1,001 questions about the ASTB (post your scores & ask your questions here!)

Can anyone who has taken the astb before tell me if the UAV section looks similar to the one on the ASTB prep app? I'm worried about drilling it on the app then the actual one is going to look completely different. Are the flashcards a better option?

Yep!

TBAS Study Pro on Steam also has a virtually identical copy

Great First attempt meets ISEL numbers for SNFO but if you want SNA ISEL numbers then yes, a retake would be needed. From what has been posted your scores are still in the competitive range!
Any idea what I need to do to come up to 7s? I’m wondering if it’s primarily an OAR issue since I only scored a 51.

I am not the best to answer this because I have my final attempt in two weeks and you scored much higher than me. However, from what's posted OAR is typically weighed on heavily by the math and reading. FOFAR is a combo of your Math and PBM from what I remember. I could be wrong but if you search the forum, it shouldn't be too hard to find!

Judging by your high PFAR, improving your OAR is probably the path of least resistance though it's hard to say exactly. The scoring methodology for the ASTB isn't public and only you have a sense of how you did on each subsection. How do you feel you did on the math section (how many questions, how long did it take, their difficulty, etc)? That's usually the easiest test to both indicate how you did and to improve on.

I’m really not sure how I did. Two questions I definitely didn’t know, but I never saw the crazy stuff like logs and matrix multiplying. It was only about 15 questions and I know I had more time. I’m really thinking that was my major shortcoming. Thanks fellas

I am in the same boat somewhat. I went to my eye doctor and they measured my hyperopia to be a +3.00 which is right at the limit for SNA. Im at a bit of a crossroad because I do not want to risk getting through meps, selection, OCS, etc. and then getting dqed in pennsicola because of it. I risk having to switch designations and serving 4 years in a different job at that point. Debating on if going the corrective eye surgery route (Lasik) is the better option or not worrying about it and hoping NAMI would come up with the same measurment as my primary eye docotr and pass me. Andy advice?
Hi! Little late to this convo but wanted to respond because I wish I knew before I went. Whatever your vision is at a regular civilian optometrist will not be the same at NAMI! The regular optometrist had me at 20/20 in my right eye, 20/25 in my left eye, 20/20 overall. I don’t remember the number for my astigmatism but it was very minor. They don’t use a typical eye chart test at NAMI. When I went they had my vision at 20/40( the limit for uncorrected) and my astigmatism was double out of the standard max which I believe is 1.00 diopters. So I was majorly out of standards without even knowing it.

Was this the optometrist in question?

On a serious note, sorry to hear that, hope everything turned out ok in the end. Did your civilian optometrist just forget to dilate your eyes or something?
