Local recruiter told me his biggest problem is finding kids that can pass the asvab.

NIFE stud I talked to said that one of new OHARP duties (or TDY while you're on it) is going to Great Lakes and teaching basic reading/writing and math.

Some recruits are coming to basic unable to do what sounded like 2nd or 3rd grade reading comprehension and math. They push anyone who failed those portions of the ASVAB through a week of indoc and then send them to the class for 2 weeks and they re-test. A second (maybe third cycle IIRC) until the pass. After 3 cycles if they can't pass they're gone.

Good number of Ensigns or 2nd LTs walking around NASC with nothing but a NAM on their uniforms for teaching boots how to read and count for 8-10 weeks.

That's standard NETC guidance for all training.

Definitely a good thing, guessing news like this might be part of the reason
Unemployment among people under 25 has skyrocketed to roughly 25%.

The military opened the flood gates by being more generous with psychiatric waivers.

*Samuel L Jackson voice* the amount of moms who want their children to have a mental illness so they will be considered special is too damned high.

Pretty simplistic and lazy argument for what has often been better diagnosis and treatment of a variety things in the last 20 or so years. Yes, I am aware there has been some abuse of the system but it doesn't invalidate the numerous folks who've benefited. I'm glad the military is making some strides in recognizing that reality.

There is not working due choice or due to no jobs open. There are plenty of jobs available around me that are not being filled. I am seeing as a recruiter many people who believe as a college graduate with no experience they should be making at least 100K no matter what the roles. I and other recruiters I know have roles with very few applicants that don't require a college degree. The exception to what I have said would be IT or anything computer related.

1 in 5 ADHD diagnosis are false positives.

That is an astoundingly poor rate for medicine.

It absolutely is a real thing that Karen brings precious Breighden to the psychiatrist the moment he gets in trouble in school or anything less than an A. And since kids are hyper (because they are kids) and there's a semi-corrupt symbiotic relationship between pharmaceutical companies and doctors,* doc is more than happy to write a prescription.

The boy who cried wolf side effect is it is now exceptionally difficult for kids to get extra educational services when they actually need it because it requires navigating a bunch of red tape and independent verification.

Having a sign for hire is only part of the story.

So you're a 19 year old college student and see a help wanted sign on Walmart. You want to work evenings and weekends, but they're hiring a part time role for Tues through Thurs 7-1200.

As for full time roles that have career growth potential, please point me to the copious amount of Indeed.com ads asking for 18-24 year old workers with a high school diploma and no job experience, because I don't see them.

The good news is, these roles are plentiful. They pay well too.

The bad news is, they’re for welders, plumbers, electricians, roofers, stonemasons, auto mechanics, etc. and very few 18-24 year olds want to do that work (and/or aren’t mentally suited for it after majoring in “The Dystopian Patriarchy and its Effect on Climate Change”).
