Rank and becoming a USMC Pilot
I tried using the search function and couldn't find the answer to my question, so sorry if this has been discussed before. I am currently applying for OCS and I plan on attending the PLC 2nd Inc. next summer. As of right now I am applying for an air contract. I would love to fly, but at the same time, something deep down is telling me to go ground also. If I did ground, I would shoot to be at the top 10% of my TBS class and try and get Ground Intel or Infantry. So right now, I am pretty much torn right down the middle. I found myself wondering, maybe I could do one, and then once my initial contract is up I can apply for the other. I asked around and found out that if I were to earn my wings and fly first, I would be too high in rank once my contract was up to try and get Ground Intel or Infantry and hope to get out in the field. So then I thought that maybe I could go in with a ground contract, serve out my six years, and then apply for flight school. So my question is, with the rank of Captain, or whatever it would be after the initial six years, would I have a shot at still earning my wings and flying for the Corps? And would it be a reasonable and possible goal? I would like to make a career out of this and was just wondering about the possibilities of getting to enjoy the best of both worlds. Sorry for the long build up to a short question, I just wanted to make my idea clear. Thank you guys in advance for any responses or advice.
