I'm hoping to make this thread into not only a religion thread, but also a politics thread. Not really, but in case it seems that way...
If you ask most people in America who their favorite candidate is for the presidental race, they will give you a name (ok, people in tune enough to know there is in fact a president of the US, and that a new one is being elected in the semi-near future).
The answer usually is somewhat like, "I like ________." Or "I think ___________ is the best choice."
Now ask them about 3 issues they agree on. Even the clever ones who can actually name three issues will usually be stumped if you ask them to really explain what the candidates position is. Yet they are damn sure which candidate they want to win.
Point? Yes, there is a relevant one for this topic, and even the military at large.
Those people are really just voting for who they like. Who seems like a good guy/gal to them. Hell, they will vote for a person they think would be fun to hang out with at the bar. Now these 90%+ people don't usually even know that is why they want their candidate to win, but study after study shows that is the real reason. (How this little thing works is a whole 'nother can of worms.)
Turns out, this is the same thing when it comes to job performance. People who the boss "likes" (no surprise) tend to get promoted....or get good fitreps. If you are a super hard worker and really good at your job, but generally believed to be a douche, you won't be rated as well as Franky, fun guy who is awesome to hang out with. It is the way of politics, private business, and the military.
Soooooooooo........I stick to my guns that being a ready room asset quite is possibly a bigger deal than having a CFII going into flight school. Not that it will probably hurt your NSS, but being a good dude won't hurt it, either. And that means drinking and getting chicks.
