in your squadbay over and over.. then people screaming all night. He was the funniest person Ive ever heard in my life. He was non stop.

I was on LD for a couple of days after SULE 2. SSgt Wright:

"Hey Lima Deltas, anyone a TREE HUGGER HERE?!?!? Any NATURE LOVERS??? Let me tell you about racoons... a racoon will eat your dog, a racoon will take your life. Theyre evil. They like RAAAAAAGGGGGHHH (as he makes a clawing motion and snarl face)!! "

I had him for Echo Co., 1st plt, 2d increment this summer. The man was a freakin' beast.

How about this quote:

[after candidate platoon sergeant jacks something up]

"GOD DAMMIT Candidate!!! You f'in SUCK!!! I hate you!! As you were, I don't hate you. I just strongly dislike you. Yeah. I...STRONGLY...dislike you. I would rather sh*t myself in a public place than live for another day with you as candidate platoon sergeant!!"

There wasn't much better than watching him unleash on candidates from other platoons that hadn't learned to steer clear of him yet. The poor 1st platoon female candidates who always had to walk past him to get to their places in formation. It made my day hearing him scream at someone other than us. Does that make me a sicko? Or just sadistic?
