You are really REALLY asking for trouble in your future. If you plan on being a good officer in the Navy, or just a good person in life, you better get rid of all of those thoughts and ideas of women not being allowed in certain situations, schools...whatever. i dont care what you think deep down inside or how you think everyone else feels, learn to empathize with people and realize how necessary it is that you create a society of equality. It wont be long before some female steps into your world and shows you up in every way...we're out there, and ready to outdo you ;)

I know, I get kinda heated on this stuff, but what can I say? I am a female in the Navy...gotta stand up.:icon_mi_1

I don't believe women shouldn't be allowed to go to military schools or be in the military. I will reiterate, I was playing Devil's Advocate. It was a hypothetical scenario.

And I have already had women show me up, but it took multiple women to show me up in different areas(I wonder what that says about me) ;) . Also, get off your damn soapbox about a "society of equality." Not all people are equal, and leave those ideas of rampant "equality" to the Marxists.

I am more than allowed to form a soapbox to stand my girlish figure on when you are directly putting down something I completely disagree with. And dont put words in my mouth, you know exactly what I mean by equality...Im talking about males and females getting an equal opportunity.

So can we just leave it at that?

Doubtful :(

There will be people who will tell you that equal oppurtunity for the sexes is not worth the cost (existing and potential) when it comes to the military.

Me? My opinion isn't important; I don't know shi!t. I've just seen the argument play itself out here and elsewhere a million times...

Yes, I know, or at least have been told so. The rumors that there are women here have not been confirmed as of yet. ;)

I was actually trying to play Devil's Advocate. I am sure there are others out there thinking that it would probably just be easier to get rid of the women at the Academies than to deal with all of these scandals. In fact, a few of my Brother Rats(even a few of the females:eek: ) have echoed these sentiments, that VMI was better back when they did not allow women in. Also, a number of the faculty, commandant's staff, and many of the local townsfolk feel the same way, even if they don't express it openly.

I guess I was more interested in the reaction I would get than seriously posing the booting of the womenfolk as a solution to the problem.

Any of your Brother Rats go to the school when it was all-male? If they did then I wouldn't be calling them Brother Rats quite yet if I were you, they might take offense to it since you haven't quite started yet.

Before you go any further, I actually went to a military college when it was still all male, I think I might be the only one on this site that did (any others out there, please speak up). While you may be playing devils advocate it is a bit like saying there wouldn't be as much air pollution if there were no cars. The simple fact is that what you are suggesting is not going to happen, it is a non-starter. So, don't worry about it.

Bull.

We currently have quotas in our promotion process....it's a bad thing.

You should be promoted on merit alone, not race, creed, color or sex.

But big navy so wants to be able to say that today's navy reflects society as a whole...so here we are...in all our glorious percentages.

Roger, will comply; forget I even mentioned it. I tend to stay out of those conversations anyway.

AW :) Lamp is ON and shining brightly.

Come on now....you guys are killing me here...

As someone who has seen it tried both ways, it's the truth. You may not like it, but that does not diminish its veracity.

@ Shnugg: Amen brother. Equality is a myth - in theory and in practice.

I'm cool with chicks in the Navy but they are partly responsible the feelings expressed by men in the Navy.

Examples:

Chick wants to be equal, then chick proceeds rub her gamms in the face of the guy writing mine and her evals.

"What? She got an early promote, and I got a must promote?!"

Then of course there are the pregnancies before cruise, among other things.

Dont get me wrong, there should not be an "equality" as in making equal spots for males/females or anything else. You should get where you are by fact of merit, and thats it. thenuge, Im sorry that you got passed up for a bs reason, but it goes both ways, and its never fair. No doubt, mixing the sexes in any situation increases a certain type of "pollution", but if its not one thing, its another.

Some aspects of the military are probably better staying just the way they are, whether that be all male or whatever. But like many of you have said earlier, things will happen and there is no stopping them. Better to just roll with punches...

FLYGIRL,

I can speak from recent experience, as my squadron has beed FORCIBLY INTERGRATED in the last month. I did go thru intergrated commands in the training pipeline, and before that.

If women can meet the physical standards that men can, fine. I am sick of women who can BARELY do 20 push ups and get a better PFA score than me. For weight, yeah, I can see Height-Weight being different due to certain glands being larger, but when I see a woman who is about to burst her pants because she is so fat, but she makes weight, that is BS.

As to the meeting the same physical standards, If there is a peice of equipent that is two man carry, that we need to move NOW any one who is available better damn be able to pick up their end. In this aspect, PUSHUPS and CURLUPS should be the SAME!

Need to run like heck from an impending explosion, or a crash site before AliBaba & co come? Better be able to run as fast as me (not very) because I AM NOT CARRYING YOU. I can WALK and pass the Female PFA standard for my age bracket.

Women need to realize, this is a male dominated field. Wanna come and play with the boys, be ready to get yelled at, and play by our rules. Sexual harrasment is WRONG, however, not being able to do you job correctly (in my case, instruct new fleet pilots) by having to walk on eggshells is WRONG as well.

FG, not to bust your tail, but have you been in the fleet? You MAY be one of the women, like 2 of the 3 female pilots we have who can BEAT me in PT, and tell dirtier jokes than we do. You may be like the one that cried last night when I told her I have no comprehension how she got her wings, because she let go of the static wicks before turning downwind. (as in, she was WAY behind the aircraft).

For her crying, she gets to fly with me 3 days next week. She has used her silver bullet with me (everyone can have a bad day, I'm not that much of a jerk). She needs to fly like a competent co-pilot (that is what the RAG is supposed to turn out) or she will have a RUDE awakening of my dislike of flying with 2Ps with NAFOD.

Amen, great post. The ultimate tragedy, and reason why I believe women will NEVER be able to fully integrate is this: Your MK 1 Mod 0 female aviator can be one of the guys, cool as beans, until the one day when you look at her wrong, or she gets a wild hair up her ass, then BAM! She whips out the sexual harassment/hostile work environment trump card and everything comes to a screeching halt. I don't care if it's wrong or right, justified or otherwise. No single person should have that kind of power in a military environment and until that changes, women are ALWAYS going to be treated with kid gloves by members of her command as well as Big Navy and THAT is not right. So, if you women want to fight for equality, fight against THAT.

Brett

Sounds like you have something bothering you Brett, you want to talk about it? Hard feelings perhaps? I think you need to come to peace with your anger, embrace those that were your foes. Love them. :D ;)

You're right. I agree completely. I work my a** off to be in great shape and cant stand the same things that you have said above. In fact, I would almost say that it is more mentally draining on a female who is in good shape, does well on her PRT (whether you are looking at the male of female standards) and has to sit and watch the other 3/4 of the females in her battalion or whatever be overweight, not be able to run, do these wimpy puchups and then, AND THEN, complain about the standards being too high. Believe me, I hate it just as much as you.

Its okay, bust my tail, I have no fleet experience, but I have a pretty good idea of what I am getting into. And maybe I will be one of the 2 or 3 girls that can "keep up" with the guys. I would like to think so...I dont forsee myself being that girl that runs away crying nor do I plan on shocking anyone when I get my wings or whatever it is at the time. Never have been and never will be.

I'm not sure that saying any of this will make any difference what-so-ever in any of your minds, so just know this, I am not a pu**y little girl expecting to get by in the military because I dont have a third leg...Im ready to play and give you all a run for your money. Cant wait!;)
